Mentra’s first smart glasses are open-source and come with their own app store

Mentra Unveils First Smart Glasses with Open-Source OS and App Store

Smartwatch giant Huawei may have dominated the wearable space, but Mentra is now looking to shake things up with its first smart glasses, the Mentra Live. Initially reminiscent of other smart glasses on the market, these glasses boast a unique feature - their own app store.

The MiniApp Store offers a wide range of apps that can do everything from saving hand-written notes in an instant, to analyzing your chess moves and whispering suggested next steps to you. The latter example showcases what Mentra's technology is capable of.

However, the real game-changer here is the open-source OS used by the glasses. With developers having had access to the SDK since early 2025, it's a clear indication that Mentra is committed to making its technology accessible to everyone.

So what makes these smart glasses tick? The Mentra Live boasts a powerful Mediatek MTK8766 chipset and features a top-notch 12-megapixel camera with an impressive 119-degree field of view. Three microphones, stereo speakers, and HD video capabilities make for a seamless user experience. Additionally, users can stream live videos on popular platforms like X, YouTube, Twitch, and Instagram.

With a sleek design that weighs in at just 43 grams, these smart glasses are not only stylish but also light as a feather. Battery life is no less impressive, clocking over 12 hours of use with an additional 50+ hours of charge stored in the accompanying charging case. And for those who need prescription lenses, Mentra's got you covered.

Priced at $299 and available for pre-order now, the first batch of glasses will ship on February 15th, with a limited release to follow on February 28th. As one of the first smart glasses with their own app store, it remains to be seen how well Mentra's vision will hold up against its competitors in this rapidly evolving space.

🤔 so yeah, these new smart glasses from Mentra seem like a solid contender... I mean, who wouldn't want a device that can analyze chess moves for you? 😂 it's those little things that make me think they're onto something here - the open-source OS and app store are huge steps forward in terms of user accessibility. Plus, 12 hours of battery life is pretty impressive! 💻 I'd be curious to see how they stack up against other smart glasses on the market when they start hitting shelves... maybe Mentra's got a shot at disrupting the space? 🤞

I'm low-key hyped about these new smart glasses from Mentra 🤩! The fact that they have an open-source OS and a MiniApp Store is genius - it's gonna make them super appealing to devs and users alike 💻. I mean, who wouldn't want to try out all those sick chess move analyzing apps? 📈 And the design? It's sleek and comfy-looking, not too bulky at all 😎. The camera and audio quality also seem pretty impressive 📷👂. Plus, the battery life is pretty sweet - I can already imagine myself streaming vids on the go without worrying about running out of juice 💻💸. One thing that's got me wondering though: how's the price point? $299 seems a bit steep for some folks...

I gotta say, I'm super stoked about the new smart glasses from Mentra 🤩! The fact that they're open-sourcing their OS and having an app store is a huge deal for developers and users alike 📱💻. It's like, finally, we get to see some innovation in this space that puts people first, not just big corporations trying to make a quick buck 💸.

I mean, the specs on these glasses are insane 🤯 - 12-megapixel camera, 3 microphones, and HD video capabilities? That's like, next-level tech 🔥! And the design is so sleek and lightweight, it's perfect for everyday wear 👓.

But what really gets me excited is that Mentra's making this tech accessible to everyone 🌎. The fact that they're releasing their SDK early on means that devs can start building apps and integrations right away, which is gonna be a game-changer for the community 🤝.

So yeah, I'm definitely pre-ordering these glasses as soon as they ship 💥! Can't wait to see what kind of awesome stuff people come up with using Mentra's platform 😎.

I'm super stoked about these new Mentra Smart Glasses! The fact that they have an open-source OS and a mini app store is a huge game-changer - can't wait to see what crazy apps developers come up with 🤯💻. And 12 hours of battery life on the go? That's like, totally win 💪. I'm also loving the design, it's sleek and lightweight, perfect for everyday wear 👓. And $299 is actually pretty reasonable considering all the features you get. Only thing that's got me wondering is how well they'll hold up against those other smart glasses out there 🤔. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! 😄

im not sure about these mentra live glasses yet 🤔 they sound kinda cool i mean who wouldn't want a camera that can see 119 degrees around them? but the app store thing is a bit too gimmicky for me. open source os tho is a big plus points if devs can make something awesome out of it. its gonna be interesting to see how they compete with huawei and other smartwatch giants 💻

the thing that caught my eye here is the whole open-source OS deal... i mean, it's about time someone makes tech accessible to everyone 🤓. having a SDK available since early 2025 shows mentra is serious about making their tech usable by devs and users alike. also, who wouldn't want an app store for smart glasses? it's like they're thinking of all the possible use cases out there - saving notes, analyzing chess moves... it's pretty cool 📊.

but seriously, i'm a bit skeptical about the whole 'first batch' thing. $299 is a pretty penny for a pair of smart glasses, especially considering how similar designs are already out there. still, if mentra can deliver on their promise of an open-source OS and a solid app store, they might just have a chance to shake up the wearable space 📈.

🤩 Oh man, I am SO stoked about the new Mentra Smart Glasses! 🕶️ Not only do they have a top-notch camera and 12+ hours of battery life 💻, but they're also rocking an open-source OS with a MiniApp Store 📈. That means developers can already start creating their own apps and sharing them with the community 🤝. It's huge! 😎 The fact that users can stream live videos on popular platforms like X and YouTube 📺 is a total game-changer for streaming enthusiasts 👀. And, $299 isn't too bad considering what you're getting 💸. I'm definitely pre-ordering these when they drop on Feb 15th 🎉. Can't wait to see how the app store grows and evolves with the community 🤔

🤔 I'm super stoked about these new smart glasses from Mentra! The fact that they have their own app store is a total game-changer. I mean, who wouldn't want to be able to analyze their chess moves or take notes with just a thought? 📝💡 It's like having a mini computer on your face!

And the open-source OS thing is so cool! I love that devs can already get access to the SDK and start building their own apps. That kind of transparency and community involvement always leads to awesome results.

I'm also loving the specs - that Mediatek chipset sounds beefy, and 12 hours of battery life is no joke. Plus, the camera and audio quality sound on point. I can already imagine streaming live vids on X or YouTube with my new glasses 😎

My only concern is that it'll be tough for Mentra to stand out in a crowded market, but I'm hyped to see how this plays out! Can't wait to get my hands (or should I say, eyes?) on these glasses and see what they can do 💫
