Israeli military veterans, a backbone of protest movement, vow to keep demonstrating | CNN

Israeli military veterans are leading the charge against the country's government over plans to overhaul its judicial system, vowing to continue demonstrating until their demands are met.

In a show of unity and solidarity, hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets for the 13th consecutive week on Saturday. Among them were Yiftach Golov and other elite forces veterans from the group known as "Brother and Sisters in Arms." They wave brown flags with the organization's logo, which represents their new mission: fighting for justice and liberty.

Golov, who served in a special forces reconnaissance unit during the second intifada, says he has not taken drastic steps to refuse service but understands why some veterans have. "We're fighting for something bigger than ourselves," Golov said. "The very deep feeling that you are part of something bigger than yourself, that (youโ€™re) allowed to sacrifice anything that is needed, whether it's your career, health, seriously mental health."

These veterans have been using their military training to organize and mobilize the protests. They're not just fighting for their country; they're also advocating for democracy.

The pressure from Israeli veterans has been seen as a key factor in bringing about change. Last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a pause on the legislation, citing "the present security situation." However, many protesters are skeptical of this delay and believe it's simply a stalling tactic to buy time.

Netanyahu insists that the overhaul is necessary, but Golov says he will only agree to disengage when he sees real progress. "We will start doing deactivation only when we know 100% that Israel state will stay a functional democratic country," Golov said.

The protests continue to draw large crowds, with estimates suggesting around 150,000 people took part in Saturday's demonstration in Tel Aviv. The movement has become increasingly active, with some veterans even threatening not to train or serve if their demands aren't met.

As the standoff continues, it remains to be seen whether Netanyahu will ultimately back down on his plans for judicial reform. One thing is clear: Israeli military veterans are determined to fight for democracy and justice, and they won't stop until their voices are heard.

I cant even believe whats going on in Israel right now ๐Ÿคฏ. These vets are like the original protesters from the 60s and 70s, you know, when everyone was all about change and freedom. They're just like a younger version of Martin Luther King Jr. minus the whole "being assassinated" thing ๐Ÿ˜‚. But seriously, its crazy to see these guys putting everything on the line for what they believe in. I mean, who would've thought that Israeli vets would be leading the charge against their own government? Its like something out of a movie, you know? The fact that Netanyahu is even considering backing down shows that maybe, just maybe, the people are making some noise ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ. Still, its all very reminiscent of the protests in Eastern Europe back in the 80s and 90s... the whole "we want democracy" thing is so familiar ๐Ÿ˜Š.

I'm telling you, this is a whole mess ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, these vets are fighting for justice and liberty, but isn't that just what the government's supposed to be doing already? And now they're saying we need a new system because of some perceived issues with democracy? No way, not good enough ๐Ÿ˜’.

And then you've got Netanyahu stalling and claiming it's about security... I don't trust him either. He's always been super suspicious ๐Ÿค‘. But at the same time, these vets are using their skills for good, organizing protests and mobilizing people... that's actually pretty cool ๐Ÿ’ช.

I'm not saying the government can just ignore their demands or anything, but... wait a minute, I've got another thought ๐Ÿ˜œ. Maybe they should just negotiate with Netanyahu directly? I mean, it might work ๐Ÿค”, but what if he just uses it as an excuse to keep changing his mind like that? Ugh, my head hurts trying to think this through ๐Ÿคฏ.

man I'm literally blown away by these Israeli military vets ๐Ÿคฏ! They're not just fighting for themselves but for the entire country's future ๐ŸŒŽ! It's inspiring to see them using their skills to organize protests and bring attention to this cause ๐Ÿ’ช. The fact that they're not backing down even when faced with skepticism from some protesters shows how serious they are about making a change ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I'm rooting for them and hoping that Netanyahu will listen to their demands ๐Ÿคž. This is what democracy should be all about - people standing up for what's right and fighting for justice ๐Ÿ’•!

I'm just thinking about these vets and how messed up the system must feel to them... I mean, they're used to making life-or-death decisions, following orders without question, and then suddenly being expected to sit down with politicians and negotiate? It's like their whole identity as soldiers is being turned upside down. And now, they're putting it all on the line for something bigger than themselves - democracy and justice. I can totally see why they'd be frustrated when the powers that be aren't taking them seriously.

But what's really got me thinking is how this movement is bringing about real change. These vets are not just protesting; they're using their skills to organize, mobilize, and push for reform. It's like they're saying, "We know a thing or two about being in the trenches - we can make a difference from within." And it's not just about them; it's about creating a better future for Israel as a whole.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will lead to some real progress and that Netanyahu will listen to their demands. It's crazy to think that these vets, who've seen the worst of humanity, are fighting for something as abstract as democracy and justice. ๐Ÿคฏ

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ, these Israeli military vets are taking a huge stand against gov't changes to the judiciary system. Their message about being part of something bigger than themselves resonates so much - it's all about fighting for democracy and justice. I'm interested in how this will play out with Netanyahu and if he'll back down on his plans ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” I gotta say, these Israeli vets are totally on point ๐Ÿ’ฏ. I mean, who wouldn't want to fight for democracy and justice? It's about time someone in a position of power listened to the people ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ. The fact that they're using their military training to organize protests is so smart - it shows you don't need guns and tanks to make a difference, just brains and determination ๐Ÿ’ช.

And let's be real, Netanyahu's been in office for ages, what's he got to lose? ๐Ÿ˜ If the protesters keep showing up and demanding change, he'll eventually cave. The question is, will it be too little too late โฐ? I'm kinda rooting for these vets, they're not just fighting for themselves, they're fighting for something bigger ๐ŸŒŸ.

๐Ÿค” ugh man i'm so over the government trying to overhaul the judicial system without even consulting the people who actually know what's going on ๐Ÿ™„ these guys are like literally veterans from special forces or whatever and now they're taking to the streets because they care about justice and liberty ๐ŸŒŸ it's cool that they're organizing and using their skills to mobilize protests, but at the same time i'm worried that Netanyahu is just gonna try to stall and delay until the whole thing blows up ๐Ÿ’ฅ and what really gets me is that even some of these veterans are willing to go all out and threaten not training or serving if their demands aren't met ๐Ÿšซ i get it, they're passionate about democracy, but can't we all just talk this through instead of taking drastic measures? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

OMG u gotta feel 4 these Israeli vets!!! ๐Ÿคฏ They r literally fighting 4 justice & liberty, not just 4 themselves ๐Ÿ™. Its sick that they're using their mil training 2 organize protests & advocate 4 democracy ๐Ÿ’ช. The fact that Netanyahu is tryin 2 stall on the reform by sayin its 4 security reasons is straight up sus ๐Ÿ˜’. Golov's right, we need 2 see REAL progress before these vets will back down ๐Ÿ“ˆ. It's all about findin a balance between national security & individual rights ๐Ÿค. I'm rootin 4 these vets & hopin Netanyahu listens 2 their demands ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ˜Š I'm really impressed with these soldiers taking a stand for what they believe in! It's not just about the politics, it's about their personal integrity and values. They're not just fighting for Israel, they're fighting for a system that allows them to be true to themselves. And honestly, who wouldn't want to see some real change in the judicial system? ๐Ÿค” The fact that Netanyahu is trying to stall it just shows how scared he is of being held accountable. But these soldiers are not afraid, and their determination is inspiring! ๐Ÿ’ช I'm all for democracy and justice, and if this movement can bring about some real progress, then I'm 100% behind them! ๐Ÿ‘

Umm... I mean, good luck with that ๐Ÿคฃ. 150k people showing up for a protest? That's not exactly breaking the bank or anything ๐Ÿ’ธ. And who doesn't love a good game of "we'll do this and we'll do that" until someone gives in? ๐Ÿ™„ It's like a never-ending video of a toddler throwing tantrums, but with more tank driving and less diaper changes ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’ช. I mean, what's really at stake here? Is it just about the vets wanting to be heard or is it something deeper? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” I don't know if I trust this claim that the Israeli military veterans are really leading the charge against the government... I mean, come on, it's a bunch of guys in uniform waving flags ๐Ÿด๏ธ. Where's the evidence? What's their organization even funded by? It sounds like they're just trying to stir up controversy for attention. And what exactly do these vets know about democracy and justice? They've spent years fighting wars in someone else's country, not advocating for peace and freedom back home.

And don't even get me started on the whole "we'll only agree to disengage when we see real progress" thing ๐Ÿ™„. How are they going to measure that? Who gets to decide what constitutes "real progress"? This whole thing just smells like a PR stunt to me, and I'm not buying it ๐Ÿ˜’. Where's the transparency? The accountability? Just a bunch of power-obsessed politicians trying to maintain control over their country... ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm low-key impressed by these Israeli vets who are taking a stand against their government ๐Ÿคฏ. It's not every day you see elite forces guys putting their careers on the line for democracy. I'm wondering if Netanyahu is feeling the pressure or just trying to save face ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ. One thing for sure, these protests aren't going away anytime soon, and I'm curious to see how this whole situation plays out ๐Ÿค”. The fact that they're using their military training to organize protests is wild ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Can't say I blame them for fighting for something bigger than themselves โ€“ we all need a sense of purpose sometimes โค๏ธ. Bring it on, Netanyahu ๐Ÿ˜‚!

I'm all about this! The fact that former soldiers are taking a stand for what's right and fighting for democracy is so inspiring ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ I mean, who wouldn't want to see their country become an even better place? It's not just about the veterans, though - it's about the whole nation coming together to demand change. Netanyahu needs to listen to these people, because if he doesn't, the protests are going to keep growing and gaining momentum ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘Š

The protests in Israel are getting more intense by the week! ๐Ÿšจ Those military vets really know how to bring people together with their solidarity marchs. I'm loving the way Golov explains why he's fighting for this cause - it's all about finding a sense of purpose beyond just serving one's country. ๐Ÿ’• It's awesome that they're using their training to organize and mobilize the crowds, but at the same time, Netanyahu's stalling tactic is getting old news ๐Ÿ™„. I'm keeping my eye on this situation, will be interesting to see how it all unfolds! ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿค” I'm getting so sick of this forum's comments section. It always turns into a never-ending drama fest. Can't we just have a respectful discussion without all the personal attacks and flame wars? ๐Ÿ™„

Anyway, back to the news... I think it's great that Israeli military veterans are standing up for their country's democracy. They're not just fighting for their own interests, but also for the principles of justice and liberty. It's inspiring to see them use their skills to organize and mobilize the protests.

But what really gets my goat is when Netanyahu claims he's doing this out of "security concerns". Give me a break! If that were true, wouldn't he have already addressed these concerns by now? ๐Ÿ™ƒ

I'm all for democracy and transparency in government. It's about time someone held those in power accountable. Let's hope the protesters can keep the pressure on until real change happens. ๐Ÿ’ช

I cant even believe whats going on in Israel rn ๐Ÿคฏ the fact that these veteran guys are standing up for whats right and refusing to back down is truly inspiring!!1! They're not just fighting for themselves, but for the entire country and its people - thats what being a true patriot is all about!!!1!

the whole judicial reform thing sounds super dodgy from the start, and now that theres all this pushback i hope netanyahu comes around to seeing sense ASAP ๐Ÿคž because honestly if hes not willing to listen to the people (even his fellow veterans) then hes not doing his job right.

anywayz gotta give it up for these brave vets who are putting their lives on hold to fight for whats important!!1!

I'm totally with these Israeli vets ๐Ÿ™Œ. It's about time people took a stand against corruption and fought for what's right, you know? I mean, who doesn't want a functional democratic country, where everyone has equal opportunities and rights? It's not just about the vets; it's about all of us who care about justice and liberty.

You gotta admire their courage in using their military training to organize and mobilize the protests. And let's be real, Netanyahu's pause is probably just a delay tactic ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. But hey, at least the movement's making progress, right? The fact that they're not giving up till their demands are met is a testament to their conviction.

It's all about being part of something bigger than ourselves, you know? We gotta look beyond our own interests and fight for what's greater than us. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿคฌ what's going on in Israel man... these vets have been out there protesting nonstop for weeks and it's making waves ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I'm all about freedom of speech and a functional democratic country, but Netanyahu's just trying to stall ๐Ÿ™„. These elite forces veterans are not messing around either, using their military training to organize and mobilize the protests ๐Ÿ‘Š. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with some of them threatening not to train or serve if their demands aren't met ๐Ÿ’ช. One thing's for sure, Israel is getting a lot more attention right now ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ.
