Greatwood Hurdle: Joe Tizzard hails 'proper performance' from Alexei at Cheltenham

Joe Tizzard hailed Alexei's 'proper performance' at Cheltenham as the German-bred gelding announced himself as a real prospect with a dominant victory in the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle. The 100-30 favourite, ridden by Brendan Powell, showed plenty of ability to work his way through the field and hit the front up the hill before powering clear after the last for an emphatic six-length triumph.

Tizzard praised the horse's performance, saying it was a step up from his recent Ascot handicap win. "To go away like he did after the last, it was a proper performance," the trainer stated. The horse's form has been impressive of late, with Alexei winning at Chepstow and finishing second in the Welsh Champion Hurdle.

Tizzard noted that the ground played no role in the horse's success, saying "The ground was my only concern, but it didn't hinder him at all." He also mentioned that Alexei won over two-mile-three in his maiden last year, making a fast-run two miles ideal for him. With such form, Tizzard is hopeful for the future of his talented young hurdler.

Garth Broom, one half of Alexei's owners, was equally impressed with the horse's performance. "He was more impressive there than he was at Ascot," he said. The pair has done well together so far, and their latest success may be a step towards bigger things for the horse in the future.

In other news from Cheltenham, Dan Skelton's Soldier Reeves won the mallardjewellers.com Maiden Hurdle with ease, while Anthony Honeyball's Kdeux Saint Fray impressed with a strong run in the Bottlegreen Novices' Limited Handicap Chase. The Tizzard team also enjoyed success in the Hine Solicitors Talking Sense Handicap Chase with Triple Trade, who took the prize by a neck over Torneo.

The day concluded with Tom Cooper's Saint Clovis taking out the Three Counties Christmas Open National Hunt Flat Race, a 12-1 shot who won by four and three quarter lengths.

man i'm not surprised alexei killed it at cheltenham his form has been on point lately ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ† but 100-30 fav seems a bit generous to me Brendan powell rode him like he was born to win, but that's what you get when the horse is that good ๐Ÿ˜Š. joe tizzard's comments about the ground not being an issue are interesting tho, i mean if it didn't hinder alexei at all then that's a testament to his quality ๐Ÿ’ช. can't wait to see what he does next, maybe a grand national tilt? ๐Ÿค”

โญ๏ธ Alexei's win at Cheltenham was pretty impressive! I mean, that horse just took it to the next level ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’จ. The fact that he handled the ground like it didn't even matter is just a testament to his skill & training. ๐Ÿ‘ Tizzard seems like a decent trainer too, and with Alexei's form being so strong lately, I think they've got some serious prospects for the future ๐Ÿ’ช.

omg I'm so stoked for Alexei ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’ช! 100-30 fav and he still manages to crush it ๐Ÿคฏ! that 'proper performance' from Tizzard is so true...he really did show off his skills on the track ๐Ÿ˜Ž. i love how Tizzard said the ground didn't even affect him - that's so impressive for a horse with form like his! ๐Ÿ’ช And I'm loving Garth Broom's vibes too...they clearly have a great partnership going on ๐Ÿค. can't wait to see what Alexei does next, fingers crossed he keeps on winning! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿ”ฅ just watched some epic horse racing at Cheltenham! ๐Ÿด I'm not really into sports, but that Alexei horse is straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ! His trainer Tizzard is all about praising the horse's performance, saying he was a step up from his last win... and it shows! ๐Ÿ˜Ž The horse is like, totally dominating the competition, and I'm loving it ๐Ÿ’ช. The ground didn't even seem to bother him, which is just wild ๐ŸŒณ. Can't wait to see what this talented young hurdler does next... maybe a few more wins on his horizon? ๐Ÿ†

I'm loving the dominance of Alexei at Cheltenham ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’ฅ! His performance was super impressive, especially considering he was up against some tough competition. I think it's great to see Tizzard praising his horse for a "proper performance" - that's music to any racing fan's ears ๐Ÿ˜Š. The fact that the ground didn't hinder Alexei at all is also a testament to his ability and athleticism. And let's not forget, this win puts him firmly in contention for bigger things down the line! With his impressive form and talent, I'm definitely keeping an eye on Alexei as he continues to make waves in the racing world ๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm not buying it... ๐Ÿค” Alexei just got lucky and rode the field, I mean, anyone can beat 100-30 favourite if they get to the front at the right time. He's been on a hot streak but it's not like he didn't have a good jockey in Brendan Powell... ๐Ÿ‡๏ธ The fact that Tizzard is already talking about bigger things for him just shows how much pressure he's under to deliver more wins. I'm sure his owners, Garth and Broom, are counting their profits from the win ๐Ÿค‘

man i dont know how some horses can just dominate like that ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ˜ฒ alexei seemed so calm up the hill but then just takes off like a shot! and its cool that joe tizzard says he's only getting better, makes me wanna cheer for him ๐Ÿ‘

idk about tizzard saying alexei did a "proper performance"... didn't he say that after his ascot win too? and wasn't it a bit of a lucky run for the horse at cheltenham considering the ground wasnt ideal? but i guess 6-length wins are nice and all ๐Ÿค‘

Alexei is defo gonna be a top dog in the jumping scene now ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป! I mean, he just dominated that handicap hurdle like it was nothing, and Tizzard's praise is well-deserved ๐Ÿ™Œ. The guy's form has been insane lately, and to see him excel on different ground isn't a bad sign for his future prospects โ›ˆ๏ธ. And the fact that he won over 2m3 in his maiden last year just shows how versatile he is ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm loving the positivity around this horse at the moment ๐Ÿ’ซ, and I think we're gonna see a lot more of him in the top tier of hurdling ๐Ÿ“ˆ!

OMG did u see that 3rd race where Alexei won? ๐Ÿคฉ i'm like super excited for him! his trainer Joe Tizzard seems really happy with the result ๐Ÿ™Œ but what's up with all these horse names lol? is it a thing? ๐Ÿด Alexei sounds kinda cool, maybe i'll look into it more later ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿด Just watched that Cheltenham racing thingy... Alexei is on fire! ๐Ÿš€ Tizzard seems like a top trainer, his horse's form is crazy! ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, it's not just about the win, but how they won - dominating performance, no surprises. Brendan Powell rode him like a pro! ๐Ÿ‘ Ground didn't even affect them, and Alexei's record speaks for itself... two-mile-three maiden last year, and now he's taking on the best ๐Ÿคฏ Hope to see more of this horse in the future! ๐Ÿ“†

just watched this Cheltenham racing highlights ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ˜ฎ, can't believe Alexei just took his win to another level! I mean, he was already showing some awesome form, but that victory in the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle? Wow! Tizzard seems genuinely stoked with how his horse performed - and honestly, who wouldn't be? ๐Ÿคฉ it's like Alexei just knows what he's doing on the track. also love the way Garth Broom said he was more impressive at Cheltenham than at Ascot... that's some high praise right there ๐Ÿ˜Š

omg i'm so hyped for alexei!! ๐Ÿคฉ he's literally on fire right now! his performance at cheltenham was amazing, especially considering it was his first major win of the season. joe tizzard said it was a step up from his ascot handicap win and boy does it show! ๐Ÿ‘ also can't believe the ground didn't even bother him ๐ŸŒฟ that's just proof he's a top-notch horse! and i love how garth broom thinks this win might be a stepping stone to bigger things for alexei - here's to more wins, fam! ๐Ÿ’ช

Omg, I'm loving Alexei's form right now ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ”ฅ! He's like, totally on fire, and Joe Tizzard is doing an amazing job with him.
