'Iranians don’t want Islamic Republic: Int'l community should be calling for democratic transition'

Iranian Protests Spark Global Call for Democratic Transition

In the aftermath of a brutal crackdown that has claimed hundreds of lives, the international community is now being urged to shift its approach towards supporting democratic change in Iran. According to Holly Dagres, Senior Fellow at The Washington Institute's Viterbi Program on Iran and US Policy, the fundamental dynamics of the Iranian regime have undergone a profound transformation.

Dagres argues that structural changes within the Islamic Republic have irreversibly altered the balance between state power and popular resistance. This seismic shift has created an environment in which traditional containment policies are no longer effective. Rather than merely stifling dissent, the international community should now be focusing on facilitating a peaceful democratic transition.

The scale of violence inflicted upon protesters by Iranian security forces is starkly evident, with hundreds losing their lives in the course of a movement that has shaken the very foundations of the Islamic Republic. The global community's response to this crisis can no longer be defined solely by a policy of passive restraint, but rather by an active commitment to supporting democratic change.

The implications of Dagres' call for recalibration are profound. By abandoning containment policies and embracing instead the goal of democratic transition, the international community may yet find itself empowered to shape the future of Iran in a way that is truly just and democratic.

My heart goes out to those brave protesters in Iran who risked their lives to stand up for what they believe in 🤕. It's absolutely unacceptable that hundreds have lost their lives due to the brutal crackdown by Iranian security forces 😢. The international community needs to take a stronger stance and support these people in their quest for democracy and freedom 💪. We need to move away from just talking about reform and actually work towards creating a peaceful transition 🕊️. It's time for us to be more proactive and empower the Iranian people to build a better future for themselves 👏.

man... this is gonna be a mess 🤯 i mean think about it - if they start supporting these protests, what's next? israel gonna go next? or russia? it's all just a slippery slope 🌀 and we're already seeing the death toll spike... hundreds of lives lost already? it's not like they're asking for much, just some basic human rights and freedom of speech 🤷‍♂️ but nope, now everyone wants in on the action 💸 and I'm pretty sure this is all gonna end in a major disaster 💥

What's up with these protests in Iran? It sounds like they're trying to "regime" change 🤣, but seriously, can't governments just let their people have some freedom of expression without having to crack down so hard? I mean, I know Iran has a "special" situation, but hundreds of lives lost is just crazy 🤯. Maybe it's time for the world to start saying, "Iran, you're on your own... with a VPN" 😂, but seriously, we should be supporting democratic change over containment policies. It's like they say, "if you can't beat 'em, tweet 'em" 💬, and let Iran's people have their voice heard!

🚀💥 OMG u guys I'm low-key freaking out about these protests in Iran!!! Like, hundreds of ppl lost their lives and its totally unacceptable 😩. But at the same time, I think this could be THE MOMENT for change! If we can get the international community to switch gears from just containing the situation to actually supporting a peaceful democratic transition 🤝... it could be LIFE.CHANGING!!! 💥 We need more ppl like Holly Dagres speaking out and pushing for real change. Can't wait to see what happens next 😬💪

the current situation in iran is getting more and more intense 🚨 it's not just about the protests and the violence, but also about how the world reacts to it... i think we've been too slow to recognize the shift in the iranian regime and now we're seeing the consequences 💥 if we want to support a democratic transition, we need to be more proactive and focused on empowering the people of iran, rather than just waiting for things to calm down 🤝 it's time for a new approach, one that prioritizes justice, equality, and freedom for all Iranians 👏

the fact that Iran's protests have gone on for so long says something about the people there - they're not going anywhere 🤔. but seriously, what's with all these calls for "democratic transition"? isn't it kinda obvious that the Iranian regime isn't gonna give up power anytime soon? 🤑 we need to be thinking of more concrete ways to support the protesters, like actual funding or humanitarian aid rather than just being all talk about how we should've done things differently...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this Iranian protest situation 🤯. It's crazy to think that the global community is finally starting to acknowledge that containment policies aren't working anymore 🚫. I mean, it's been clear for ages that Iran's regime has become pretty unstable 😬. What's concerning me though is how this all plays out. Will we just end up fueling more unrest or will we actually see some real change? The idea of supporting a democratic transition is really interesting 💡. We need to make sure that any "help" we offer is gonna be constructive, not just a Band-Aid solution 🤕. It's time for the world to take a closer look at what Iran needs and how we can support it in a way that benefits everyone – not just the protesters or the regime 💖.

I'm really worried about what's going on in Iran right now 😩. The scale of violence is just horrific, it's like they're trying to silence anyone who speaks out against the government. I think we need to step up our support for the protesters, not just offer sympathy from afar. Containment policies aren't working anymore, we need to find a way to facilitate a peaceful transition to democracy. It's time for us as an international community to take action and help create a future where Iranians can live freely without fear of persecution or violence. We can't just sit back and wait for things to get better on their own 🤞.

OMG, u guys this protests in Iran are getting crazy 😱! I'm literally shook by all those ppl losin their lives over tryin 2 demand change 💔. I think its sooo overdue for the world 2 step in & support these ppl's fight 4 democracy 🤝. Like, containment policies r nothin but a waste of time, we need 2 be willin 2 take action & help these people get the gov they deserve 🚫💪. I'm def invested in seein what happens next, fyi 👀

🤔 think its about time we dont play by the old rules anymore 📊 if we want irans people to be free they need help not more sanctions or isolation 🚫👎 what if we try to support their voices instead of just sitting back 👀💬

can we stop with this "containment" policy already? it's like they're letting Iran just suffocate under its own authoritarian regime 🙄 meanwhile hundreds of people are losing their lives over there... what's the alternative to passive restraint? active support for democracy sounds great on paper but have we seen how that plays out in other countries? like, remember Venezuela? anyway i think this is a good starting point and i'm all for supporting democratic change, just need to see it through... 💥

I think it's a total disaster if we're talking about throwing our support behind these protests now 🙅‍♂️. We're already getting drawn into this mess, what's next? The last thing we need is for the US or other Western countries to start backing some Iranian opposition group that's just as radical and unpredictable as the current regime 👊. And let's not forget, Iran has got a long history of using democratic movements as a cover for their own agenda - we can't trust them to do what's right 💔. The best approach is still good old containment policies - at least they keep things stable around here 🙏
