Horror game Horses has been banned from sale – but is it as controversial as you'd think?

"Horses" Banned from Steam: Controversy Surrounds Award-Winning Horror Game

In a shocking turn of events, award-winning Italian developer Santa Ragione's latest project, "Horses," has been banned from sale on Steam, the largest digital store for PC games. The ban was announced just over a week ago, and other popular storefronts such as the Epic Games Store also pulled the game from their shelves, citing concerns over its content.

The controversy surrounding "Horses" centers around its graphic and disturbing themes, including scenes of physical violence, psychological abuse, gory imagery, and depiction of slavery. However, some argue that the game's approach to these topics is too simplistic and crude, failing to provide a genuine sense of shock or unease.

Gameplay-wise, "Horses" presents a bleak and unsettling experience, with players tasked with performing mundane chores in a nightmarish environment. The game's visuals are stark and unflinching, with characters rendered in a style that is both realistic and unnerving. While the sound design is minimal, with only the occasional hum of a camera or water pouring into a glass breaking the silence, this actually adds to the overall sense of unease.

But what sets "Horses" apart from other horror games is its ability to elicit discomfort without resorting to explicit gore or violence. The game's central theme – the exploration of power dynamics and human psychology – is presented in a way that is both thought-provoking and unsettling, but ultimately fails to spark any real outrage.

The decision to ban "Horses" from Steam has sparked debate among gamers and developers alike, with some arguing that it is an example of censorship gone too far. Others point out that the game's content may be disturbing, but it does not necessarily meet the criteria for what constitutes "hateful or abusive" content under the Epic Games Store's guidelines.

Ultimately, the controversy surrounding "Horses" serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between artistic expression and social responsibility in the world of video games. While some may argue that the game's approach to its themes is too simplistic or crude, others see it as a bold and thought-provoking commentary on human nature.

As for the future of "Horses," only time will tell if the game will be reinstated on Steam or other digital storefronts. One thing is certain, however: the conversation sparked by this game's release will continue to simmer, with gamers and developers alike debating the finer points of artistic expression and social responsibility in the world of video games.

I'm kinda disappointed about this 🤔. As a gamer, I think it's awesome when devs take risks and push boundaries with their content. "Horses" seems like an ambitious project that's trying to say something deeper than just slaying monsters or collecting loot. The whole point of horror games is to make you feel uneasy and uncomfortable, right? 🕷️ I get why some people might find the themes disturbing, but censorship just feels like a weak way to keep people from talking about it. What's next? Banning games that tackle tough issues? It's a slippery slope, man... 😬

idk why ppl are so salty about horses being banned from steam 🤷‍♂️ it's not like its a kiddies game or anything... the themes are dark but at least its trying to spark some real conversation about power dynamics & human psychology rather than just relying on cheap gore & jump scares 🎮 games r supposed to challenge ur mind & make u uncomfortable, right? 😏

omg like what's going on with this new game horses 🤯 i mean i know it sounds creepy but i'm kinda curious about it now is it really that bad or is it just getting all the attention because of its banned status? i don't get why they can't just make games that are a little uncomfortable you know like, life is uncomfortable sometimes 😂 and what's with the whole power dynamics thing does anyone actually understand what that means in the context of the game or am i just reading too much into it 🤔

Ugh man, can't even play a new horror game on Steam anymore 🤯. I mean, I guess some people are gonna freak out over gory stuff but what's wrong with that? It's just a game, not real life. And now it's banned from Epic Games Store too... great. Now we gotta get our games from other places or deal with resale prices on the dark web 🤑. Just another day, right? 😒

the whole thing feels like a big overreaction to me 🤔 i mean, people love complaining about "hateful" or "disturbing" content on games these days, but this just seems like another example of people being too sensitive 😳 the game's trying to tackle some heavy themes and it's not for everyone, but that doesn't mean it deserves a ban ⚠️ what's next? are we gonna start banning books or movies because they might make someone uncomfortable 📚🎥

I just got back from the most random trip to the countryside and saw these adorable cows grazing in a field 🐮😊 I was thinking about how their lives are so peaceful and serene, and it made me wonder if we could learn something from them about appreciating the simple things in life. Have you ever seen those cows just chillin' in a field all day? It's like they're on some kind of hippie retreat 🌿😴

I gotta say, banning a horror game like "Horses" from Steam just seems weird 🤔. I get that it might be disturbing for some people, but shouldn't they have the choice to play or not? It's like, if you're gonna make a game that's super intense and unsettling, can't you just warn people ahead of time? Like, a warning label or something? 😂 And what's with the whole "hateful or abusive" content thing? Is it really that easy to define? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, some games have way more gore and violence than this one, but nobody bats an eye. It just seems like censorship to me 🚫

come on guys 🤣 the ban is like overreacting tbh. its not like the game is promoting violence or slavery lol. its just a weird and disturbing experience that makes you feel uncomfortable. what's wrong with being uncomfortable? its all about pushing boundaries and making people think. and btw, epic games store is just trying to be a buzzkill 😒

I'm kinda bummed that "Horses" got banned from Steam 🤕. I mean, I get why some people might find it disturbing, but at the same time, I think it's dope that a game is willing to tackle some heavy themes like power dynamics and psychological abuse. It's not always easy to make games that are both thought-provoking and uncomfortable, but if that's what "Horses" is trying to do, then props to 'em for being bold.

I also gotta say, I love how the game's visuals and sound design come together to create this unsettling atmosphere 🎥🔊. It's like they're tapping into some deep-seated anxiety or something, and that's pretty cool. Of course, not everyone will appreciate it, but hey, being a good game is about sparking a conversation, right?

I'm kinda curious to see how the developers respond to all this backlash 🤔. Did they go in with the intention of making a "hateful" or "abusive" game, or were they just trying to make something different? Either way, I think it's awesome that we're having this discussion about what constitutes good (or bad) content in games.

Anyway, I'm still gonna play "Horses" when it comes out on other platforms 🎮. Can't wait to see how the game holds up and whether or not it'll continue to spark some interesting conversations 💬.

I'm still trying to figure out what all the fuss is about 😒. I mean, it sounds like a super unsettling game that's just kinda...meh? I get that some people might find it disturbing or triggering, but I don't think that's enough reason to ban it outright 🤷‍♂️. I've played games with way more explicit content and they didn't get pulled from shelves. This feels like a case of overreacting if you ask me 👀. Still, can't deny that the game does sound kinda interesting in a weird way 😎. Maybe I'll give it a try when (or if) it comes back to Steam 🤞

I don't trust any of these platforms to make decisions like this... I mean, what's next? Banning music that's just too intense or art that's too thought-provoking? 🤯 Steam's always been about "protecting" us from ourselves, but sometimes it feels like they're just giving in to the mob. I bet some indie dev just got a nasty DM and now everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon. 🤑 Anyway, at least the game itself sounds kinda interesting... not too sure if I'd wanna play something that's gonna make me feel uneasy for no reason 😒.

idk why ppl are so up in arms over "Horses" lol 🤣 its just a game, its not like it's tryna be funny or somethin. dont get me wrong, some scenes r pretty graphic, but im all about explorein the darker side of human nature, you feel? its like, we cant even talk about this stuff in real life without gettin judged or somethin, so why should a game be any diffrent? i mean, its not like santa ragione is tryna glorify slavery or racism or anything, its just a commentary on the messed up ways ppl interact with each other 🤔 anywayz, id rather play a game that makes me uncomfortable than some watered down trash.

idk why people are making a big deal about this game lol its just horror game 😂 i mean its not like it has explicit gore or anything. its more about psychological stuff which can be kinda uncomfortable to watch but still it's not like it's promoting anything bad 🤷‍♂️ the devs did say they're gonna release it on other platforms tho so fingers crossed we get to play it eventually 😊

I'm not surprised they banned the game from Steam 🤔. I mean, the themes are pretty dark, but I think it's a bit overboard to pull it from all platforms just yet 😐. I've played some of the gameplay vids and it looks like it could be really unsettling, but at the same time, I think that's what makes horror games so good - they can be uncomfortable to watch 🎃. The game's trying to tackle some heavy stuff, but I'm not convinced it's going too far into explicit gore or anything like that 😐. Still, I get why people might find it disturbing and I respect the Epic Games Store for having guidelines in place 💯. Maybe we'll see a re-release on Steam later down the line? 🤞

🤣 come on, it's just a game, right? 🎮 I mean, I've seen more disturbing stuff on a Sunday morning after a few too many red wines. Can't we all just chill and play some "Horses" without getting our knickers in a twist? 😂 The ban is like, totally overreacting, you know? I'd rather play a game that makes me uncomfortable than one that's just gonna sit there and be boring. But hey, if it's too much for Steam, maybe they can just give it a "Mature" rating or something 🤷‍♂️

I'm low-key kinda bummed about "Horses" getting banned from Steam 🤔. I mean, as a wellness enthusiast, I'm all about exploring complex topics like power dynamics and human psychology – and if that's what Santa Ragione is trying to do with this game, then I think it's worth having the conversation. The whole thing feels kinda...uncomfortable? Like, you can't help but feel uneasy while playing it 😬? That's what makes me think it's actually saying something deeper about our human condition. But at the same time, I get why some people might find it disturbing – it's not exactly a fluffy, feel-good experience 🌪️. What really gets me is how we're always debating what constitutes "hateful or abusive" content... isn't that just kind of subjective? Can't we just have more nuanced conversations about these topics instead of trying to censor everything? 💭

I'm not surprised they banned "Horses" 🤔... I mean, it's a pretty intense game that pushes boundaries. The whole thing about censorship feels like a slippery slope to me 😳... what's next? Games that challenge our assumptions about power and human psychology? That's the kind of stuff that can spark real conversations and growth 💡. The fact that some people are already debating whether it's "hateful or abusive" content just shows how far we've come in acknowledging the complexities of human nature 🌎. I'm rooting for the game, even if it means being an outlier in my circle 👍... can't wait to see what happens next!

Wow 🤯 This game sounds super intense and uncomfortable to play 😳 I'm not sure if banning it from Steam was a good idea or not 🤔 Maybe they should have just put a warning label on it like that's what's supposed to happen when you're dealing with mature themes 💀
