Man arrested for stabbing at Manhattan subway station, police say

Man Arrested in Brutal Stabbing Attack at Manhattan Subway Station

A 28-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday morning, charged with assault for his role in a violent stabbing attack that left a 51-year-old victim injured. The incident occurred last week at the Broadway-Lafayette station in SoHo, where two strangers got into an argument before one of them attacked the other.

According to police, Dariel Castillo approached the 51-year-old man and stabbed him multiple times in the back. First responders rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released in stable condition.

Castillo, who lives in a New York City Housing Authority building in East Harlem, is believed to have acted on impulse, rather than out of any premeditated plan. Police officials say that Castillo and the victim were complete strangers who simply got into a heated argument before things escalated.

The incident has raised concerns about rising transit crime in the city. According to data released by the NYPD, crimes involving transit are up around 10% so far this year compared to the same point last year. Felony assaults make up the majority of these incidents, with over 50 reported through February 1st.

In a particularly disturbing incident that occurred just hours after the stabbing attack, another teenager was allegedly stabbed on a J train in the same precinct. The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was also taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition after being stabbed in his buttocks.

As crime continues to surge on New York City's transit system, officials are urging residents and visitors alike to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.

Dude I'm like 10 years younger than the guy who got stabbed, but I'm pretty sure I'd be a suspect in a robbery too if I walked into a subway station with my hands in my pockets. Like, what's the deal with that? 🀣 And now we're seeing more and more of these attacks happening on our trains... yeah, it's like we should just carry umbrellas or something to protect ourselves from all you crazy people out there! πŸ₯Ά But seriously though, 10% increase in transit crimes is wild. Can't say I'm surprised tho, considering how sketchy some parts of the city can be at night. Anyway, let's hope our transit cops get a handle on it and we can all just chill until then 😎

Ugh this stabbing attack is crazy 🀯! Like, who just starts stabbing someone on the subway? πŸš‚πŸ˜± It's so scary for everyone else too, especially commuters who are trying to get from point A to point B without getting hurt or mugged. I'm glad the victim survived but it's still super disturbing that this happened in broad daylight. And now another teenager got stabbed just hours later? Like, what is going on with our city right now? 😀 We need to do something about the rising transit crime and make sure everyone feels safe when they're using public transportation πŸš—πŸ’‘

🚨 This is just getting out of hand 🀯. Like, what's going on with these subway stations? One day it's a stabbing, the next day some teenager gets stabbed too πŸ€•. Can't we focus on fixing our tech instead of dealing with this transit chaos πŸ’»? I mean, have you seen those new contactless payment systems? Not working right 🚫. And don't even get me started on the whole "smart" subway system that's supposed to improve safety but really just seems like a bunch of hype πŸ”΄. Can't we invest in something that actually works instead of trying to revolutionize everything at once? πŸ˜’

Ugh, another crazy stabbing incident on the subway πŸ€―πŸš‚... I'm not surprised it happened though, with the city getting more crowded and chaotic by the day. Like, what's going on with some people? Can't they just get along? 😩 And 10% increase in transit crimes is insane... that's a lot of young people to be carrying knives around πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

But at the same time, I feel for the victim who got stabbed. It could've been anyone, anywhere, and it's just... so senseless πŸ€•. And what's with all these incidents happening in one precinct? Is there something going on that we don't know about? Shouldn't we be seeing more resources sent to that area or something? πŸ’‘

Aww man, that's so scary 😱! You can't even go about your day without worrying about being attacked in a crowded subway station. My heart goes out to the victim who got stabbed last week πŸ€•... 51 years old, and for what? It's just senseless violence πŸ’”. And now another teenager is going through this too 😩... 15 years old! What's wrong with our city, right now?! 🚫πŸ’₯

πŸ€• This stabbing attack is a wake-up call for our city... I'm not sure what's going on with all these violent incidents happening in our subway stations. It's like people have lost their minds or something πŸ™„. And 10% increase in transit crime? That's crazy! What can we do to stop this? We need to look at ways to address the root cause of these problems, not just slap a band-aid on it πŸ’‰. Maybe some form of community outreach program or mental health support would make a difference... I don't know, but something needs to be done πŸ€”

πŸ€” gotta think about this one... people gettin crazy in public places all the time πŸš‚πŸ’¨ i mean, can't blame Dariel Castillo for losin' his cool or whatever happened 😩 he was just another human bein' with a bad day or somethin' right? 51-year-old dude got stabbed like, what even is that? 🀯 but we don't know the whole story here... maybe Castillo had a history of mental health issues or somethin' and just snapped πŸ’” instead of takin' it to the authorities or findin' another way to deal with his emotions πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ anyway, NYPD's gotta step up their game or something 'cause these attacks are gettin outta hand 🚨 what's the solution here? more cops on the trains? mental health support for people in crisis? idk, but we need somethin' to stop this violence 😑

πŸ’‘ just got thinking about this stabbing thingy... did you know that NYC has seen a 10% increase in transit crimes already this year? πŸ“Š That's a lot of people getting hurt on their way to work or school! πŸš‚ And it's not just the subway, either - felony assaults are up over 50 on the J train alone. 😬 But here's the thing: most victims aren't even strangers... like in this case where two random people got into a fight that ended with one guy stabbing the other in the back. πŸ’‰ anyway, think we need more mental health resources and de-escalation training for transit cops? πŸ€”

Ugh, another day, another crazy story about NYC getting more and more violent 🀯. Like, what's wrong with people nowadays? Can't we all just get along? I mean, a stabbing at the subway? What's next? A shooting on the F train? 😱 I'm so sick of hearing about these incidents and how they're "isolated" events. No way, they're connected – crime is just getting more and more brazen in this city. And don't even get me started on the fact that there are already 50+ reported assaults on the transit system so far this year... 10% increase? Are you kidding me? We need to step up security or something 🚫. I'm not saying it's all one person's fault, but some people just seem to think they can do whatever they want and get away with it πŸ˜’. Anyway, glad the victims are okay (so far) and that someone is being held accountable... but this incident just feels like another symptom of a larger problem πŸ€”.

🚨 This stabbing at the subway station is really frightening - like, how can someone just come up behind you and stab you for no reason? 🀯 I was on the subway last year and saw this guy talking to himself, just standing there staring off into space... I thought he might be okay, but now I think about it, maybe he was planning something 😟. Anyway, I'm glad the victim is stable, but 10% increase in transit crime is a big deal πŸ“Š. We need to do more to keep our subways safe πŸ’‘, like increasing security cameras or having more police presence πŸš”. And what's up with all these teen stabbings? Are they just getting into fights at school or something? πŸ˜• Anyway, we should all be looking out for each other on the subway πŸ‘€
