ICE agents seen making arrests near Jersey City–Hoboken border, officials and witnesses say

Federal Immigration Agents Arrest Multiple People at Hoboken-Jersey City Border, Local Officials Alarmed.

A chilling scene unfolded near the Jersey City-Hoboken border on Sunday morning, as eyewitnesses reported seeing federal immigration agents making arrests without warning. The detentions sparked widespread concern among officials in both cities, particularly within immigrant communities. New Jersey local elected officials, including Councilmember Jake Ephros and Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour, are sounding the alarm, denouncing what they described as "disturbing" and "unsettling" actions by ICE agents.

Eyewitnesses claim that Ephros witnessed at least two people being taken into custody near the 9th Street Light Rail Station. He recorded videos of the incident, which show officers in masks handcuffing individuals and then driving away in unmarked vehicles. In one chilling exchange, an officer is heard telling Ephros that they don't need a warrant to conduct their "job."

Meanwhile, Hoboken Mayor Jabbour confirmed that her office had received reports of federal immigration enforcement activity in the area, but she remained tight-lipped about the scope of the operation. She urged residents to know their rights, emphasizing that they have the right to remain silent, a lawyer, and should not sign anything they do not understand.

Jersey City Mayor James Solomon echoed similar sentiments, condemning what he described as "frightening" and "disturbing" videos showing ICE agents detaining people without warning. He reiterated that local police are barred from aiding ICE without a judge's warrant and that city property may not be used for immigration operations.

The incident has raised concerns about the actions of federal immigration authorities and their impact on immigrant communities. It comes amid heightened scrutiny of immigration enforcement tactics nationwide, with New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposing banning local police partnerships with ICE in her state. The Department of Homeland Security has thus far refused to comment on the matter.

man this is getting super scary 🤕 i mean whats next they gonna start rounding up people at shopping malls or something? like what even is the criteria for who gets arrested by these agents? do they just look at your name or something? its all so super ambiguous and i dont trust it one bit 🙅‍♂️

i think its crazy that they are doing this without a warrant or anything, its like they think they can just make people disappear or something. and what about the videos of people being handcuffed in masks, thats basically torture 🚫

we need to be talking about this more, as a society we need to know what our rights are when it comes to immigration enforcement and how to protect ourselves. its not fair that these agents can just come out of nowhere and start taking people away without any warning or due process.

the fact that local officials are speaking out against this is huge, i mean they cant just sit back and watch their community get torn apart by these ICE agents. we need to support them and stand up for what is right here

I'm really worried about these recent detentions at the Hoboken-Jersey City border 🤕💔. I mean, people just getting taken away by ICE agents without even knowing what's going on? It's so scary and unsettling 😱. As a community, we gotta look out for each other, you know? These actions by ICE are not only violating people's rights but also causing such fear and uncertainty 🤯. I'm all about supporting local officials like Councilmember Jake Ephros and Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour who are speaking out against this stuff 🙌. We need to make sure our voices are heard and that we're advocating for a safer, more welcoming community for everyone 🌎💖.

🤝 ICE agents just do what they feel is their job, but does that have to mean hurting people's lives? 🚫 I'm not saying we should let anyone break the law, but arrests without warning? That doesn't sit right with me... 😟

omg this is insane 🤯 like what even is going on here?! they're basically just walking around making arrests without warning and no one's saying anything about it? it's so unsettling to think that you could be just chillin at a light rail station and then ICE comes out of nowhere and takes you away. i feel so bad for the people who got detained, they must be living in constant fear of being arrested and deported. and what's with the officers' attitude? like "we don't need no stinkin' warrant"? that's not how it works, dude! 🙄

and can we talk about how local officials are trying to protect these people but still getting shut down by ICE? it's like they're just being ignored and ignored until someone speaks up. I'm all for taking a stand, Emily Jabbour is doing the right thing here, telling residents their rights and stuff. 🙌

but seriously, this is just so messed up. New Jersey needs to do something about this ASAP. we can't let federal agents just run around making arbitrary arrests like they own the place. 😡

🤯 I'm getting so tired of these border arrests and no one's talking about how this is affecting mental health 🤕. It's not just about having your rights explained, it's about feeling safe in your community 👥. What's the point of knowing you have the right to remain silent if you're still gonna be rounded up without warning? 😡 And can we please talk about how this is a total abuse of power? These agents are basically saying "we don't need no stinkin' warrant" and just taking people away 🚔. It's not just the immigrants who should be concerned, it's all of us who care about justice and equality 👊. The fact that local officials are being silenced by ICE is a major red flag 🔴. We need more transparency and accountability here, or else we're gonna see even more people getting hurt 🤕.

I'm really worried about what's going on here 🤕. I mean, who gives these people the power to just show up and start arresting people without warning? It's super unsettling for our community, especially with all the families and kids around. What if they mistake someone for a docu-film crew or something?! 😳 They're like superheroes, but not in a good way 🦸‍♂️. Local officials are trying to tell us what to do, but it's hard to know what's real when you see videos of people getting taken away by masked officers. Can't we just coexist peacefully? 🤝 It's like they're trying to create more fear and tension in our neighborhoods. I'm all for keeping everyone safe, but this isn't the way to do it...

🚨💼 This is super worrying 🤕. I mean, what's the deal with these federal agents just showing up and arresting people without warning? It feels like a big ol' overreach 🙄. They need a warrant or something before they start cuffing people up 💼.

I'm seeing this stuff on social media and it's giving me major anxiety 😬. What if you're walking down the street, minding your own biz, and suddenly these agents come out of nowhere? It's like a scene from a bad movie 🎥.

And can we talk about how these officials are just now speaking up? Like, why did they wait until people were actually getting arrested? shouldn't they have been pushing for change sooner?

I'm all for keeping our communities safe 🛡️, but this feels like a case of "over-enforcement" 😳. Can we find a better way to do things that doesn't involve such a heavy hand?

ugh dont believe everything they say its just a bunch of politicians looking for votes 🤔 the feds gotta do what they gotta do, can't just let anyone who's supposed to be here just waltz in. its not like they're hurting anyone its all just paperwork and procedure. councilmember jakes gonna make sure his constituents are safe and sound (aka non-deportable) by talking smack at the feds 🤷‍♂️

idk why ppl r getting so worked up about this...ICE agents are just doin their job, right? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, some1's gotta enforce the borders, and if they're gettin caught without a warrant, that's not ICE's problem, that's the cops' or whoever's got a warrant 🙄. Councilmember Ephros is actin like he's been personally attacked or somethin, "disturbing" his peaceful morning stroll? Get over it 😂. I mean, I'd be more worried about ppl breakin into my house and takin my stuff than some agents showin up at the border 🚪. And what's with all these mayors gettin involved? They should just let ICE do their thang 👊.

🚨🕵️‍♂️ OMG, did u see those vids? 🤯 Federal immigration agents makin' arrests without warnin'? 🚫 That's straight up scary stuff! 👻 According to eyewitnesses, at least 2 ppl were taken into custody in Hoboken. 🤔 Councilmember Jake Ephros recorded the whole thing and it's just... 📹 ICE agents wearin' masks, handcuffin' people, and drivin' away in unmarked vans? 😲 What's goin' on here?! 👀

Meanwhile, local officials are tryin' to stay calm but their words are full of urgency. 🗣️ Jersey City Mayor James Solomon is condemnin' the whole thing as "frightenin'" and "disturbin'", while Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour's office is tellin' ppl to know their rights. 🤝

Did u see those stats? 📊 According to the Immigration Policy Center, there were over 1 MILLION ICE detainers in 2022 alone. That's a lot of ppl gettin' swept up in these raids! 🚫 And it's not just the numbers – it's the impact on immigrant communities. 😔

Here are some more stats to put this into perspective: 👉 71% of ppl detained by ICE have been living in the US for over 10 years 🕰️
👉 55% of detainees were born in the US 🎓
👉 The majority of people targeted by ICE raids have jobs, families, and ties to their communities 👪

This is all so... unsettlin'. 😬 We need more transparency from our government agencies. 🗣️ Can we get some answers here? 🤔

🤔 man, this is like a nightmare come true... they're just showing up out of nowhere and dragging people away... what's happening to our country? 🌎 it's all about fear and control...ICE agents, think they can just make arrests without warning, no warrants needed... that's not how it works in a democracy, right? 🤷‍♂️ and now the local officials are sounding the alarm, but what's the point? 🚨 is anyone listening to them? 🗣️ this is like a ticking time bomb, waiting to go off... and where does it end? 😱 do we just let the federal government do whatever they want, without any checks or balances? 🤯 no way, that can't be right...

this is getting crazy what's next ICE showing up at our doorstep and taking us away without warning? I'm so worried about my friends who are undocumented, they're already living in fear every day not knowing when or if they'll get deported. it's like they're living on borrowed time 🕰️ this has to stop, we need stricter laws against ICE's actions, not more of the same stuff that lets them do whatever they want without accountability 🚫

OMG what's goin on here 🤯😬 I mean I was just scrollin through my feeds thinkin they're not detainin people without warnin but then I see this and it's like totally scary 😨. I'm all for keepin the borders safe and all that but do we gotta make examples outta people? They're just tryna live their lives, you know? I feel bad for Councilmember Jake Ephros, he was just recordin his phone and stuff 📹. And what's with the masks, it's like they don't wanna be held accountable or somethin 😒. Can we just get some answers from DHS already? It's 2025, for real! 🤖

🤔 ugh it's so messed up when ppl get taken away like that without even knowing what's goin on... like, what if they're just tryna live their lives & pay bills like everyone else? shouldn't we be treatin' ppl w/ kindness & respect regardless of immigration status? 🚫 i'm not anti-law enforcement or anythin', but these ICE agents seem super aggressive & outta line. what's the point of all this? is it just about "enforcing" some kinda quota or somethin'? 🤷‍♀️

man... I was just walking along the Hudson River waterfront with my friends last weekend and we saw this huge group of people from different countries all gathered near the border, chatting and laughing together 🤝 it's amazing how much community there is in Hoboken and Jersey City - everyone looks out for each other. but this news story about ICE agents making arrests without warning... it just doesn't feel right to me 🤕 I mean, what if someone was just trying to get home for the holidays or visit a sick family member? shouldn't they be allowed to come through safely and with dignity?

and can you believe that councilmember Jake Ephros recorded those videos of ICE agents? 📹 that takes a lot of guts. it's crazy how much power these agencies have, like James Solomon said, local police can't even do their jobs without a warrant, it's just not fair.

I don't know what the solution is here, but I think we need to be having more conversations about immigration and how our policies affect real people's lives 💬
