Hear Death Metal Pioneer's Surprising Long-Lost Madonna Cover

Death Metal Pioneer's Bizarre Madonna Cover Uncovered After Years of Obscurity

Chuck Shuldiner, the late frontman of Death, recorded an instrumental version of Madonna's 1998 hit 'Frozen' when battling cancer in 1998. The track was previously unknown to the public and has now resurfaced after Schuldiner's nephew discovered a long-lost CD-R copy in his car stereo.

The surprising recording features Shuldiner playing Middle Eastern-influenced guitar parts over a drum machine, resulting in a haunting and understated sound that is worlds apart from his usual aggressive death metal style. The song has been shared on social media, with Schuldiner's nephew revealing he found the track while going through some personal belongings.

Schuldiner was a pioneer of thrash metal, coining the term 'guttural growling' in Death's 1987 debut album 'Scream Bloody Gore'. His band went on to achieve significant success, including their 1991 album 'Human', which ranked 70th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.

Sadly, Schuldiner passed away at age 34 due to complications from brain cancer in 2001. A new authorized biography about his life and music is set to be released this month.

just imagine chuck shuldiner doing something like that... i mean, death metal pioneer all over the place but chillin out with madonna's 'frozen' it's kinda cool but also super weird... who knew he had a soft spot for middle eastern guitar parts? ๐Ÿคฏ๐ŸŽธ i'm not sure if this is some crazy fan edit or if shuldiner actually just wanted to experiment with something different during his cancer battle anyway, its wild that people have been missing out on this for years... ๐Ÿ‘€

This is wild ๐Ÿคฏ, I mean I'm glad we're seeing more of Chuck Shuldiner's lesser-known stuff, but an instrumental cover of Madonna's 'Frozen' is just...different ๐Ÿ˜‚. I can see how it would've been a way for him to express himself in a different way when he was going through a tough time, but it's not exactly what you'd expect from the frontman of Death ๐Ÿค˜.

I'm curious to hear more about his creative process during that time, though. Was this something he worked on before or after being diagnosed with cancer? And how did the rest of Death react to this project? I guess it just goes to show how talented and versatile Chuck was as a musician, even if this one track doesn't quite fit into his usual style ๐ŸŽธ.

It's also interesting that Schuldiner's nephew found this recording in his car stereo - what was going through his mind when he stumbled upon it all these years later? I hope the new biography sheds more light on Chuck's life and music, including this unique cover song ๐Ÿ“š.
