Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that the club would sell defender Marc Guehi in January if his asking price is met. The 25-year-old England international is out of contract this summer and Manchester City have emerged as contenders to sign him during the transfer window.
Palace blocked a proposed ยฃ35m move to Liverpool last summer, but risk losing Guehi for nothing at the end of the season. City's interest in Guehi has progressed following injuries to defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias during Sunday's draw against Chelsea.
"I'm not naive," said Glasner. "If a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen." The club would prioritize their financial situation over sports considerations if the asking price is met.
Glasner also stated that Palace have already rejected several offers for Guehi in the past, but were unable to play him out of his contract. "If you see the financial situation, it's very important," Glasner said.
Manchester City are among several European clubs interested in signing Guehi on a free transfer, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid also showing interest. The England defender can sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club from this month.
Glasner acknowledged that Guehi is an important player for Palace, but the club's financial situation takes precedence over sports considerations if a suitable offer is made to City.
