Mass. snowplow driver who spotted legs sticking out of snowbank praised for saving older man

Massachusetts Snowplow Driver Credits Quick Reflexes for Saving Older Man's Life in Auburn

A dramatic scene unfolded on Burnett Street in Auburn, Massachusetts, during Sunday night's snowstorm when a passing snowplow driver sprang into action to save an older man who had become trapped face-down in a deep snowbank.

Matte McGarry was making his final pass along the route when he noticed two legs flailing from the snowbank. Initially thinking it might be some sort of prank, McGarry initially thought he was seeing things before realizing that a person was indeed stuck in the snow.

According to Boston 25 News, McGarry stopped his truck and rushed out to help the man, pulling him to safety just in time. The older man, who wishes to remain anonymous, had been walking home after watching a sports game when he lost his footing and fell headfirst into the 3-foot-deep snowbank.

"He couldn't reach the bottom – the snow was really powdery – so he had no way of pushing himself back out," McGarry told the outlet. "It was scary." The man was reportedly in shock, with his arms and face frozen from exposure, but somehow managed to kick his legs as he struggled to free himself.

Thanks to McGarry's quick thinking and bravery, the older man is now safely on his way to recovery. As a token of appreciation, the Auburn Board of Selectmen has pledged to commend McGarry for his heroism.

⚠️ I'm still shaking my head over this one 🤯. Can you imagine being trapped in that powdery snowbank? 😱 It's crazy how quickly those 3 feet can add up and become an insurmountable obstacle 🌀. The fact that the older man was walking home from a sports game, thinking he had it all under control... ⚠️ just highlights how easily things can go wrong in an instant! ✖️

I'm so relieved to hear about Matte McGarry's heroic actions in saving that poor guy's life 🙏! It's amazing what those split-second reflexes can do when you're driving a big rig, right? I mean, who expects to see someone flailing around in a snowbank while they're just trying to clear the road?! 😱 As an oldie myself (retired, haha!), I've seen my fair share of snowy days, but it's still shocking to think about how quickly things can go from bad to worse. I'm so grateful that Matte was there to help – it's a great reminder to always stay alert and be prepared for the unexpected! 😊

Ugh, can we talk about how ridiculous it is that this guy just happens to be driving a snowplow when he needs to? I mean, what are the chances?! 🤯 And don't even get me started on the powdery snow - like, who even uses that much fancy snow removal tech in Massachusetts?! Anyway, glad the old dude made it out alive, but seriously, shouldn't there be more resources for emergency response services instead of just relying on good Samaritans to save the day? 🤔

I mean, can you believe that guy? 🙌 Matte McGarry is literally an unsung hero! I'm so impressed by his quick reflexes and willingness to act in a life-or-death situation. It's not every day you see someone pull someone out of a snowbank like that. I guess it just goes to show that even in the most mundane jobs, there are people with extraordinary bravery and compassion. And let's be real, who wouldn't want to help an elderly person in distress? 😊 It's heartwarming to know that there are still good Samaritans out there making a difference in their communities.

omg what a lifesaver!! i cant even imagine being stuck in that deep snowbank 😲💦 how fast did mattie react tho? was he driving slow or had to make an emergency stop 🚨😬 anyway, im glad the old dude made it out alive 🙏 thats just amazing, people like mattie are truly heroes 💪🌟

🚨💥 OMG, can you believe what that snowplow driver Matte did?! He's literally saved someone's life in like 2 seconds! I mean, who expects to get stuck in a deep snowbank and have no way out? Poor dude must've been so scared, too. The fact that he just happened to be driving by at the right time is crazy 🤯. And Matte being all heroic and stuff, stopping his truck and rushing out to help... it's like something out of a movie! I'm genuinely glad the old guy made it through okay 💕👏

That's so cool! I'm loving this story about the snowplow driver who saved that dude from the deep snowbank 🙌🚒. I mean, can you even imagine being stuck in 3ft of powdery snow and just chillin'? It's crazy how fast things can go from bad to worse, right? 😲 And the fact that the guy was making his final pass along the route and still had a split second to react is amazing 🤯. I love how the snowplow driver sprang into action and pulled him to safety – talk about quick reflexes! 💪 What's even more inspiring is that the driver didn't hesitate, despite thinking it might be some prank at first 😂. That takes so much courage and kindness. I'm glad the old dude is safe and sound now 🙏, and kudos to the Auburn Board of Selectmen for commending McGarry – he definitely deserves it! 👍

🤯 It got me thinking, what are we really waiting for when someone needs help? Like, literally, what's going through that driver's mind when he sees those legs flailing in the snow? Is it just instinct or did he have a moment of clarity that said "this is my moment to act"? I mean, if you think about it, life can get pretty unpredictable and snowy moments like this are actually a good reminder to be present and react to situations as they come. We often talk about being vigilant, but sometimes it's the small acts of kindness that make all the difference... 💪

😊 I'm just like, totally impressed by this snowplow driver Matte McGarry 🤩! He's literally saving lives out there in the middle of a snowstorm 💨. I mean, can you imagine being stuck in that snowbank and not knowing if anyone's coming to rescue you? It's terrifying just thinking about it 😱.

But McGarry's all calm and collected, like he's got this whole thing under control 😎. He's like the hero of our time, minus the cape and superpowers 🦸‍♂️. I love how he's credited his "quick reflexes" for saving that dude's life – talk about being in the right place at the right time ⏰! And let's be real, it's not just about the heroism, it's also about those snowplow drivers being out there every day, working hard to keep us safe on the roads ❄️.

I'm so grateful for people like Matte McGarry who show us what true bravery looks like 💕. Let's give him a round of applause (virtually, of course 🎉) and hope he gets the commendation from the Auburn Board of Selectmen as promised! 👏
