Loop review – this warped tale of sexual fantasies could be wilder

The Unsettling Blurring of Desire and Madness in Loop's Warped Tale

Tanya-Loretta Dee's debut monologue for the production of "Loop" masterfully explores the fine line between infatuation and limerence, a darker and more destructive form of all-consuming desire. The play delves into Bex's fantasies, which serve as a coping mechanism for her tumultuous life, particularly when her fantasy prince, James, enters the scene.

However, despite the intriguing ideas at play, the production falls short in terms of intensity and emotional depth. The set design by Mydd Pharo creates an eerie atmosphere, but it feels somewhat controlled, never quite reaching the level of chaos and darkness hinted at beneath the surface. Dee's performance also seems restrained, never fully allowing herself to surrender to the madness that Bex embodies.

The problem lies in James, who is reduced to a one-dimensional caricature by Dee's portrayal. This makes it challenging for audiences to invest in Bex's suffocating infatuation with him. As a result, the play's exploration of the blurring of desire and madness feels somewhat shallow.

A more intense approach would have allowed the production to truly capture the essence of Bex's character, but director Sophie Ellerby seems hesitant to push things further. The lighting design by Cheng Keng does add an air of unease, but it feels insufficient to make up for the lack of depth in the script and performance.

Despite these shortcomings, Dee's rapport with the audience is undeniable, particularly through her witty asides. Her portrayal of Bex's mother is also noteworthy, bringing a sense of depth and complexity to the character. The supporting cast, including Greta, brings a welcome respite from the monotony of James's one-dimensional presence.

Ultimately, "Loop" feels like a missed opportunity, with its promising ideas and talented performances not quite living up to their full potential. With some further refinement and a willingness to push things into the darker territories hinted at beneath the surface, this production could have truly explored the complexities of Bex's character and the blurring of desire and madness.

I'm kinda disappointed with how "Loop" turned out, you know? They had all these heavy themes about desire and madness but it felt kinda tame 🤔. Like, I get that Sophie Ellerby was trying to create this eerie atmosphere, but the set design didn't feel super immersive for me, it just seemed kinda... controlled 😐. And Bex's character, Tanya-Loretta Dee did a good job with her performance, but James felt like such an empty vessel 🤷‍♀️. I mean, what if they'd taken more risks and really dug into the darker stuff? It could've been so much more intense and thought-provoking. As it is, I feel like they just missed the mark 🔇

I think the play "Loop" has an interesting concept, but it kinda fell flat for me 🤔. I mean, Tanya-Loretta Dee did a great job with her performance, especially with those witty asides 😂. But James felt so one-dimensional to me - like he was just a prop in Bex's fantasy world 📦. And the set design was creepy, but not quite as intense as it could've been 👻.

I think what really let down the play was that it didn't go far enough into the darker side of things 💔. It felt like Sophie Ellerby was holding back on some deeper themes and emotions 🤐. And don't get me wrong, Cheng Keng's lighting design added a nice touch of unease 🔦, but it wasn't enough to make up for the lack of depth in the script.

Still, I appreciate the effort put into this production 💪. With some tweaks and refinements, I think they could've made it truly special 🎉. As it stands, though, it feels like a missed opportunity 😔.

I'm totally baffled by "Loop" 🤯, I mean, who needs all that intensity and emotional depth when we've got politicians promising to bring stability and calm to our lives? 😂 But seriously, it's like they took some interesting ideas and just...phoned it in. I'd rather see a production that tackles the real issues, like the blurred lines between ambition and madness in politics 🤦‍♂️. The fact that James is reduced to a one-dimensional caricature just shows how shallow our politicians can be. And don't even get me started on the lighting design - it's like they're trying to make us feel uneasy about something, but I'd rather have some honest talk about the state of our country 🌎. Overall, "Loop" feels like a missed opportunity to really explore some complex themes, and that's just not how politics works 💔.

The more I think about it, the more I'm like "what if" 🤔 - what if they took a bigger risk with the performance and didn't hold back on the emotions? It feels like they were trying to make this dark fantasy feel edgy but ended up being too calculated instead. Dee's still super talented tho! And that set design by Mydd Pharo is straight fire 🔥...but yeah, it's all about striking a balance between atmosphere and intensity in a production. Too little, too much, or just right? That's the question 🎭

omg i was literally on the edge of my seat watching loop and i felt like it was missing something 😩🤯 tanya-loretta dee is defo talented but her performance feels so... held back 🙅‍♀️ i mean bex's character is all about that wild and crazy energy but dee just can't quite tap into that 🔥 it's like she's stuck in neutral mode instead of shifting gears full throttle 🚗🔴 the script needs some serious tweaking too, james feels like a cardboard cutout and his presence kinda brings the whole thing down ⛔️ but greta is amazing and dee's asides are still lolz 🤣 overall i'm just really disappointed because loop had so much potential

aww, i feel you 💔🎭, it sounds like "Loop" had so much potential but didn't quite reach its full emotional depth 🤕. that one-dimensional portrayal of James is major letdown 😒. i loved Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance tho, she has such a great energy with the audience 👍 and her witty asides are everything 😂👏. still, it's frustrating when we see hints of something deeper but don't get to explore it fully 🤔. maybe next time will be different? 🤞💫

🤔 I was really hyped for Loop, but it felt like the whole thing got lost in translation 📺. The set design was straight fire 🔥, but it didn't quite match the intensity of the story. Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance was on point, but she needed to dig deeper into Bex's psyche to make the character truly relatable 😩. James just felt like a placeholder, you know? 🤷‍♀️ I love how Cheng Keng's lighting added that eerie vibe though 💡! Overall, it was a solid production with some standout moments, but it didn't quite reach its full potential 🎭👀

omg i was so invested in loop 🤯 but now that i think about it, i can see how they missed the mark 🙅‍♀️ tanya lorettas performance is def on point tho 😍 and that set design by mydd pharo does give me the heebie jeebies 💀 but james was like waaay too one dimensional 😴 for bexs sake!!! 😩 anyway i still loved loop and can't wait to see what sophie ellerby does next 🎬

i think dee's portrayal of bex is really interesting but i agree that james feels kinda one-dimensional 🤔. like, what's the backstory on that dude? how did he become this fantasy for bex? giving him more depth would've made the whole thing more believable and intense. and yeah, the lighting design was cool, but it felt a bit surface-level too 😐. i love dee's energy in her asides tho! 💁‍♀️

I'm meh about this one 🤷‍♀️... I mean, I love Tanya-Loretta Dee's acting skills as much as the next person, but her portrayal of Bex felt kinda... safe? 😐 Like, she was talented and all, but it wasn't like she was fully committing to the character. And don't even get me started on James 🙄 - I mean, who is this guy supposed to be? A love interest or a prop for Bex's emotional rollercoaster? 🤔 It felt so shallow, you know? 🤷‍♀️

And I'm all for experimentation and pushing boundaries in art, but sometimes I feel like it's just too much, you know? 😩 Like, "Oh, let's add some darkness and unease" without actually making it impactful. 💔

man i feel so meh about loop its got some great ideas but the execution is kinda meh too 😐 the set design is straight outta a horror movie though i love how it tries to capture that eerie atmosphere but yeah the lighting could be way more intense to match the darkness of bex's fantasies 🌑 and omg tanya-loretta dee's performance is so underrated she brings so much depth to her character even when she's just being all witty and stuff 🤣 but idk man i feel like james should've been way more complex 🙄 a one-dimensional guy cant hold up to bex's intensity lol

I felt kinda underwhelmed by "Loop" 🤔. I mean, Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance was on point, no doubt about it 💁‍♀️! But for me, the production just didn't reach that dark, crazy place it seemed like it wanted to go 🌑. The set design was super eerie and stuff, but it felt kinda... controlled? I don't know, maybe I'm just too invested in things going all out dramatic 🎭.

And yeah, James felt like a total caricature 🤡. I get what they were trying to do with the character, but it didn't quite work for me. The lighting design was cool and all, but it wasn't enough to make up for the lack of depth in the script and performance. It's like, you gotta lean into the crazy a bit more, you know? 🤯

I gotta say, I'm kinda disappointed with "Loop" 🤔. I mean, the set design by Mydd Pharo is pretty cool, but it feels like they're holding back on the chaos and darkness. Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance is solid, don't get me wrong, but she's not allowed to fully unleash Bex's madness 🤯. And James, oh man... he's just so one-dimensional. I feel like I'm supposed to be invested in Bex's infatuation with him, but it's just not there 💔. The lighting design by Cheng Keng is a good try, though 👻. They're definitely going for that eerie vibe, even if it doesn't quite make up for the script and performance shortcomings 🤷‍♀️. With a bit more intensity and willingness to push boundaries, "Loop" could've been something special 🔥. As it stands, I think it's just a missed opportunity 😐.

I'm really disappointed with how "Loop" turned out 🤔. I mean, Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance was on point, but it felt like she was holding back, you know? Like she was waiting for permission to get crazy 😂. And don't even get me started on James... he was so one-dimensional, it was like they just phoned it in 📞. A more intense approach would've made all the difference, imo. But hey, at least the set design and lighting were cool 😎. Still, I think it's a shame that "Loop" didn't take the risks it could've taken to really explore Bex's character... maybe next time 🤞.

I gotta say, I went in expecting a real wild ride with "Loop" but what I got was just...meh 🤔. Don't get me wrong, Tanya-Loretta Dee is a total star and her performance as Bex has some serious potential, but it's like Sophie Ellerby and the crew are holding back on purpose 😒. The set design looks super eerie at first, but once you're past that initial creepiness, it just feels...safe? Where's the chaos? Where's the madness? It's all just so...controlled 🚫.

And can we talk about James for a second? I mean, I get what they were going for with the whole "one-dimensional caricature" thing, but honestly, it feels like he's just there to make Bex look even more messed up 😳. Like, where's his own agency in this story? He's just this prop that Bex uses to cope with her own issues 🤦‍♀️.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the little moments of wit and humor from Dee's character, but it feels like they're trying to distract us from the bigger issues at hand 🎬. And those lighting design choices? More like "we want you to feel uneasy, but not too much" 😒. Just sayin'.
