this sale is a nightmare for all those struggling with rent stabilized apartments in NYC. I feel so bad for these tenants who've been living with broken ceilings, mold & vermin infestations... it's just unacceptable. The government has done everything they can to delay the deal but at the end of the day, someone's gotta foot the bill for repairs.
I'm worried about Summit Properties USA though - have they got the resources or expertise to fix all these issues? I don't want them to turn a blind eye and leave tenants with substandard living conditions like Pinnacle did. We need more oversight on these deals to make sure no one gets taken advantage of.
It's also really concerning that there are family ties between Summit and Pinnacle - it smells like a conflict of interest to me. Can we trust them to do what's best for the tenants or will they just be pushing their own interests?
I'm glad tenants' organizations are being vocal about this issue & organizing themselves... it's not gonna be easy, but if anyone can make a difference, it's them!
I'm really worried about what's gonna happen to these apartments. I mean, 6,500 housing code violations is crazy! how can one company possibly fix that in a reasonable amount of time? And with family ties between the owners and previous slumlord CEOs... it just smells like more of the same old thing. We need some real accountability here. Can't believe the judge went with Summit's plan over all these concerns. Time to put pressure on them, I say!
I'M TOTALLY FURIOUS ABOUT THIS SALE!!! THESE RENT-STABILIZED APARTMENTS HAVE BEEN NEGLECTED FOR YEARS AND NOW SOME BIG CORP IS JUST GOING TO COME IN AND IGNORE THE PROBLEMS?!? I MEAN, I KNOW MAYOR MAMDANI TRIED TO DELAY THE DEAL BUT IT SEEMS LIKE JUDGE JONES WAS BLIND TO ALL THE ISSUES. I FEEL BAD FOR THESE TENANTS WHO ARE ALREADY STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET IN THESE SLOWLY FALLING APART BUILDINGS. WE NEED TO KEEP PRESSURING SUMMIT TO ACTUALLY FIX THOSE PROBLEMS RATHER THAN JUST TALKING ABOUT IT!
man this is crazy they're selling these apartments for like pennies on the dollar but now they gotta fix all the damage that was done to them it's just not right. I can imagine how crappy it must be living in one of these places with broken ceilings and mold everywhere. it's like they're going to get a fresh start or something, but what if summit doesn't follow through on their promises?
Ugh, can't believe this sale went through . I mean, 5k apartments in NYC? That's a lot of people getting screwed by corporate greed. The fact that they got away with ignoring all those code violations is just mind-boggling... like, what even is the point of having laws if you're just gonna let them ignore 'em? And don't even get me started on the whole "family ties" thing - it's just too much. It smells like a conflict of interest to me, and I'm not buying it (pun intended). The tenants deserve better than some shady company with questionable motives trying to swoop in and start collecting rent without fixing the problems... we need real change, not just empty promises
