It's not too late to donate to our appeal that has raised £900k for charities tackling hate

"Hope in Desperate Times: Last Chance to Support Charities Fighting Hate"

The UK's latest charity appeal has reached a staggering £900,000, raising funds for vital organisations working tirelessly to combat hate and division. Launched amidst a growing climate of racism and social unrest, the appeal has highlighted the crucial role of grassroots charities in promoting unity and understanding.

Despite its progress, there is still time to make a difference. The appeal will close at midnight on Wednesday, leaving thousands of pounds up for grabs. We urge those who have yet to donate to consider supporting this critical cause.

The funds raised will be distributed among five highly respected charities: Citizens UK, the Linking Network, Locality, Hope Unlimited Charitable Trust, and Who Is Your Neighbour? Each organisation has a unique approach to building bridges between communities, fostering empathy and breaking down barriers.

From Father Chris Hughes's "Walk of Hope" initiative in North Shields to Salaam Shalom Kitchen's innovative joint Muslim-Jewish food project in Nottingham, these charities are leading the way in promoting cross-cultural understanding. The Linking Network's schools matching schemes bring together children from diverse backgrounds, while Who Is Your Neighbour? tackles difficult conversations around race and immigration.

By supporting this appeal, donors will be contributing to a range of initiatives aimed at nurturing community pride and solidarity. Locality and Hope Unlimited Charitable Trust will regrant funds to local organisations working on the ground, while Citizens UK will use its share to train community leaders in campaigning for positive change.

This appeal is not just about raising money; it's also an opportunity to shine a light on the vital role of the voluntary sector. Over £16 million has been raised by Guardian readers through annual appeals in the past 11 years, supporting causes from refugee support to conflict resolution, climate action, homelessness, and child poverty.

Don't miss your chance to make a difference. Donate today and help create a more inclusive, empathetic society for all.

OMG, I'm literally so inspired by this 💖! £900k is just insane! 🤯 We need more people like the ones supporting these charities - they're making such a huge impact ✨. Can't believe it's almost time to close the appeal tho... gotta make that last push! 💪

OMG I'm so hyped about this charity appeal 🤩! £900k is crazy! But what's even crazier is that it's not just about throwing money at the problem – these charities are actually DOING something tangible to bring people together 💕. Like, have you heard of Salaam Shalom Kitchen? It's a Muslim-Jewish food project in Nottingham and it's literally serving up love and understanding on a plate 🍴! The Linking Network's schools matching schemes are another thing – how cool is it that they're bringing kids from different backgrounds together to learn about each other's cultures? 🤝 We need more of this kind of stuff, you know?! So yeah, let's get donating and make a real difference in the world 💪!

man this is really sad that people have to live in times where they need charities to fight hate 🤕... i mean its good that these charities are doing what they can but £900k might not even scratch the surface of whats needed to be done 💸... i wish everyone could just get along and we wouldn't need any of this 🙏... its heartbreaking to think about all the people who are struggling because of hate and division 🤕

Come on, £16 million is like peanuts! I mean, the UK's got plenty of money, but it's where you put it that matters. These charities are doing great work, don't get me wrong, but have they thought about the long-term? When's the last time we saw any real change in policy because of all this fundraising? It's just a drop in the ocean 🤔💸

I just found out about this charity appeal thingy 🤔💸. I've been meaning to give to some charities, but I never really know where to start, you know? Like, which ones are legit and stuff? 🙄. So, £900k is like, a lot of money for one thing... how do they make sure it's all being used for good? 🤷‍♀️. And what's with the different charities doing their own things? I get that everyone has to find their own way, but doesn't it just get confusing? 😂. Oh well, if people are donating big bucks, I guess it can only be a good thing? 💕

omg u guys this is so inspiring!! i was really down yesterday but reading about these charities made me feel like we can actually make a change 🤩 they're doing some amazing work and its not just about throwing money at the problem its about building real connections between people from different backgrounds i think we should all be donating as much as we can because every little bit counts 💸 it would be so cool if more ppl started talking about this stuff on social media instead of just sharing memes lol

omg u guys this is amazing news!!!! i'm literally so proud of the UK for coming together like this ❤️💖 900k is huge and it's just the beginning 🚀 these charities r doing such incredible work fighting hate & division and promoting unity & understanding 🌈🤝 can't thank them enough 💕

🌟💖 OMG I'm literally feeling all the feels right now!!! $900k is insane!! 🤯 We NEED to support these charities ASAP! 💪 They're doing such amazing work bringing people together & breaking down barriers 😊 Like who isn't tired of hate & division? Not me, def not! 💕 Every little bit counts, let's make a difference before it's too late midnight on Wednesday 🕰️ Donate now & spread the love 🌈💖

omg u guys this charity appeal is literally giving me LIFE 🤩 £900k is still up for grabs & it's not too late 2 donate!!! these charities r doing some amazing work promoting unity & understanding in our communities. i mean we need more ppl like Father Chris Hughes who's out there makin a difference thru his "Walk of Hope" initiative ❤️ let's support these grassroots orgs & help create a society where everyone feels seen & included 🌎

You know what's really striking about this whole thing? It's how our actions – or lack thereof – can have such a profound impact on the world around us. £900k is an incredible amount of money, but it's just a drop in the ocean when you think about the scale of the problems we're facing. And yet, here we are, at this point in history, where every little bit counts... 🤯 I mean, don't get me wrong, it's amazing that so many people have come together to support these charities. But what really gets me is how this whole thing highlights the tension between individual action and collective responsibility. We can all donate money or spread awareness, but at the end of the day, it's up to each of us to make a genuine effort to be more empathetic, understanding, and inclusive in our daily lives...

I'm still blown away by how far-reaching this charity appeal is 🤯. It's amazing to see so many different charities coming together under one umbrella to tackle some of the most pressing issues we face in society. The fact that they're using grassroots approaches like Salaam Shalom Kitchen and Father Chris Hughes's Walk of Hope initiative is really inspiring - it shows that even small actions can make a big difference.

But what I think is really important here is that this appeal isn't just about throwing money at the problem; it's also about raising awareness about the impact that charities are having on our communities. We need more people to understand the work that these organisations are doing and how they're making a positive change in people's lives.

I think what's most impressive, though, is the diversity of charities involved in this appeal. From tackling racism and social unrest to supporting refugee causes and climate action, there's something here for everyone. It's not just about throwing money at one specific issue; it's about recognizing that hate and division are interconnected problems that require a holistic solution.

So yeah, I'm definitely donating 🤑... and hopefully you'll consider doing the same too!

I'm so down for charities that fight hate! 💖 I feel like we need more people like these orgs who are actively working on building bridges between communities. It's not just about giving money, it's also about spreading awareness and promoting unity. I wish I could donate more but £900k is still a lot to swallow in one go 🤑. Can't believe the progress they've made already though! 5 charities with different approaches but all working towards the same goal - I'm here for that 💪

Just read about this charity appeal and I'm so moved 🤗! £900k is still a huge amount, but it's also kinda depressing that we need an appeal in the first place, you know? 🤕 Like, shouldn't we already be living in a society where everyone gets along just fine? 🌎

But seriously, these charities are doing some amazing work and I think it's great that they're getting so much attention. I mean, who wouldn't want to support organisations like Citizens UK or Who Is Your Neighbour?? They're all about building bridges and fostering empathy, which is exactly what we need more of in the world right now.

So yeah, if you haven't donated yet, please do! 🙏 It's a great opportunity to make a difference and I'm sure whatever you give will be used to help people in real ways. And let's not forget that every little bit counts, even just £5 or something 🤑

🙏 £900k is a crazy amount of money raised in such a short time, but I think it's still a drop in the ocean compared to what these charities actually do on the ground. What really gets me is how some of these initiatives are run by volunteers and community leaders who are making real change without all the fanfare 🙌. Still, £900k is better than nothing, right?

🙄 I mean, yay for charity appeals! £900k is still not bad, but I guess it's about time someone threw some love at the community groups trying to make a difference in this crazy world 🤷‍♀️. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that all the cool kids are already donating... 😉 anyway, let's just say I'll be keeping an eye on those £16 million or whatever from the past 11 years... not like I have better things to spend my cash on 😜

I'm so done with these charity appeals 🙄. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's great that people are coming together to support causes like this... but can't we just donate without being guilt-tripped into feeling obligated? 😒 And what's up with the Guardian always being the ones to organize these things? Can't they just post a link to a charity website and leave us alone? 🤦‍♀️

And have you seen the list of charities they're raising money for? So many names, so little info on their actual work... I mean, I'm sure they're all doing good, but it feels like just another way for people to give without really understanding what's going on behind the scenes 🤔.

And let's be real, £900k is a pretty big chunk of change... but where's that kind of money been going before? 🤑

I don’t usually comment but... £900k is insane! I mean, I've seen some big charity appeals before, but this one takes the cake 🍰. I think it's great that these charities are doing their thing, even if it's a last chance to support them. I'm not really sure what I'd donate to, tbh - all of these orgs sound super legit and stuff 🤔. What I am kinda hoping is that more people will get on board because £16m in the past 11 years isn't chump change 💸. It's a shame that there are still some really problematic things going around in the world right now, but at least we've got these charities to help push back against them 🌎

🤔 the UK's charity appeal is getting close to closing 🕰️... I think it's amazing how much money has been raised so far £900k 😲 that's a lot of people coming together to support charities fighting hate 💖 gotta say though, there are still plenty of organisations out there doing some really cool work like Salaam Shalom Kitchen 👌

omg cant believe its only £900k left 🤑 these charities are literally doing amazing work & we should be super proud of ourselves for supporting them so far! its not just about throwing money at the problem tho - these orgs are on the ground, making real changes in their communities. lets not forget the ones like Salaam Shalom Kitchen who r bringin ppl together over food 🍴 cant wait 2 see what happens after the appeal closes 😊
