ABC7 News is seeking a dedicated and ambitious individual to join its team as an Assignment Desk News Intern for Summer/Fall 2026. As part of this internship program, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in television news production, contribute to daily operations, and develop essential skills in journalism.
As an intern at ABC7 News, your day-to-day responsibilities may include attending production meetings, answering phones, assisting with covering news events, viewing and logging tapes, transcribing interviews, researching new topics, observing editors, writers, producers, directors, and technical crews. You will also have the chance to research online/social media news gathering and assist in planning news stories.
The ideal candidate for this internship is a recent college student or current undergraduate with prior experience in journalism, television news production, or related fields. They should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. A high level of attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential.
In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, applicants who have completed coursework in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, producing, writing, editing, or related majors will be given preference. Experience with social media for news gathering and familiarity with newsroom software are also highly desirable.
The internship is open to candidates enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree, participating in a Disney College Program, or currently employed as part of a Disney internship. The selected candidate must be at least 18 years old, possess unrestricted work authorization, and not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
Successful applicants can expect to receive a competitive hourly rate of $22.50 per hour, with select benefits available as part of the compensation package.

my kiddo would love to get an internship like that! it sounds like such a great way to learn about the news industry and gain some real world experience. I think what's most important is that they'll be able to work with a talented team of people who are passionate about storytelling and sharing information with the public. my kid is really into media studies in school and would totally thrive in an environment like this 
i mean can you imagine getting to work with all the cool news people and learning from them? I'm like a total media nerd, always watching TV news and trying to learn more about how it's made. I've already started building my portfolio on YouTube, so this would be like a dream come true! 
And the fact that they're offering $22.50 per hour is amazing, I could totally use that cash to pay off some student loans

The thing I worry about though is how competitive the application process will be - with so many people wanting to get into TV news, it can be tough to stand out.
