Informative, beautiful and deeply human: it's time to cheer the underrated art of illustration | Oliver Jeffers

I don’t usually comment but I think this is kinda wild that people used to just create stuff for fun and it wasn’t even considered "art" back then. Like, remember when artists were just trying to make a living and they wouldn't even get paid for their work unless it was commissioned by some rich person? Now it's like art is an entire industry with its own rules and hierarchy... 🤯 And the fact that people are making so much money off of "art" is crazy. I mean, who knew drawing a bunch of lines on a canvas could be worth millions? 💸 It just goes to show how fast things change in this world.

man I'm loving this whole art tech fusion thing 🤖💻, we're seeing artists collaborate with coders to create these insane interactive installations that are more like immersive experiences than traditional paintings or sculptures. and you know what's even crazier? people are starting to make a living off just creating digital art 🎨👍, like, the concept of art as a financially rewarding thing is still super new, but I'm all about it! I mean, who wouldn't want to make a living doing something they love? and it's not just the artists, either - we're seeing whole communities forming around digital art, with their own conventions, forums, and social media groups 🤝💻. it's like, the medium doesn't matter as much as what kind of vibe you're trying to create. for me, that's what art is all about - self-expression and pushing boundaries 🔥🎨

Man, think about it... the way we perceive art has changed so much over time, right? Like, when you look at some of the old masterpieces, they're literally just drawings and stuff on a canvas. But now, we're living in this era where art is like a whole different beast. We got galleries, museums, collectors, and all that jazz... it's crazy how much emphasis has been put on making art into a marketable thing.

But here's the thing - what does that even mean? Are we celebrating the individual's creative expression or are we just peddling some mass-produced product to get rich quick? I think about all the artists who went before us, they didn't need all this fuss and fanfare. They were just making art for the love of it. And now, it feels like the value of their work is tied to how much money you can make from selling it... 🤔

It's weird, but I guess that's what progress looks like, right? We're always evolving, growing, and changing our perspectives on what's "art" or not. And hey, who knows, maybe the old-school approach was actually better... 🎨💡

I think its fascinating how our perception of art has shifted over time 🤯. What we consider "art" today was probably just a hobby or illustration back in the day. I mean, can you imagine if Picasso's "Guernica" was just considered a painting to decorate someone's living room? 🤷‍♂️ The idea that individual mark-making could be so highly valued as an expression is pretty remarkable.

I think this change is closely tied to the rise of modernism and the development of art as a profession. Suddenly, artists were being paid for their work and given recognition for their contribution to society 💼. It's interesting how our cultural values can shape what we consider "art" and what we celebrate. But at the same time, I think its also worth recognizing that some forms of artistic expression have always been more widely appreciated than others 🎨.

It makes me wonder about the evolution of art in different cultures and societies – were there always similar distinctions between "high" and "low" art? Or did these changes happen more recently?

omg I cant even believe how far the concept of art has come!!! 🤯 like, think about it we used to be more into actual art skills than just being famous for our face lol. now its all about expression and pushing boundaries and I am HERE FOR IT 💖. but at the same time I feel like weve lost a bit of that traditional craftsmanship that made art so special in the first place 🎨. idk maybe Im just old fashioned but theres something to be said for taking hours to create one piece by hand 💕. anyway its all good cuz its not like art is going anywhere and if people want to make money off it then thats their prerogative 💸.

I'm so stoked about this news 🤩! It's crazy how our perception of what makes something "art" has shifted over time. I mean, think about it - when was the last time you saw someone get paid for just making weird patterns with their finger 🖐️? Like, seriously, who gets a six-figure salary for creating doodles on a canvas?! 🎨

But in all seriousness, this is actually kinda profound. I think it's awesome that we're recognizing the value of individual expression and creative freedom 🤝. It's like, art has always been about self-expression and bringing new ideas to life 💡. And now we're seeing it as a legit industry with its own business models and revenue streams 🤑.

It's also interesting to think about how this shift in perception might impact the tech world 🔥. I mean, what if we start valuing creativity and innovation over just coding skills and technical know-how? 🤔 It could lead to some amazing new opportunities for artists, designers, and makers to get involved in the industry 🌈!
