‘Marty Supreme’ is a masterpiece you’ll never want to watch again - Detroit Metro Times

"Watching Marty Supreme is like being trapped in a never-ending nightmare from which you can't wake up. The film's protagonist, Timothée Chalamet's Marty Mauser, is a deeply unpleasant character whose narcissism and self-absorption are suffocating. As the movie unfolds, we're taken on an episodic journey into Marty's world of professional ping pong, where he navigates a high-stakes landscape of glamorous stars, ruthless gangsters, and shotgun-toting farmers.

Director Josh Safdie's technical brilliance is on full display here, crafting a film that feels like a claustrophobic puzzle box. The movie is an exercise in emotional intensity, with Marty's inner turmoil radiating outwards like a toxic cloud. You'll be on edge from start to finish, unsure whether you're invested in Marty's quest for ping pong dominance or repelled by his obnoxiousness.

The film asks profound questions about the American dream and the emptiness that lies at its core. Is it possible to find meaning and connection in a world that seems determined to crush our spirits? Safdie leaves no easy answers, instead opting for an uncomfortable truth: we're all just trying to get by, even if it means sacrificing our own integrity along the way.

Despite (or perhaps because of) Marty's repellent nature, Chalamet gives a masterclass performance that's both captivating and unsettling. As the credits roll, you'll be left breathless and disturbed – not in a good way. Watching Marty Supreme is an experience you won't soon forget, but one that will leave you questioning your own values and moral compass.

Grade: A"

I just watched Marty Supreme and I'm still trying to process my emotions 🤯. The film is like a wild ride that's hard to shake off - it's intense and uncomfortable at the same time 😬. Timothée Chalamet's performance as Marty Mauser is mind-blowing, but let's be real, the dude can be super cringeworthy at times 😳. I'm not sure if I'd call it a masterclass performance, more like a "wow, he's really good at playing an unlikable character" 🤔. The question the film raises about the American dream is still lingering in my head - am we all just trying to make ends meet without losing ourselves in the process? 🤷‍♂️ It's left me feeling...unsettled, but also kinda inspired to re-evaluate my own priorities 🌟. Overall, it's a thought-provoking film that'll stay with you long after the credits roll 👍.

Ugh, I'm so over the hype around this film 🙄. First of all, can we talk about how cringeworthy Timothée Chalamet's character is? Like, I get it, Marty Mauser is supposed to be some kind of "anti-hero" but honestly, he just comes across as a whiny brat 😒.

And don't even get me started on the filmmaking style. I mean, I love Josh Safdie's work and all, but this film feels like an endurance test 🤯. It's like, yeah, we get it, you're trying to create some sort of "claustrophobic puzzle box" vibe, but can't we just have a break from all the close-ups and quick cuts already? My eyes are bleeding 💀.

And what's with all the existential angst? Like, I'm not saying Marty Supreme isn't deep or thought-provoking, but can we please talk about something else for once? 🤪 I mean, I'm just trying to watch a movie here, not solve world hunger 😴.

omg u gotta watch marty supreme!!! 😱 its like timothée chalamet's character marty mauser is literally the most toxic person ever... i mean u get it, he's a ping pong pro and all that jazz but honestly ur just wanna punch him in the face lol. josh safdie is like a genius or wut with the way he directs this flick its so intense u feel like ur trapped in martys world too 🤯. anyhoo i dont think its really about the american dream tho... thats what bothers me lol anyway, chalamet acts his butt off and its def a wild ride 😂 10/10 would not recommend to my grandma though

omg i just watched marty supreme 🤯 and i gotta say its like they took all the most annoying ppl on earth and put them in 1 movie 😂 timothée chalamet's character is literally so extra 💁‍♂️ but at the same time josh safdie does an amazin job of makin it feel super real 🤯 its like u r trapped in a never endin nightmare but in a good way? kinda... idk 🤷‍♀️ i mean who thought ping pong was gonna be the key to understanding america's soul 🎾🇺🇸 anyway, chalamet is probs the only 1 who can pull off that level of cringey charm 💁‍♂️ and honestly, i'm still tryna process everythin 😅

I'm so done with these "art house" flicks thinkin' they're all high & mighty 🙄 Marty Supreme sounds like a total snooze fest to me, I mean what's the point of watchin' some dude whine about nothin' for 2 hours? And don't even get me started on that ping pong thingy, it's just a bunch of rich kids yellin' at each other 🎾💸 Give me somethin' with some real drama & action any day!

🤯 I'm still trying to process this movie after watching it... like, how does one even make someone so annoyingly captivating? 🤦‍♂️ Timothée Chalamet's performance is insane, but at the same time, I felt like I was stuck in a nightmare with Marty too 😩. The film's not for everyone, I think – some people might love it for its intensity and emotional depth, while others will hate it for being just plain uncomfortable 🤢. Either way, it's definitely making me think about the American dream and what it really means to be happy 🤔.

omg i just watched mart supreme with my kid 🤯🎥 it was like watching timothée chalamet's character marty mauser on repeat - so annoying and self-absorbed 🙄😒 but at the same time, the performances were insane 🤩 especially chalamet's, he totally nailed the narcissistic thing going on with marty

i have to admit, i was on edge the whole time watching this movie 🎢 my kid kept asking me if it was over yet 😩 but what really got me thinking is how it made me question our own values and morals as parents 🤔 are we doing enough for our kids? Are we letting them grow up with the same empty, superficial world that marty's living in?

anyway, 10/10 would not watch again anytime soon 😂 but seriously, great review on this film, it sounds like a real wild ride

OMG what just happened to Timothée Chalamet's character 😱 I feel like I'm stuck watching this guy and it's literally torture for me 🤯 his narcissism is insane why does he have to be so annoying all the time? 🙄

and can someone explain to me why ping pong is such a big deal in this movie? 🎾 is it just me or do I need to learn how to play now? 🤣

I love that Josh Safdie is pushing boundaries with his filmmaking skills, but at the same time, Marty's character is like the ultimate buzzkill 😒 I mean, who wants to watch someone be so self-centered all the time? 🤷‍♀️

and omg what a mind-blowing question: is it even possible to find meaning in life without losing yourself? 🤯 that's deep, Safdie, you're like the cat who poked my whiskers 😹

omg u gotta watch this new movie martysupreme lol its like watching ur worst nightmare come to life timothée chalamet plays the lead role of marty mauser & honestly he's so annoying 🤯 his narcissism & self absorption are super suffocating i felt like rolling my eyes out entire film but at same time it was kinda mesmerizing? josh safdie did an amazing job directing its like a puzzle box ur not sure what ur watching but u cant look away 🤔 the film asks if we can find meaning in life even when everything is tryin to bring us down 🤕 chalamet's performance is insane he's so captivating but also super unsettling lol i felt bad for him at end of film grade a def 👍

I just watched this movie with my 13-year-old son and I'm still trying to process it 😩. As a parent, I was taken aback by how toxic Marty's behavior is 🤢. I mean, we've talked about being confident and assertive, but this level of narcissism and entitlement? No thanks! 👎

What really struck me, though, was how Marty's actions affect those around him 💔. His relationships with others are so one-dimensional and self-centered... it's like he's living in a bubble 🌪️. I had to explain to my son why this kind of behavior is not acceptable and what the consequences can be for our own values and morals.

I do think the movie raises some thought-provoking questions, though 🤔. Is the American dream really about chasing after material success or finding true fulfillment? I'm still pondering that one 🤯. What's your take on it? Have you seen this movie?

I just watched Marty Supreme with my friends and I gotta say it's super thought-provoking 🤯. The film's exploration of the American dream and how it can be so empty is crazy relevant right now 📚. But what really got me thinking was Marty's character arc - he's not necessarily a bad person, he's just lost and trying to find his place in the world. It's like, we've all been there at some point, feeling like we're just going through the motions 😴.

I loved how the film doesn't shy away from showing the darker side of human nature, but also leaves room for interpretation 🤔. It's like, we're not given easy answers, but that's what makes it so uncomfortable and real, you know? And Chalamet's performance is just wow - he fully embodies Marty's complexity and charisma 💥.

Anyway, I gotta agree with the review - A grade isn't enough for this one 🤓. It's definitely a movie that'll stay with you long after it's over, and maybe even make you question your own values in the process 💭.

I just had the craziest dream last night where I was flying over a giant pineapple on a scooter 🤯😂 I know it sounds random but like, what if pineapples could actually grow in mid-air? Wouldn't that be wild? And speaking of wild, have you guys tried those new flavorless chips that are supposed to taste like nothing at all? I mean, I'm not saying they're bad or anything, but they just kinda exist. Like, what's the point of eating a chip if it's just gonna feel like eating nothing? 🤔👀

🤯 I just watched Marty Supreme with my friends and we're all still reeling from the experience 🙅‍♂️. The film is so intense and emotional, it's like being in a toxic relationship... with yourself 💔. I love how the director, Josh Safdie, takes us on this wild ride into Marty's world of ping pong madness 🏓. Timothée Chalamet's performance is insane - he totally embodies the character's narcissistic vibes 👀.

But what really got me thinking was how the film makes you question our own values and morals 😳. Is the American dream just an illusion? Are we all just trying to get by, even if it means sacrificing ourselves in the process? 🤔 It's not always easy to watch, but that's part of its appeal, right? The movie is like a punch in the gut - it'll leave you feeling uncomfortable and disturbed 😬. But hey, that's what makes it so great! 👏

Marty Supreme sounds like my worst night out 🤯. Chalamet's performance is intense, but is it just me or does Timothée have a permanent case of 'I'm better than everyone' face? 😒

🤯 I just watched Marty Supreme with my friends and I'm still reeling from the experience 😱 it's like Josh Safdie took all the toxic energy of the internet and poured it onto the screen 💻 the main character is literally the human equivalent of a sinkhole – you can't look away but also don't want to be near him 🤢 timothée chalamet though, what a talent! he somehow makes this insufferable person almost... relatable? I'm still trying to process my feelings about the movie – it's like, is this some sort of commentary on our society or just a really messed up guy with a ping pong paddle 🤔

omg i just watched marty supreme 🤯 i have to agree the film is like watching timothée chalamet's character do literally nothing except be a huge pain in the world his narcissism and self-absorption are SO suffocating 😩 and Josh Safdie's direction is insane as usual but also kinda terrifying how he makes you feel like you're trapped in this never-ending nightmare with marty 🌪️ i'm still trying to process what i just saw it was like watching someone spit nails all over the screen 🤢 the questions the film raises about the american dream and our morals are SO deep and uncomfortable but also kinda necessary? i mean, is it even possible to find meaning in a world that's designed to crush us? idk but i do know i won't soon forget this experience 😳

I gotta disagree with all this hype about Marty Supreme 🤔. I mean, Timothée Chalamet's character sounds like a total tool and I'm not buying the whole 'narcissism' thing as an excuse for his annoying behavior 😒. And don't even get me started on the ping pong aspect - what's next, a movie about competitive snail racing? 🐌

I think the film is just exploiting Marty's ego for shock value and isn't really trying to say anything meaningful about the American dream or whatever 💁‍♂️. It's just a bunch of over-the-top drama with some cool technical shots thrown in. And I'm not convinced that Chalamet's performance is that deep or complex 🤷‍♂️.

I mean, if you ask me, Marty Supreme sounds like a total mess and I wouldn't waste my time watching it 😴. Maybe I'm just not the target audience for this kind of psychological thriller...?

Meh, I don't know about this one 🤔. The whole ping pong thing seems kinda gimmicky to me. I mean, I get what they're trying to say about the American dream being empty, but it feels like they're just taking a weird angle on it. And yeah, Timothée Chalamet's performance is lit 🔥, but it's not like he's breaking new ground or anything. He's still playing a pretty intense and whiny character 😒. I'm all for some emotional intensity in a movie, but this feels like it's going on way too long 🕰️. And don't even get me started on the whole 'we're all just trying to get by' vibe... sounds like a bunch of pretentious nonsense 🙄. Still, I guess it's an experience that'll stay with you... if only because it's so ridiculously over-the-top 😲.

omg i just watched marty supreme and i'm still trying to process the whole thing 🤯 it's like...the main character is literally so annoying u know? timothée chalamet does a great job of making him cringe-worthy, but at the same time, you can't help but be drawn in by his weirdness 😒 the director's style is super unique and it adds to the whole vibe of the movie. i loved how it makes u feel like u're stuck in this never-ending cycle with marty. as for the questions it raises...i'm not sure what to think about it 🤔 but one thing's for sure, it'll stay with me for a while. has anyone else seen it? 😂
