Mavs’ Anthony Davis trade stance made clear ahead of deadline

The Dallas Mavericks' stance on Anthony Davis is becoming increasingly clear as the NBA trade deadline approaches. It's been a year since the Mavericks shocked the basketball world by trading Luka Doncic for Davis, and now that franchise's star player has landed another long-term deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Meanwhile, Davis finds himself back in Dallas, albeit temporarily, after an injury put him on the shelf. His representatives have denied reports of them pushing for a trade behind the scenes, but it's clear that Davis' future is uncertain. The Mavericks seem content to keep him on board until at least the 2026 offseason, which could make it difficult for other teams to acquire him.

There are few contenders in the market for Davis right now, and even fewer are actively pursuing him. The Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors were among the most frequent suitors, but those teams have seemed less active in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, and Chicago Bulls had expressed interest early on, but it appears they've lost steam.

Davis is a top-two way player when healthy, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game for the Mavericks this season. However, his injury record has been concerning, with an 11-game stretch of absences so far. With Davis' $58 million salary on the books for next year, it's unclear what team would be willing to take that risk.

The situation is too complicated and risky for teams to consider acquiring Davis from the Mavericks. The changes in Dallas heading into the 2026 offseason are likely growing, making it increasingly unlikely that another team will step forward and offer a deal. As the deadline approaches, it seems more and more likely that Davis will remain with the Mavericks until at least next summer, when he can explore new options on the open market.

🤔 so I'm watching this whole AD saga unfold and I gotta say, I think the Mavs are getting a sweet deal out of this 🤑 they're basically having their cake and eating it too - get to keep their star player for now, but also have him on a manageable salary that won't break the bank 💸 meanwhile, teams like GS or CH are just going to be left high and dry trying to make a big trade happen 😂 and let's not forget AD is only healthy for like half the season - that injury record is scary 🤕 so yeah, I think Dallas has got this one in the bag 👍

I gotta say 🤔, I'm kinda surprised how lukewarm teams are being about AD 🚫. Like, 58 million a year is a serious commitment 💸 and you're not gonna find a taker anytime soon 📉. The Mavericks have got him on life support for now, but once they make that big change in the offseason, I'd be shocked if anyone else even bothered 🤷‍♂️. Teams are all about stability these days, and AD's injury history is like, whoa 😬. I think he'll stick around Dallas till the end of next year, and then it's gonna be a whole new ball game 💥.

omg u think mavs r tryna get rid of AD cuz of luka's drama lol no way they just wanna keep their star player tho 🤷‍♂️ they got him on a long-term deal so i guess its not like he can just jump ship anytime soon. and honestly, who would wanna take on that salary cap hit for one year? its crazy how mavs r just chillin' waiting 4 the offseason to see what happens lol

🤔 u guys gotta wonder why the Mavericks are being so stubborn about trading AD... maybe they're just trying to get some leverage for Luka 🤑... or what if it's a bigger deal than that? What if they really don't want him gone but can't keep him due to his injury history? 🤕 That $58 million salary is a big risk even for another team. And the changes in Dallas in 2026 could be a major factor... are they gonna be selling out the whole arena or something? 😂 Either way, I'm calling it: AD's future with the Mavs is still up in the air 💥

man this is crazy... so Anthony Davis is gonna stay in Dallas for now but its hard to see him being there forever 🤔. luka donnicic was the one who made that big trade work and now hes gone, that leaves a huge void for mavericks... or maybe davis is just trying to win another chip with lakers? 🏆 either way its gonna be tough for anyone else to get him, his injury record is a major concern 💔. teams are probably scared of his salary too lol $58 million next year is like a lot 😳. the mavericks might be stuck with him but at least they got him back now ⚫️.

the NBA trade deadline is always wild 🤯, but this situation with AD is super sus 🤔. i mean, one year ago mavs were like "lol we're trading luka for ad" and now they gotta keep him 'til at least 2026? that's some crazy math ⏰. the problem is, teams are getting cold feet - who wants to take on ad's injury concerns & huge salary? 🤑 i think it's safe to say there aren't many takers out there right now 😐.

I dont think teams should be worried about that salary tho 💸 The NBA is all about player valuations & they can do their thing w/ cap space. We gotta remember that some of these big-name players are still getting a lot done without their teammates 🤝 I mean, AD was 2nd in league rebounds last season 📊
