A San Jose resident, Allison Fluty, has stepped in to help save a stray cat shot with a crossbow in the city's neighborhood. The feline victim, nicknamed "Huerro," was found by Fluty's mother on Friday night and needed immediate veterinary attention.
Fluty took Huerro to an emergency vet, where a 6-inch crossbow bolt that pierced the base of his tail was removed. She paid for $1,600 worth of treatment out-of-pocket and even created a GoFundMe page to help other stray cats in need. Fluty hopes to raise funds to spay or neuter more cats in the neighborhood.
Fluty's efforts to care for Huerro have not only saved his life but also inspired her to take further action against animal cruelty. "It's just another reason why I want to get more of the cats fixed in this neighborhood... cause like, I don't want there to be more victims of that kind of targeted violence against animals," Fluty said.
A crossbow bolt similar to the one used on Huerro was also found at a local resident's backyard, sparking concerns about animal safety in the area.
