Loop review – this warped tale of sexual fantasies could be wilder

"Loop" is a thought-provoking debut monologue that delves into the dark undercurrents of infatuation. Tanya-Loretta Dee shines in her portrayal of Bex, a young woman whose sexual fantasies take on a life of their own. As she navigates a complex web of desire and obsession, Dee masterfully conveys the fragile line between fantasy and reality.

The story centers around Bex's tumultuous relationship with James, a middle-class counterpart to her own desires. At first, James represents Bex's ideal fantasy prince, but as their connection frays, Bex's fantasies consume her, driving a wedge between her real life and the people who care about her.

While Dee delivers a compelling performance, she struggles to fully inhabit the complexity of Bex's emotions. The supporting cast fares slightly better, particularly in the portrayal of Bex's distant and disturbed mother, which proves to be the most intriguing aspect of the production.

The set design by Mydd Pharo creates an unsettling atmosphere, but it feels somewhat at odds with Dee's performance. Cheng Keng's lighting design is more effective in establishing a sense of unease, yet even this cannot fully compensate for the script's limitations. Director Sophie Ellerby has the potential to push the production into darker, more intense territory, but ultimately, "Loop" feels like an undercooked exploration of its subject matter.

With only 29 days remaining at Theatre503 in London, those with a taste for psychological drama may find this thought-provoking monologue worth a visit. Just be prepared for some uneven pacing and a lack of intensity that could have elevated the production to greater heights.

😊 I just watched Loop 🤯 and I'm still trying to process it 💭 Tanya-Loretta Dee is 👏 amazing as Bex, but I felt like she was missing something 🔮 her character's emotions were hard to read 😐 and the pacing was a bit all over the place ⏱️ Mydd Pharo's set design was super creepy 🕷️ but Cheng Keng's lighting was on point 🌑🔦 Sophie Ellerby, I'm rooting for you 💪 with 29 days left in London, I hope you can bring this production to the next level 🔥💫

omg i felt so drained after watching "loop" 🤯 it's like tanya-lorettta dee is trying to convey all these heavy emotions but sometimes it feels like she's struggling to keep up 💔 and the supporting cast needs more development too, especially that mom character 😂 anyway i loved the set design and lighting it was super creepy and eerie 😱 but yeah director sophie ellerby has potential for sure 🤞 gotta give it another watch tho

I don’t usually comment but I felt like the writer missed the point about how the director's potential is what makes me wanna see it live 🤔. If Sophie Ellerby can really push this story into those darker territories, it could be game-changing. And Tanya-Loretta Dee does shine in her role, even if she doesn’t fully inhabit Bex's emotions at times... that supporting mom's portrayal was a real standout for me 👵. I guess what’s tripping me up is how they balance the fantasy and reality, feels kinda inconsistent 🎭. Would love to see it live with the set design and lighting just right ⚡️.

I just watched "Loop" at Theatre503 and I gotta say, Tanya-Loretta Dee is on fire 🔥! She totally nails this dark complex character Bex, even if she doesn't quite take us on a full emotional rollercoaster. The set design by Mydd Pharo is super eerie, though 🌑. What really got me was the supporting cast, especially that creepy mom - my skin's still crawling just thinking about it 😂. I get what Sophie Ellerby's trying to do here, but sometimes less is more, you know? Still, if you're a fan of psychological drama, give "Loop" a try - it's not half bad 📺!

🤔 I think what's most fascinating about "Loop" is how it shows us that our darkest desires can sometimes be the ones that consume us, but in doing so, it also highlights how hard it can be to separate fantasy from reality 🌫️. It's like when we're chasing something we really want, we get caught up in the excitement and lose sight of what's truly important. I mean, Bex's relationship with James is all about that fantasy world, but at what cost? Her mom's character, on the other hand, shows us how our fears can sometimes become self-fulfilling prophecies... anyway, it just makes me think we gotta be careful not to get too lost in our own fantasies 😬

🤔 "Loop" is like that toxic ex you can't stop thinking about, but instead of just being annoying, it's also kinda interesting because it's super flawed 😂. Tanya-Loretta Dee does her thing well, but it feels like she's stuck in neutral - I get what she's trying to do with Bex, but I'm still not invested 🤷‍♀️. The set design is pretty meh, it's like they took a bunch of dark corridors and said "good enough" 🚮. And don't even get me started on the script - it's like Sophie Ellerby had some cool ideas but didn't know how to execute them 🤦‍♀️. It's still worth a watch if you're into that sorta thing, just don't expect it to blow your mind 💥.

I felt kinda meh about "Loop" myself 🤔...the whole concept got me intrigued, but like they said, it's an undercooked exploration of Bex's dark side 😐. Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance was great, don't get me wrong, but I think she deserved more to work with in terms of script and pacing ⏱️. That set design was super trippy, but it kinda clashed with the emotional impact of the story 🌑. The lighting did help create an unsettling atmosphere, though 💡. What really disappointed me was how the supporting cast got relegated to the side 👥...I wanted more depth in their characters too! Maybe the director just needs a bit more time to perfect it? 🤞

I think "Loop" is like that movie where you're all invested in the characters, but just can't quite put your finger on why it's not working 🤔. For me, Tanya-Loretta Dee shines as Bex, she's got this intensity that makes you feel her emotions even if the script doesn't always back it up 💪. The set design is super creepy though, like something straight out of a horror flick 🎃. I think the director has some potential but needs to fine-tune the pacing and maybe even add more tension to really make it pop 🔥. Still worth checking out if you're into that psychological drama vibe 👍

I just watched "Loop" last night and I gotta say, it's super thought-provoking 🤯. The way Tanya-Loretta Dee plays Bex is so raw and emotional, but at times I felt like she was stuck in a rut, you know? Like, her character's feelings are really complex and multi-layered, but the script doesn't always give her enough to work with.

I also love how the set design and lighting come together to create this super unsettling atmosphere 😱. It's like, you can totally feel the unease in the air. But, I wish they'd pushed the boundaries a bit more, you know? Like, really explored the darker aspects of Bex's obsession instead of just scratching the surface.

I mean, 29 days left at Theatre503 and it's already getting some buzz, but for me, it felt like an undercooked exploration 🤔. Still, if you're into psychological dramas and are looking for something to keep your mind buzzing, "Loop" is worth checking out 📚.

omg i just saw this thread like 3 days ago but it's already dead lol anyway, i gotta agree with the reviewer about Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance - she was so good at conveying Bex's emotions but sometimes felt a bit one-dimensional? i also loved the set design by Mydd Pharo, that atmosphere was SO unsettling 🌑😳. and yeah, the supporting cast did a great job with the mom role. what really bugged me though was how much potential "Loop" had to be more intense, but it just fell flat at times 💔🎭

I just watched "Loop" last night and I'm still trying to process my thoughts about it 🤯. As much as I loved Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance, I couldn't help but feel like she was missing out on some deeper emotional resonance from the character. Like, Bex is so complex, you know? She's got all these dark desires and fantasies that are just... simmering underneath the surface.

And yeah, Sophie Ellerby has a great eye for atmosphere – those lighting designs were straight up creepy 💀! But at the same time, I felt like the pacing was all over the place. Some scenes drag on too long, while others feel rushed. It's like they're trying to fit all these themes and emotions into one 60-minute monologue.

But you know what really got me? The ending 🤔. I mean, it's like... Bex is stuck in this cycle of desire and obsession, and we just kind of... leave her there 🤷‍♀️. It feels so underwhelming after all the tension that's built up throughout the show.

Still, if you're into psychological dramas and are looking for something thought-provoking, "Loop" might be worth checking out. Just don't expect it to blow your mind or anything 😎.

I just watched "Loop" and I gotta say it's like looking into the mirror 🕯️ - it's uncomfortable, but you can't look away. Tanya-Loretta Dee does an amazing job playing Bex, but sometimes I felt like she was struggling to tap into that raw emotion 🤔. The set design is super unsettling, and Cheng Keng's lighting is spot on, but for me, the pacing just didn't quite add up ⏰. It feels like they're holding back on some of the darker themes, which would've really taken it to the next level 🔥. Still, if you're a fan of psychological dramas, it's worth giving a go - just don't expect everything to be completely polished 💪.
