Jon Grey leaves Wales women role to take men's under-18 and Swansea City jobs

Jon Grey, the assistant coach of Wales' women's national team, has stepped down to take on two new roles: managing the men's under-18 side and becoming loans and player pathway manager at Swansea City. This development comes as a surprise, given that Grey had been an integral part of the women's programme since joining in 2023.

Under head coach Rhian Wilkinson, Grey helped Wales secure qualification for their first major tournament at Euro 2025. However, he has now announced his departure to rekindle his connection with Swansea City, where he played youth football back in the 1990s and later returned as a coach in 2009.

Grey expressed gratitude towards all parties involved in reaching an agreement, stating that taking on both roles will allow him to work for his club and country simultaneously. In response, Wilkinson praised Grey's dedication to the women's programme, describing him as "an integral part of" the team. The Wales boss also thanked Grey for his support and expressed pleasure working with him over the past few years.

As Swansea City looks to bolster its youth development efforts, Grey's appointment could prove instrumental in re-establishing a strong pipeline of talented players. Meanwhile, Grey will be tasked with nurturing the next generation of Welsh football talent as he takes on the men's under-18 side.

Omg I'm so bummed to see Jon Grey go from the women's team ๐Ÿค• he's been such a huge part of their success and I loved watching him work his magic on the pitch ๐Ÿ’ซ but at the same time I'm stoked for him - Swansea City is like, his second home, you know? ๐Ÿ  he's going to be an amazing coach for the under-18s and helping out with player development will be so cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž can't wait to see how it all plays out ๐Ÿคž

Just great, another move that'll probably disrupt everything ๐Ÿ™„. Guy was doing a decent job with Wales women's team and now he just up and leaves for Swansea City? Sounds like he wants to chase some personal glory or get his foot back in the door at his old club... meanwhile, who's gonna cover his role on the women's team? Didn't think so ๐Ÿค”. And now he's gotta juggle both roles, good luck with that, Grey! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ˜ฎ what's going on here? first they've got their women's team qualifyin for Euro 2025 and now they're losin one of their key coaches to take on even more responsibilities... ๐Ÿคฏ i get that jon grey is passionate about his club, but doesn't this just create a lot more pressure on the men's under-18s? ๐Ÿˆ i remember when i was playin footy back in the day and the coach was always sayin we gotta work harder if we wanna make it to the top... now they're expectin these kids to perform at that level with one of their best coaches gone, it just doesn't sit right ๐Ÿ˜”

OMG, can you believe Jon Grey is ditching the women's team to take on these new roles? I get why he wants to rekindle his connection with Swansea City though - it's like when they say "you can't buy back time" ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ and he's trying to create a legacy in youth football. It's bittersweet for Rhian Wilkinson and the women's team, but at least Grey is leaving on good terms. The men's under-18 side might just get a cool new coach, though! Maybe this is the start of something amazing for Welsh football ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” IT'S A BIG CHANGE FOR WALES FOOTBALL AFTER GREY LEFT THE WOMEN'S TEAM!!! I FEEL BAD FOR RHIAN WILKINSON AND THE REST OF THE SQUAD, THEY REALLY DEPENDED ON HIM. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, IT'S EXCITING TO SEE HOW HE'LL DO WITH SWANSEA CITY AND THE YOUNG PLAYERS!!! ๐Ÿ’ช

omg what's going on here Jon Grey is leaving the women's team to coach the u18 boys and help out at Swansea City ๐Ÿคฏ i guess it makes sense since he played youth footy back in the 90s but still surprised that he left now after just 2 years ๐Ÿ™„ rhian wilkinson sounds like a cool boss tho, glad she's got someone as awesome to take over ๐Ÿ˜Š anyway this means Jon can work on more projects at once which is def a plus for swansea city, let's see how it all goes down ๐Ÿ‘€

So Jon Grey is leaving his job as assistant coach for Wales women's team to take two new roles... I don't get it ๐Ÿค”. He was doing a great job helping them qualify for Euro 2025, and now he's just gonna leave? It's like he's chasing something else that's more important to him. And what's with the men's under-18 side? Is Wales really struggling to find talented young players or something?

I guess it's good news for Swansea City though ๐ŸŽ‰. They could use some help in developing their youth team, and Jon Grey seems like a good guy to have around. But I'm still a bit confused about why he left the women's team... did they offer him a better deal? ๐Ÿค‘

omg what just happened ๐Ÿคฏ i mean i thought jon grey was like super loyal to wales womens team he's been there since 2023 and they even qualified for euro 2025 together ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and now he's leaving for swansea city? that's a big deal, i guess. i'm kinda sad for rhian wilkinson though, she must be losing one of her closest teammates ๐Ÿค— anyway, it sounds like grey is really passionate about helping the younger generation at swansea, fingers crossed they'll become some awesome players soon ๐Ÿ’ช

man I'm shocked ๐Ÿคฏ! Jon Grey was like a key player in the women's team and now he's ditching them for Swansea City? I mean I get it, his roots are there and all but still gotta wonder what this means for Wales' chances at Euro 2025... Wilkinson seems cool about it tho ๐Ÿ˜Š. It's weird that Grey is taking on both roles too - like is he even gonna have time to breathe ๐Ÿคฃ. Can't wait to see how this plays out, especially with the under-18s! Maybe Swansea City will be able to tap into some Welsh talent and become a real force in English football ๐Ÿ’ช

awww this is such amazing news ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ†! Jon Grey has been an integral part of the Wales women's team and now he gets to work with his beloved Swansea City and help develop more young talents ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’ช it's like he's getting two chances at a dream job ๐Ÿ˜Š I'm so happy for him and can't wait to see what he achieves in both roles ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ another coaching carousel ๐Ÿ”„. guess that means Wales' women's team is just gonna have to figure out how to win a game without their trusty assistant coach ๐Ÿ˜…. on a more serious note, good luck to Jon Grey, I hope he doesn't burn the youth teams at Swansea City with his new roles ๐Ÿ™. and hey, if anyone needs him, Wales' ladies can always call up Rhian Wilkinson to sort them out ๐Ÿ‘€.

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda surprised Jon Grey is leaving the women's team, but also not really, 'cause it sounds like he was meant to take over at Swansea City anyway ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ. He played youth football there back in the day and now he gets to go back! It makes sense he'd wanna come back home, but I'm gonna miss seeing him on the sidelines at Welsh women's games ๐Ÿ˜”. On the flip side, it's awesome that he gets to work with both the men's under-18 team and Swansea City, 'cause that's a dream setup for any coach ๐Ÿ‘. I just hope they can find someone else who's as integral to the women's programme as Grey was ๐Ÿคž.

OMG, Jon Grey is low-key a genius ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, who else can just swoop in and take charge of two teams at once? Like, what's next, taking over the whole country? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง But seriously, he's got skills, right? From managing the women's team to coaching the under-18s at Swansea City, this dude is on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ! The fact that he's going back to his roots and playing a part in developing young Welsh talent is pure gold ๐Ÿ’›. I'm low-key rooting for him to make it happen โ€“ fingers crossed for Grey and the boys! ๐Ÿ‘

I'm kinda surprised about Jon Grey leaving Wales' women's team ๐Ÿค”. He was part of it since 2023 and helped them qualify for Euro 2025, which is huge! But I guess he wants to get back to his roots with Swansea City, where he used to play youth football in the 90s ๐Ÿ’ช. It's cool that they're willing to let him take on two roles at once - I'm sure it'll be interesting to see how he balances coaching the men's under-18 team and working with their loans ๐Ÿคฏ. Swansea City must be excited to have someone with his experience in youth football development, and I hope he can bring some success to the club as well ๐Ÿ’•.

just read about jon grey leaving wales women's team ๐Ÿค” and i gotta say, it's a bit surprising considering how much work they did together since 2023 ๐Ÿ˜Š. but hey, you can never go wrong with wanting to give back to your roots, right? โšฝ๏ธ he's always been passionate about developing young talent, so this move makes total sense for him ๐Ÿค. and let's be real, it'll be awesome to see him work his magic on the next gen of welsh footballers ๐Ÿ‘. only time will tell how this new chapter unfolds! ๐Ÿ’ฌ

omg what a move by Jon Grey ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, who wouldn't want to balance club and country life? but gotta ask, does this mean Wales' women's team is gonna suffer without him? Rhian Wilkinson seemed pretty down about it too ๐Ÿ˜”. anywayz, can't wait to see how Swansea City benefits from his expertise. the youth development side of things is super important for any football club ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช. and I gotta say, Jon Grey's loyalty to his old club is pretty admirable ๐Ÿ’•. guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out ๐Ÿ˜Š
