Chelsea have begun talks to sign Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet in the January transfer window, according to sources. The Blues are reportedly being quoted over £60m for the 20-year-old France Under-21 international, although rival interest is believed to be substantial.
The move comes as Chelsea look to strengthen their defence, particularly with Levi Colwill still recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in pre-season. However, the club's long-term plans remain centred around Colwill, who will feature later in the campaign.

i mean i get why they'd want him, he sounds like a beast 
but doesnt that seem a bit crazy? the football world has changed so much in the last few years... do players really get transferred for almost as many times as their salary is 
anyway im just wondering if chelsea are gonna end up signing someone who can actually play, or just another benchwarmer 
and whats with all these other clubs sniffing around jacquet? didnt bournemouth know he was basically a done deal

think they're gonna fix their defense with some rookie players. dont get me wrong, jacquet seems like a solid pick but 60m is crazy for someone who hasnt even started an international match yet? maybe they should focus on getting colwill back from his injury first

chelsea need 2 get their defence sorted ASAP & i think signing jacquet would b a solid move 4 them! hes young & has done well 4 rennes already... plus colwill's injury is still a worry lol. but i dont think it's just about finding someone to fill the gap, chelsea should be lookin at buildin a real defence 2. like, they cant keep relyin on kurt zouma & thiago silva all da time 
£60m is steep but i think it's worth it if he can deliver on the pitch. hopefully colwill recovers soon so they dont have to rely too much on this new signing
