Matt Cord to fill 93.3 WMMR's midday slot, succeeding the late Pierre Robert

Local Radio Veteran Returns to WMMR Midday Slot

Philadelphia's iconic 93.3 WMMR has announced that radio veteran Matt Cord will be taking over as midday host, starting December 1st. The news comes after the passing of beloved disc jockey Pierre Robert, a staple at the station for nearly five decades.

Cord, who is also the current morning host at sister station 102.9 WMGK, has expressed his commitment to honoring Robert's legacy in his new role. "Although no one can step into those sparkling high-top Converse and fill them," Cord said, "I've known Pierre for 35 years." He promised to carry Robert's spirit into the studio, striving to make him proud.

Cord's return marks a significant shift for WMMR, which has been navigating the void left by Robert's passing. Program Director Chuck Damico acknowledged that it's been an "incredibly challenging" time for the station but expressed gratitude for Cord's willingness to take on the responsibility. Damico praised Cord as a 40-year Philadelphia radio veteran, describing him as "talented, welcoming, and trusted."

Cord brings extensive experience in local radio, having started his career in New York at Long Island's 106.1 WBLI and later WDRE (formerly WLIR). He has worked extensively with WMMR, hosting shows such as alt-rock show "Planet M" and serving on the station's morning team.

As a lifelong Sixers fan, Cord also serves as the team's PA announcer, having joined in 1998. This new role marks his third stint at WMMR, which boasts a mainstream rock format that consistently tops Nielsen ratings in the Philadelphia market.

To celebrate Robert's legacy, WMMR will hold a tribute concert on December 17th at the Fillmore Philadelphia in Fishtown, featuring notable acts such as Shinedown, Halestorm, and Collective Soul.

I'm so sad to hear about Pierre Robert ๐Ÿ™. It sounds like WMMR is taking good care of his legacy by having Matt Cord take over the midday slot. I've heard great things about Cord's radio skills - he seems like a talented guy who's been doing this for a long time. 40 years in Philly radio is no joke, you know? ๐Ÿ˜… It'll be interesting to see how Cord balances honoring Robert's memory with his own style, but I'm sure he'll do a great job. The tribute concert on Dec 17th sounds like it's gonna be lit ๐ŸŽธ! Fishtown's Fillmore is always a sick venue... can't wait to see some awesome bands perform there!

OMG, I'm so down for this!!! Matt Cord is like the best! He's been doing radio for ages and it shows. I remember listening to Pierre Robert back in the day, he was a legend ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ฅ. I'm excited to hear him on WMMR again, it's gonna be epic! And can we talk about how awesome the lineup is for the tribute concert? Shinedown and Halestorm are gonna bring the house down!!! ๐Ÿ˜†๐ŸŽธ

๐Ÿ™„ So they're bringing back Matt Cord to fill Pierre Robert's shoes... like that's gonna be easy? I mean, 35 years of knowing each other isn't exactly the same as being his protรฉgรฉ or partner in crime. Still, I suppose it's good that WMMR is trying to keep things local and honoring their history. But let's not get too carried away - Cord's been around for a hot second longer than Robert, so I'm not sure he's the best fit... just saying ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

omg i'm not sure about this...Matt Cord's been hosting morning shows for years but midday is a whole different vibe ๐Ÿค”. Can he bring that same energy to 12-3 PM? and what's with the tribute concert thing? it feels like they're just trying to cling to Pierre Robert's legacy instead of forging their own way ๐Ÿ˜. still, i guess it's good to have some local flavor in the midday slot ๐ŸŽถ.

I don't usually comment but I'm really gonna say something about this... Matt Cord is taking over Pierre Robert's midday slot and I gotta admit it's kinda bittersweet ๐Ÿค”. On one hand, I love that they're giving a new voice to WMMR and trying out fresh content, but on the other hand it feels like a part of Philly radio history is being rewritten ๐Ÿ’”.

Cord seems like a cool dude though, and I'm hoping he brings some new vibes to the station. But what's gonna happen to Pierre Robert's spirit? ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Like, how are they gonna make sure his legacy lives on while also keeping things fresh for listeners? That's a tough one...

omg u guys I'm so stoked to hear that Matt Cord is taking over at WMMR midday slot! ๐ŸŽ‰ he's literally a legend in philly radio scene and I'm sure he'll bring the heat with his 40+ years of experience ๐Ÿ’ฅ cant wait to see him honor Pierre Robert's legacy, it's gonna be so emotional celebrating life & music together ๐ŸŽถ gotta get my tickets for that tribute concert ASAP!!! ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ

idk if cord is gonna fill pierre roberts shoes but i do think its good that wmmr is keeping things familiar for the listeners ๐Ÿค”. its been a while since we've had someone new in the midday slot and i'm curious to see how cord brings his own spin to the show ๐Ÿ“ป. i love that they're paying tribute to pierre robert with a concert on dec 17 tho, gonna be a really cool way to celebrate his legacy ๐Ÿ’•

idk why they think cord can just fill pierre roberts shoes... he had his own vibe and style that cant be replaced ๐Ÿค”. theyre gonna hold a tribute concert but whats the point? they shouldve gotten someone from philly who actually knew pierre to take over, not some guy who worked with him 35 yrs ago ๐ŸŽต

omg cant believe theyre bringin back matt cord!! hes been around philly radio scene for ages lol remember when he used to spin on planet m? anyways gotta say i'm excited about this new midday show, sounds like cord is gonna keep the spirit of pierre robert alive ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽง but wmmr needs to step up their tribute concert game, fillmore philly is already takin over on december 17th ๐Ÿคฉ

man, cant believe wmmr is losin another legend pierre robert was def a philly institution... matt cord seems like good choice tho, been around 40 yrs radio veteran dont know much about him but sounds talented and welcoming... tribute concert on december 17th at the fillmore? that's gonna be lit!!!

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ just saw this news about Matt Cord taking over Pierre Robert's midday slot at WMMR... kinda feel bad for Pierre's family but glad they're getting to celebrate his legacy with a tribute concert ๐ŸŽธ shinedown, halestorm, collective soul are gonna kill it ๐Ÿ’ฅ

so it's great that matt cord is taking over the midday slot at wmmr to honor pierre robert's legacy ๐Ÿ™ he seems like a cool dude who's been around the block a few times, 40 yrs of philly radio experience is no joke! i'm curious to see how he'll bring his own vibe to the show while still keeping things true to robert's spirit ๐ŸŽต also, that tribute concert on dec 17th sounds epic ๐ŸคŸ can't wait to see shinedown live!
