'Kids can't buy them anywhere': how Pokémon cards became a stock market for millennials

I mean, have you seen the prices these rare cards are going for? Like, hundreds of pounds just for a simple card?! It's insane! My nephew was trying to get his hands on one of those new sets and he ended up having to pay an arm and a leg online. I'm like "Dude, what's wrong with you?" He said people were bidding thousands of dollars on it 🤑👀. And it's not just the cards themselves, it's the whole hype around them too. These influencers on YouTube are making it look so cool and exciting to collect and trade these cards, but really it's just about getting rich quick 💸😒. I don't blame the shops for trying to make a profit though, they do have to cover costs and all that. But still...it's kinda sad when you can't even get your hands on something as simple as a Pokémon card anymore 😔

I feel like we're seeing a classic case of FOMO (fear of missing out) gone wild 🤯. Everyone wants in on the action, and people are willing to go to crazy lengths to get their hands on those new cards. It's like they've lost sight of why Pokémon cards were ever cool in the first place - because it was about the fun, not just about making a quick buck 💸.

I think this phenomenon teaches us that when we prioritize profit over people (or in this case, children who want to play and collect), we can create some pretty unhealthy market dynamics 🚫. And let's be real, if you're going to make thousands of pounds from opening one pack, it's not exactly a level playing field for kids trying to join the fun.

We need to remember that true value comes from experiences and connections, not just from stuff 💕. So, what can we take away from this? Be careful what you prioritize in life, because if money becomes everything, it can lead to some pretty sad consequences 🤦‍♂️.

I'm so done with this whole thing 🤯👀... like if people can't even get their hands on new cards anymore it's just not cool anymore. And what's up with the social media influencers and YouTubers making a killing off of it? They're basically creating this hype machine that makes normal kids wanna break bank to get into the game... meanwhile, kids who actually grew up playing Pokémon are left high and dry 🤷‍♀️ https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-53011191
