Geese Make ‘SNL’ Debut With Performances of ‘Au Pays du Cocaine’ and ‘Trinidad’: Watch

Geese Bring Haunting Soundscapes to 'SNL' Debut

In a surprise move, the Brooklyn-based indie rock band Geese made their live television debut on Saturday Night Live (SNL), bringing with them a moody and introspective sound that left viewers spellbound.

The band took over Studio 8H, performing two songs from their acclaimed third album, Getting Killed. The late-night sketch comedy show was hosted by One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor, who has received critical acclaim for her performances in films such as Escape Room, which earned her a Grammy nomination.

For their first performance, Geese delivered a haunting rendition of "Au Pays du Cocaine" ("In the Land of Cocaine"), followed by a moody take on "Trinidad." The indie rock outfit was joined on stage by touring keyboardist Sam Revaz, who added to the atmospheric soundscapes.

The band's lead vocalist, Cameron Winter, reflected on the creation of Getting Killed in an interview with Rolling Stone, stating that the album's process was "a waking nightmare" until its completion. Guitarist Emily Green echoed these sentiments, noting that the album felt like a "brute-force effort" to reach its final form.

Geese are currently touring worldwide, with upcoming performances in Honolulu and major festivals such as Coachella, Governors Ball, and Bonnaroo. Last week's episode of SNL was hosted by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, while next week's episode will feature actor Alexander Skarsgård as host and Cardi B as the musical guest.

The way these indie rockers just kinda swooped in and stole the show is wild. I mean, who would have thought that a Brooklyn-based band like Geese would be the ones to bring all that moody energy to Saturday Night Live? It's like they were meant for it. The whole vibe of their performance was so atmospheric, you could practically feel the weight of those songwriting struggles they talked about in an interview. Like, Cameron Winter saying it was a "waking nightmare" until they finally finished the album... talk about relatable.

And can we talk about how great it is that Geese brought Sam Revaz on stage? That extra keyboardist added so much depth to their soundscapes. I mean, those songs were already haunting enough without it, but now they're just downright eerie. And what's crazy is that this is all happening right after Teyana Taylor hosted SNL last week. It's like the show is just on fire or something.

I'm definitely going to have to check out their album Getting Killed now. I mean, if a band can take an entire process and turn it into music that's as raw and emotional as Geese's performance... then we're in for a treat.

I don't know what's going on with this whole indie rock resurgence 🤔. I mean, Geese are talented and all, but is it really necessary to get them playing on SNL? I'd rather watch some new comedy sketches than listen to a bunch of moody music 😴. Don't get me wrong, their soundscapes are pretty captivating, but can't we just stick with the good ol' variety show format? 📺 And what's up with all these bands being compared to each other like they're on some sort of musical competition 🏆. Just let them do their thing and don't try to make a fuss about it 💁‍♀️.
