Mamdani wants 'transit ambassadors' β€” not NYPD β€” to get homeless people out of subways

Ugh 🀯 I'm literally so done with politicians thinking they can just swoop in and dismantle a program that's already making a difference πŸ’” I mean, come on Zohran Mamdani, you're trying to be all like "let's take away the cops" 🚫 but have you even thought about what's gonna happen to these people?! πŸ€• They're not just some random homeless person, they're people with SEVERE mental health issues πŸ’‰ who need help and support, not just some trans ambassador dude πŸ™„ And don't even get me started on Dave Giffen's point about outreach workers – can you imagine if he had to deal with someone in crisis and there was no one there to help them?! 😱 It's all so emotional and frustrating πŸ’”

omg u think a police officer or some armed cop is gonna just magically make ppl w severe mental health issues better ? no way they dont need force & hospitalization to get their life together. its all about resources & prioritizing help over intimidation. and btw what even r the chances that someone w mental illness will attack u on subways lol? this approach is all about not having a clue about how 2 handle crisis situations

I'm so done with how everything is being handled here... πŸ€―β€β™‚οΈ I mean, come on! They're basically saying that the PATH program isn't working and now they're gonna get rid of police officers? Like, what's next? Getting rid of the EMTs too? It makes no sense to me. We need people with expertise in mental health to help deal with these situations, not just some civilians who might not know what to do.

And Stettin is all about that "expert decides" thing... like, how are we supposed to trust that these experts aren't gonna make the same mistakes as before? I mean, city data shows that most people with mental illness in the subways are victims of violence themselves... so don't they deserve some protection? It's just not fair.

And what about those 600 people who have already been helped by the PATH program? Are we supposed to just forget about them now? It feels like politics is winning out over actual solutions here... πŸ€•

I'm so worried about this πŸ€•. I mean, the PATH program has been doing a lot of good, right? Removing people with severe mental health issues from the subway system and getting them treatment is a huge step forward. And now, it's all being threatened just because some folks think having police officers there doesn't work well with outreach workers? It's like, come on! The police are trained to handle emergencies, they can provide assistance too! 🚨 What's wrong with having them around? I don't get why the opponents of the PATH program are so against it. And what about all those people who just need help and are being held back by the system? We're not solving homelessness here, we're making it worse... 😩

I'm worried about Zohran Mamdani's plans to dismantle the PATH program πŸ˜•. As someone who's lived through some of NYC's rough times, I know that mental health is a huge issue, and we can't just 'toughen up' on homeless people. The system is already overwhelmed, and taking away trained outreach workers just sounds like more chaos 🚫. What about all the people who need help? We should be investing in solutions like this program, not scrapping them because it's 'too soft'. And what about those 'transit ambassadors'? Are they really equipped to deal with mental health crises? I don't think so πŸ€”. This just feels like more of the same old broken approach πŸ’”.

I'm totally lost on this one πŸ€”. I mean, I get why you wanna help homeless people, right? But then there's this debate between having cops and civilians to deal with them... it feels like they're both just gonna make the problem worse, don't you think? πŸ˜• Like, if you take out a police officer, what's stopping someone from getting hurt again? On the other hand, if you put in more cops, aren't you just scaring away people who need help? 🚫 I'm just not sure how to feel about it... can we just, like, figure this out already? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
