Multiple shooters suspected in fatal Lincoln University shooting. A shooting at Lincoln University on Saturday night has left one person dead and six others injured, with investigators suspecting multiple perpetrators were involved.
According to Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe, 21-year-old Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson of Wilmington, Delaware, is currently being held on $25,000 bail for carrying a concealed firearm without a license. However, officials are still unsure if the gun used in the shooting was the one found at the scene.
De Barrena-Sarobe stated that his office has a "strong belief" that multiple shooters were involved, but does not believe this was a premeditated mass shooting. Instead, they think the perpetrators acted on impulse and did not have a clear design to cause harm.
The shooting occurred during Lincoln University's homecoming weekend, at 9:30pm Saturday, leaving Jujuan Jeffers, 25, fatally shot in the head. Six other people were wounded, including one student and one alumnus, who are expected to survive their injuries.
De Barrena-Sarobe noted that it is unclear how many shots were fired during the incident, which investigators are working to determine by conducting interviews, FBI searches, K9 searches of the crime scene, and reviewing video evidence.
The university has been placed on a high alert, but officials have stated there is no longer a threat to the public. However, one area of campus remains an active crime scene, and classes were canceled for Monday. A community event is set to take place on campus at noon.
Lincoln University's president described the incident as "tragic" and expressed grief over the loss of life. Governor Josh Shapiro also offered his support to the university and families affected, stating that the shooting was a senseless act of violence that should have been spent celebrating the legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities like Lincoln.
