Geese Bring Haunting Soundscapes to 'SNL' Debut
In a surprise move, the Brooklyn-based indie rock band Geese made their live television debut on Saturday Night Live (SNL), bringing with them a moody and introspective sound that left viewers spellbound.
The band took over Studio 8H, performing two songs from their acclaimed third album, Getting Killed. The late-night sketch comedy show was hosted by One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor, who has received critical acclaim for her performances in films such as Escape Room, which earned her a Grammy nomination.
For their first performance, Geese delivered a haunting rendition of "Au Pays du Cocaine" ("In the Land of Cocaine"), followed by a moody take on "Trinidad." The indie rock outfit was joined on stage by touring keyboardist Sam Revaz, who added to the atmospheric soundscapes.
The band's lead vocalist, Cameron Winter, reflected on the creation of Getting Killed in an interview with Rolling Stone, stating that the album's process was "a waking nightmare" until its completion. Guitarist Emily Green echoed these sentiments, noting that the album felt like a "brute-force effort" to reach its final form.
Geese are currently touring worldwide, with upcoming performances in Honolulu and major festivals such as Coachella, Governors Ball, and Bonnaroo. Last week's episode of SNL was hosted by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, while next week's episode will feature actor Alexander Skarsgård as host and Cardi B as the musical guest.
