the vatican thinks they're so cool with removing giorgia meloni's face from that church mural, but honestly its just another example of how sensitive they are meanwhile, we have tons of italian churches with portraits of powerful nobles and politicians who were basically trying to buy their way into heaven lol the lines between art and politics are super blurry, and i'm not sure which side im on, but i do think its crazy that people are so quick to judge valentinetti's work as "tacky" or whatever when we've got all these other artworks in churches that are straight up propaganda for powerful people. plus, its interesting how the vatican is always trying to play the victim card when they're actually just trying to silence people who dont fit their narrative
I don't know man... it feels like we're just going through this whole thing over again. I mean, remember when they took down that mural of Thatcher back in the day? Same vibe, right? It's all about who gets to decide what's art and what's not. I get why people wanted Meloni's face off the wall, but come on... it's just a painting! The Vatican's trying to be all high and mighty, but at the end of the day, they're just as guilty of hypocrisy as everyone else. I mean, have you seen some of those old Italian churches? They're like palaces in there... filled with portraits of nobles and politicians... it's wild. The whole thing just feels like a big mess to me... art vs politics, who cares? Can't we just get along?
omg this is so complicated i mean i get why some ppl were upset about giorgia meloni's face being on that mural, but shouldn't we just leave art alone ? like isnt it supposed to be a reflection of the artist's vision and not what others think is cool? anyway, gotta say tho, alot of italian churches have those same kinda portraits of rich ppl, so like, hypocrisy much?
