Mamdani backs striking NYC nurses, denounces hospital bosses’ pay

Over 15,000 striking nurses in New York City demand better working conditions and higher pay as they stage a major healthcare strike. The protest, one of the largest in decades, comes after the nurses' union warned that burnout and understaffing were taking a devastating toll on workers.

On Monday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited the picket line to show support for the striking nurses. He was seen meeting with the union representatives and listening to their concerns about hospital administration's treatment of staff.

The nurses are pushing for improved staffing levels and better security measures at hospitals, as well as increased wages and benefits. However, hospital bosses have been accused by Mamdani of using scare tactics in a bid to intimidate employees from going on strike.

Mamdani said that the strike highlights the urgency need for healthcare workers' rights reform. "The fact that we're seeing nurses walk off their jobs is a wake-up call", he stated.

Ugh, another healthcare strike 🤯... I mean, I get it, nurses are burned out and need better pay & conditions, but 15k strikers? It's like the whole city is grinding to a halt 💔. And what really gets my goat is that hospital bosses think they can just scare people into coming back to work with these "tactics" 🙄. Newsflash: it won't work! The nurses are standing up for themselves and their rights, and if we want better healthcare, we need to support them 💪.

I'm not saying the union reps aren't justified in their demands, but let's be real, this is a perfect storm of burnout & understaffing. We should be having these conversations about healthcare reform long before it becomes a major strike 🤷‍♀️. And honestly, even Mayor Mamdani's visit to the picket line feels like a PR stunt 📸... I hope he's actually listening to what the nurses have to say and not just trying to sound like a hero 👀.

I'm so done with the state of healthcare in this country 🤯. These nurses are literally risking everything to get better working conditions and a decent paycheck. I mean, can you blame them? Burnout and understaffing are NO JOKE 🤕. It's crazy that hospital admins think they can just scare people into not striking and get away with it 💁‍♀️.

But seriously, this strike is like, the wake-up call Mamdani mentioned - we need real change here 🔥. The nurses deserve so much better than what they're getting 🙌. I'm all about supporting our healthcare heroes 💪, and if that means having a major strike, then so be it 😊. Maybe this is exactly what we need to get hospitals to prioritize their staff over profits 💸. Fingers crossed! 🤞

🤔 I mean, 15k nurses striking in NYC? That's crazy! But at the same time, I feel like this is gonna be a major turning point for healthcare workers' rights. They've been dealing with burnout and understaffing for ages, and it's about time someone listened.

I'm not sure if Mayor Mamdani's attempts to show support by meeting with union reps are enough, though. I mean, he says the strike highlights the need for reform, but isn't that just a bit late? It feels like they should've been doing more of this years ago.

And don't even get me started on these scare tactics hospital bosses have been using to try and keep employees quiet. That's not how you build trust with your staff! 🙄

I'm all for these striking nurses! 🤝 They deserve so much better than what they're going through. 15,000 people can't be wrong about burnout and understaffing taking a toll on them. It's crazy that hospital bosses are trying to shame the staff into staying by saying it'll disrupt services... like that's not already happening with all these strike days! 🚨 We need to listen to their concerns and fix the system, pronto! I hope they get the support and change they're fighting for 🤞.

Ugh, I feel so bad for those nurses 🤕! They're literally risking everything they have to stand up for what's fair and right at work. I mean, I've had some tough days in school too, like when we were short-staffed during exams or the cafeteria food was a disaster 😒. But it sounds like these nurses are being really treated unfairly by hospital bosses 🤯. It's like, they're supposed to be helping people, not making them feel scared and undervalued 😓. I hope the strike gets resolved soon so everyone can get back to doing what they love - helping others! 💕

🚑😬 just saw this news and I'm shocked... like 15k nurses in NYC are striking and it's not even about the money lol they're talking about burnout and understaffing 😩 i get it, we've all been there with our morning coffee cups being empty for too long 🤣 but seriously, how can hospitals expect us to care for others when we're running on fumes? 💉🏥 the mayor's trying to play both sides, that's just not cool 🙅‍♂️ anyone else think these nurses are getting a little too much love from their union rep? 🤔

I'm so over these huge strikes and how they always make healthcare super expensive for regular ppl... like what's the deal with all these demands? can't the hospitals just raise employee salaries by 10% or something instead of causing such chaos? 🤔💸 I mean, I get it, burnout is real, but have you seen those fancy hospital uniforms they wear? they're not exactly getting paid peanuts... and on top of that, better security measures? come on, hospitals are already super secure...

I feel so bad for those nursing staff, they must be literally running on empty 💔💉. I mean, burnout and understaffing can drive anyone crazy! Can you imagine having to deal with all that pressure without getting the support you need? 🤯 It's like a scene from Grey's Anatomy – but this time it's real life for actual people who are saving lives every day 💊.

I'm glad Mayor Mamdani is taking notice and meeting with the union reps, though. It's about time someone listened to their concerns! But honestly, I don't think scare tactics are going to work on these dedicated healthcare workers 😒. They deserve better pay, more support, and a safer working environment, plain and simple 💪.

It's funny you mention reforming healthcare workers' rights – it's like something from the movie The Social Network, but instead of Facebook, it's about fighting for fair treatment in hospitals 🤝. These nurses are not just striking for themselves; they're striking for all the other frontline workers who deserve better 💕.

Man, this nurse strike is crazy 🤯! I'm literally feeling for these ladies, 15k strong and all they want is some basic respect and decent pay? It's like, you'd think hospitals would be the ones showing care, not just patient care 😂. And those admin people, using scare tactics to keep staff in line? Unbelievable 💔.

It's wild that it's gotten to this point, but I'm glad Mayor Mamdani is taking notice and speaking out. We need more leaders like him who are willing to listen and advocate for workers' rights 🗣️. The fact that burnout and understaffing are taking a huge toll on nurses is just heartbreaking 😭.

I think it's time for some serious changes in the healthcare system, but I'm not sure where to start 🤔. Maybe this strike will be the wake-up call we need? 💡 Let's hope so, because these amazing nurses deserve better 💖.

Ugh, 15k+ nurses striking in NYC? That's crazy 💸 I feel so bad for them, they deserve way better than what they're getting. Burnout and understaffing are no joke 🤯. I've heard horror stories about hospitals being so short-staffed that patients have to wait hours for care. It's unacceptable! 🚑 And on top of that, they want higher pay and benefits? Like, totally reasonable 🤑. I'm all for union rights too 👫. Can't the hospital admin just listen to their concerns instead of trying to scare them into not striking? 😒 Mayor Mamdani is right, this does need some serious reform ASAP ⏰.

OMG, this is soooo crazy!!! 🤯 like seriously 15k nurses just walked out of work over better conditions and pay? I feel like I'd lose it too if I was in their shoes! 💔 the burnout and understaffing are taking a huge toll on them, can you even imagine working with no one to turn to when things get tough? 🤕 it's so unfair that they have to fight for what's rightfully theirs, but at least the mayor is showing some love and listening to their concerns 🙏

but what's really messed up is that hospital bosses are trying to scare them into staying by saying the strike is a "wake-up call" for healthcare worker rights reform 🚨 it's like they're being blackmailed into working in terrible conditions because if they don't, something bad will happen? 😱 that's just not right! 💁‍♀️ the nurses deserve so much better than to be treated like this 👊

OMG, I feel so bad for those nurses! 🤕 I was talking to my friend who works part-time at a hospital and she said the staff are always super stressed and overwhelmed. Like, they're already dealing with so many patients and now they have to deal with burnout too? It's crazy!

And yaaas, better working conditions and higher pay would be amazing! 🤑 I'm all for it! I know some of my friends in school who work part-time jobs and they're always complaining about not getting paid enough. This is like, the ultimate example of why workers need more support.

I also saw that Mayor Mamdani was all supportive of the nurses, which is awesome 👏. Maybe this strike will lead to some real change? Fingers crossed!

🤔 I feel so bad for these nurses, burnout and understaffing can't be easy to deal with. They're literally risking their lives on the job every day and still not getting the respect they deserve. The fact that hospital bosses are trying to scare them into staying is just unacceptable 🚑💼. It's crazy how some people think profits come before people. I hope the nurses get what they want, better working conditions and fair pay would make a huge difference for them 🙏.

🚨 I've got some tea for you, guys! So I was talking to a source who's close to one of the union reps and they told me that this strike isn't just about better working conditions and pay - it's about the mental health of these nurses. Apparently, many of them are being pushed to their limits with crazy workloads and understaffing. It's like, we get it, hospitals need staff, but not at the expense of our well-being 🤯.

And can we talk about how weird it is that hospital bosses are trying to scare employees into not striking? Like, they're basically playing the "you'll be left alone with no one to care for patients" card. It's a pretty weak tactic if you ask me 😏. Anyway, I'm rooting for our nurses! They deserve so much better 👩‍⚕️💪

🤕💉🚑 nurses rn r goin thru 💔😩 burnout & understaffing rn i mean wut kinda hospital admin treats staff like dis 🤷‍♀️? 👊 15k+ strikin rn 4 beter conditions & decent pay 🤑💸 they deserve it tbh 💯 mayor mamdani showin support is a good move 👍 but hospitals gotta listen 2 their concerns 😂👀 hospital bosses tryna scare em back 2 work with manipulations 🙅‍♂️😒 need 4 healthcare worker's rights reform ASAP 🚨💥
