National Guard shooting: Trump says US should 're-examine' all Afghan refugees after suspect named

US President Donald Trump has called for a thorough review of all Afghan refugees who entered the country during Joe Biden's presidency after a suspect from Afghanistan was identified as being involved in the shooting of two US national guard members.

The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is a 29-year-old Afghan national who arrived in the US under a policy allowing Afghans to resettle here after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. According to reports, Lakanwal had been granted asylum earlier this year.

Trump described the shooting as "an act of terror" and said that the country needs to re-examine all Afghan refugees who entered during Biden's presidency, adding that those who do not belong in the US should be removed.

The stoppage of processing immigration requests for Afghan nationals is expected to have significant implications on the lives of thousands of individuals living in the country. The decision comes amid widespread criticism from lawmakers and advocacy groups who argue that it unfairly targets a vulnerable community.

The shooting took place near the White House, with both victims in critical condition. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect had been shot and was being held in custody, but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Trump's comments on the incident are seen as an attempt to deflect attention from his own administration's handling of vetting migrants from Afghanistan before allowing them into the country. The previous administration had implemented a rigorous screening process for Afghans arriving here after the US withdrawal.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has stated that it will no longer process all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals, pending further review.

I'm getting all these flashbacks of 9/11... remember when we were in a state of emergency and everyone was so scared? Now, it feels like we're right back at it again, with this shooting and Trump wanting to re-examine all Afghan refugees... what's the point? They came here seeking a better life, just like many others. And now, thousands of people are going to be stuck in limbo because of one guy's actions. It's just so unfair. I feel bad for all those families who have already settled here, got jobs, built lives... and now they're going to be thrown back into uncertainty. Can't we just learn from our mistakes instead of going down this path again? πŸ€•

πŸ˜• This is so unfair! All these ppl have been living in the US for years, workin' hard and contributin' to society, just like anyone else... πŸ˜” Why are they suddenly gettin' singled out? It's not like we don't have enough problems with immigration already 🀯. And what about all the other refugees who came here under different circumstances? Should they be thrown back into limbo too? 🚫 This whole thing is just so... so... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, if Trump really cares about national security, he should be focusin' on gettin' a handle on the actual threats we face, not harmin' innocent people who are already here πŸ’”.

omg what's going on with this refugee policy 🀯 like trump is trying to stir up some drama over a shooting but honestly it's not fair to the thousands of afghan refugees who have already settled in the us and are living their lives over here πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ i mean we all know vetting processes can be flawed but suspending all immigration requests is gonna cause so much harm to people who just wanna build a life for themselves πŸ’”

and btw if trump really wanted to tackle security issues, why didn't he do this when his own admin was processing these refugees? it's like he's trying to deflect attention from some deep-seated problems πŸ€₯

πŸ€” I'm thinking, what's really going on here? Trump is trying to spin this shooting as some kind of "act of terror" to justify his own agenda to scrutinize Afghan refugees even more. But let's not forget, this suspect was given asylum just a few months ago under the same policy that Trump is now calling into question. It reeks of hypocrisy if you ask me... πŸ™„ What about all those other Afghans who came in before him and were vetted by his own administration? Wasn't that rigorous screening process supposed to catch anyone with questionable intentions? The US is basically just creating a witch hunt for Afghan refugees, and it's going to affect thousands of innocent people. I'm not buying the whole "security first" narrative here... 😏

I'm so worried about these Afghan refugees who just want a safe life πŸ€•. They're already going through so much with the Taliban taking over their country, now they're being stopped from even finding a new home in the US? It's not fair πŸ˜”. I mean, we've been hearing about how hard it is for people to get into the country, but to just stop processing applications altogether? That's some serious stuff πŸ“.

I'm also kinda thinking that this whole thing might be trying to shift attention away from some other issues... like how the previous admin handled vetting these migrants. I don't know, maybe I'm just reading too much into it πŸ˜‚. But seriously, what's going to happen to all these people who are counting on finding a new home here? It's crazy 🀯.

I wish we could have a more open and honest conversation about this instead of just demonizing one group of people 🀝. We need to consider the complexities and nuances of this situation and find a way to help those in need without making things worse πŸ’”.

OMG, this is so worrying πŸ€•! I mean, I get it, safety first and all that, but can't we be more thoughtful about how we handle things? Like, the fact that this guy was granted asylum already is pretty shocking... what if he wasn't supposed to be here in the first place?! And now thousands of people are gonna be stuck in limbo because of one bad apple 🍎. I'm not saying Trump's right or wrong, but can we just try to figure out how we can fix this mess instead of making it worse?

OMG this is getting out of hand!!! 🀯 like what even is going on here?! The guy gets involved in a shooting and suddenly we're talking about revoking asylum for thousands of people? 😑 it's so unfair to the innocent ones who are literally living their lives over there. And Trump thinks he can just deflect by saying that, no way! πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ like, didn't you guys vet these ppl properly before bringing them here?! 😩

yeah this is getting crazy... 🀯 like what's the point of targeting all afghan refugees just because one guy did something wrong? shouldn't they be vetted on a case by case basis instead of blanket statements? πŸ’” it's not fair to thousands of ppl who are just trying to start new lives here. i feel bad for them... πŸ˜•

πŸ˜• I'm worried about what's going on with these Afghan refugees... it's not fair to just stop processing their requests like this. They're already in a tough spot, having left their homes and families behind, only to have their future uncertain again. The fact that this suspect was granted asylum earlier this year doesn't necessarily mean he's a threat - we need more info before jumping to conclusions.

It seems like Trump is trying to shift attention from his own admin's handling of vetting migrants... πŸ€” but at what cost? Thousands of people are going to be affected by this decision, and it's not just about the Afghan nationals themselves, it's also about the ripple effect on their families and communities. I hope some lawmakers will step in and advocate for a more balanced approach... 🀞

I'm worried about how this is gonna affect ppl who already went thru so much πŸ€•. I get why Trump wants 2 do his own thing but stopping processing for all Afghan refugees? That's harsh, man. It's like, we can't just judge an entire group of ppl based on 1 bad apple 🍎. What about the ones who came here w/ good intentions & are tryin' to rebuild their lives? I hope ppl realize that this is just a slippery slope, where we start turnin' away more ppl & it's not fair to those who actually need help πŸ˜”. We should be focusin' on findin' ways 2 keep our communities safe without targeting innocent ppl 🀝.

I'm so worried about these Afghan refugees πŸ€• I mean, we're talking about people who have already been through hell and back in their own country, only to find themselves in a new country where they can finally start fresh. And now, just because of one guy's actions, everyone gets hurt? It's not fair πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

I get that security is important, but come on! You can't just stop processing these requests without giving people any kind of support or resources to deal with the fallout. I mean, what about all the families who are counting on these refugees to help them build a new life? 🀯 It's like we're taking away their future before it even starts.

And let's not forget that most of these people were already vetted by previous administrations and were deemed safe enough to come to the US. So, what changed now? Did something new come up during Biden's presidency that was missed by Trump's team? πŸ€”

I'M SO CONCERNED ABOUT THIS NEW DEVELOPMENT 🀯!! IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT THAT WE'RE STARTING TO QUESTION THE INTENTIONALITY OF PEOPLE WHO JUST WANTED A BETTER LIFE FOR THEMSELVES. I MEAN, COME ON, 29-YEAR-OLD RAHMANULLAH LANAKANWAL ARRIVES IN THE US WITH A GRANTED ASYLUM AND WE'RE ALREADY THINKING HE'S A TERRORIST? πŸ€” IT SMELLS LIKE FISHY BUSINESS TO ME.

AND WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE WAITING FOR THEIR IMMIGRATION REQUESTS TO BE PROCESSSED? THEY'LL JUST BE LEFT IN THE LURCH, NOT KNOWING IF THEY'RE GOING TO GET A CHANCE TO START OVER. IT'S SO UNFAIR AND I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD BE PUNISHING AN ENTIRE GROUP OF PEOPLE FOR ONE INDIVIDUAL'S ACTIONS.

I THINK TRUMP IS TRYING TO SHAKE OFF SOME BURDENS FROM HIS OWN ADMINISTRATION BY BLAMING THE VETTING PROCESS ON AFGHAN REFUGEES. BUT IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK. WE NEED TO FOCUS ON MAKING SURE OUR SECURITY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE, BUT ALSO BE FAIR AND JUST TO EVERYONE.

πŸ€” This is just so sad... I mean, I get why Trump is freaking out about this incident, but does he really think stopping refugee processing is gonna help? It's not like we can turn back the clock now. What about all those people who have been living here, working, contributing to society? They're the ones who are really affected by this.

I'm also really worried about what this decision means for our country's values. We're supposed to be a nation of immigrants, but now it seems like we're more focused on security than compassion. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ And let's not forget that these refugees were fleeing war and persecution in their own country. They deserve some kindness and understanding, don't they?

It's just so frustrating when people use tragic events to advance their own agendas. Can't we have a conversation about how to keep our communities safe without targeting the most vulnerable? 🀞
