Netflix Orders ‘I Suck at Girls’ Comedy Series From ‘Abbott Elementary’ Duo

Netflix has greenlit a comedy series adaptation of Justin Halpern's 2012 memoir "I Suck at Girls", which will be penned by Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, co-showrunners on popular ABC sitcom "Abbott Elementary". The project has also roped in veteran TV producer Bill Lawrence, who serves as an executive producer via his banner Doozer, along with Warner Bros. Television.

The series follows three high school sophomores navigating the ups and downs of teenage romance while figuring out their identities. Inspired by Halpern's own experiences with childhood crushes and losing his virginity, the show promises to be a humorous take on adolescent struggles. "I Suck at Girls" originally began life as a pilot for Fox in 2013, under the working title "Surviving Jack", but was eventually shelved.

However, with Netflix ordering the adaptation, it's unclear whether the project will see the light of day, given that the deal is contingent on casting. As such, Variety has chosen not to comment further on the matter. Despite this uncertainty, production details have been confirmed, with Halpern and Schumacker set to serve as executive producers alongside Chet Dave, Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer.

The involvement of Halpern, Schumacker, and Lawrence is noteworthy, given their prior experience in developing and producing shows such as "Abbott Elementary", "Shrinking", and "Scrubs". With this team on board, the adaptation promises to bring a unique blend of humor and heart to the screen.

omg i'm so down for this new netflix comedy series based on justin halpern's memoir lol I mean who doesn't relate to awkward high school romances? 🤣 I'm curious about how they'll tackle the whole "figuring out identity" thing, but with a team of creators like halpern and schumacker at the helm, i'm expecting some great laughs. 💖 The fact that it's been around since 2013 already and was shelved by fox is wild... fingers crossed it gets made now 😅 bill lawrence on board is a huge plus too - his shows are always so well-crafted 📺

I'm so down for this new comedy series! I mean, who doesn't love a good laugh at the struggles of growing up, right? 🤣 It's gonna be awesome to see Justin Halpern's take on his own teenage experiences brought to life. And with Patrick Schumacker and Bill Lawrence on board, it's like they're speaking my language! 📚 Those guys have proven themselves with shows like "Abbott Elementary" and "Shrinking", so I'm expecting big things from this one.

I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about the project being revived, but now that we know more about the production team, I think it's gonna be a winner. Let's just hope they can find some talented young actors to bring these high school sophomores to life! 👀 Casting is key, after all...

OMG, I'm so down for a comedy series about navigating teenage romance 🤣👫! It sounds like it's gonna be super relatable for anyone who's been there, done that... or is just trying not to be there anymore 😂. The fact that the creators are coming from real life experiences is gonna bring such authenticity to the show. I'm also loving the lineup of producers - they've got a solid track record with shows like "Abbott Elementary" and "Shrinking". Fingers crossed they can make this adaptation happen and bring it to our screens soon! 🎉💕

🤔 just saw that netflix is adapting 'I Suck at Girls' into a comedy series 🎉 its actually kinda funny how they had it shelved back in 2013 lol but with patrick schumacker and bill lawrence on board, im feeling the vibe! love how the show's gonna tackle teenage romance & identity issues, hopefully they can make it relatable to gen z. cant wait to see if casting comes together 👀

I'm hyped for this new comedy series 😆! Justin Halpern's memoir is super relatable, especially for anyone who's been through awkward teenage years 🙃. I love that it's being adapted with a talented team like Patrick Schumacker and Bill Lawrence on board 🤝. The fact that they're bringing their expertise from shows like "Abbott Elementary" and "Scrubs" to this project is a great sign 📈. However, I'm a bit skeptical about the casting situation - fingers crossed that Netflix can find the right people for these lead roles 💪. Overall, I think this show has the potential to be hilarious and heartfelt at the same time ❤️. Can't wait to see how it all comes together! 👀

omg, can't wait for this show! 🤩💖 #NetflixOriginals are always the best, gotta catch up on all the latest comedy series. The fact that Justin Halpern is penning it too, it's gonna be super personal and relatable, I'm low-key excited to see how he brings his childhood crushes and losing his virginity experiences to life 🤣 #ComingOfAge #TeenRomance #NetflixAdaptations

🤣 just heard about this new netflix series based on Justin Halpern's memoir 📚👦 it's gonna be so relatable for us old souls who struggled with crushes in high school 💘😂 can you imagine having your own show where you get to laugh at yourself and share your awkward experiences with the world? 🤪 i'm low-key excited for this project already 🎉 maybe we'll finally see some of these classic coming-of-age stories on tv again 📺👍

I'm low-key hyped about Netflix adapting Justin Halpern's memoir into a comedy series 🤔! I mean, the guy was a teenager navigating high school romance and identity crises - we've all been there 😂. The fact that it's being produced by such an experienced team, including Bill Lawrence and Patrick Schumacker from "Abbott Elementary", is a major win for me. Their track record of creating shows that are both laugh-out-loud funny and heartwarming is unparalleled. I'm curious to see how they'll tackle the ups and downs of teenage life, but with this crew on board, I have high hopes it'll be a wild ride 🎢. The fact that it's not getting picked up by Fox (or whatever working title they had back then) is probably a blessing in disguise - sometimes those reboots just don't pan out 😅. Fingers crossed it'll make it to Netflix and bring some much-needed laughter and relatability to our screens 📺

I'm so down for this show 🤩, I mean, who doesn't love a good laugh about being awkward in high school? But hold up, isn't that like, the same stuff we saw on "Abbott Elementary" already? 😂 Is this just another spin-off of their success or something new and different? And why do I still think it's gonna get cancelled after only one season though 🤔? Maybe Netflix has some magic up their sleeve to make it a hit... but what if the casting is all wrong? 🤦‍♀️

This news got me thinking about how we grow up and navigate through our insecurities. I mean, who hasn't been that awkward teenager trying to figure out their place in the world? It's like, we're all just stumbling around in the dark, trying to find our way to each other... 🤗

But what's interesting is how these stories are often based on real-life experiences, which can be both a blessing and a curse. I mean, it's one thing to share your vulnerabilities with others, but it's another thing entirely when you're putting yourself out there for the world to see... 🤔

And yet, that's what makes shows like this so compelling – they give us permission to laugh at ourselves and not take things too seriously. It's okay to be a little messed up, as long as we can learn from our mistakes and grow into something more... 💡

So Netflix is getting into the teen comedy game with this adaptation, eh? 🤔 I'm kinda curious about how they're gonna tackle the whole 'navigating identity' thing without it feeling too preachy or cheesy. I mean, "I Suck at Girls" was already a pretty lighthearted memoir, but adapting that into a TV series is a big undertaking.

I think what's cool about this project is that they've got a solid team behind it - Halpern and Schumacker are known for their comedic chops on "Abbott Elementary", and Bill Lawrence is no stranger to creating relatable, funny characters. 🤝 With those guys at the helm, I'm hoping for something genuinely funny and heartfelt. But, you know, casting can make or break a project... 💬 What do you guys think? Are you down to give this show a try when it eventually hits Netflix?

🤔 I mean, think about it... a comedy series about three high school sophomores navigating teenage romance and identity? It's almost like we're watching ourselves from back in the day... trying to figure out who we were and where we fit in. 📚 The show's premise reminds me of those awkward moments when you realize you have no idea what you want or who you are, but at least you know it feels kinda good to be confused 😂.

But here's the thing: what does it say about us that we're so fascinated by this particular stage of life? Is it because we're nostalgic for the uncertainty and freedom of our youth? Or is it because we want to vicariously live through the struggles and triumphs of our younger selves? 🤷‍♂️ Either way, I'm intrigued to see how this show turns out. Will it capture the awkwardness and vulnerability of adolescence with accuracy? Only time (and maybe a few laughs) will tell 😊.

Ugh, another Netflix show that's just gonna be all about teenage drama 🙄. I mean, how original is it really? Three high school sophomores navigating romance and identity? It sounds like every other teen sitcom ever made... 🤦‍♀️ And don't even get me started on the fact that it's based on some dude's memoir. Like, isn't that just a fancy way of saying "I'm gonna milk my own failures for TV gold"? 🤑 And what's up with the deal being contingent on casting? Are they really gonna pass on this show if they can't find the right actors? 🤔 It's like they're holding out hope that some magic happens and suddenly this show becomes a hit. Please, we've seen it before... 😒

omg I just finished watching all seasons of Abbott Elementary like what's going on with Netflix? they're making a show about high school romance? 🤷‍♀️ i'm not sure if i'd wanna watch that but i guess if it's funny and stuff, ill check it out 😂 does anyone else remember Scrubs? that was such a classic 🙌

🤔 I think it's awesome that Netflix is taking a chance on adapting Justin Halpern's memoir into a comedy series. The show concept seems really relatable, especially for anyone who's ever navigated high school romance and identity crises 🤷‍♀️. With the team behind "Abbott Elementary" and "Shrinking" coming on board, I'm expecting a well-crafted and hilarious take on these universal teenage struggles 😂. The fact that Halpern is co-showrunning it with Patrick Schumacker also makes me think we're gonna get an authentic voice and perspective from the author himself 👍. Of course, casting is key, but if they can pull off a talented young cast, I'm all in for this show 🎉!

Ugh, can you believe it's been 13 years since "I Suck at Girls" was initially shelved? 🤦‍♂️ I mean, I'm stoked that Netflix is reviving the project now! It's awesome to see creators like Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker bringing their own experiences to life. The team behind this show has some serious credentials, too - who wouldn't want to watch a comedy series from people who've worked on "Abbott Elementary", "Shrinking", and "Scrubs"? 🤓 It's gonna be hilarious seeing the ups and downs of teenage romance and identity struggles played out on screen. Fingers crossed that they'll get it just right this time! 💪

idk why netflix would wanna adapt this book into a comedy series tho 🤷‍♂️ it's like they're trying to make 90s nostalgia cool again but honestly i'm not convinced 🤔 it seems like just another show about angsty teens and their love lives 📺 we've seen that before on abbott elementary already and shrinking too 🙄 don't get me wrong, bill lawrence is a genius and all, but can't they do something new for once? 💡

omg, i'm so down for another coming-of-age comedy 🤣💖! i mean, who hasn't been there right? navigating high school drama, crushes, and figuring out your identity is basically everyones story lol. and with this team behind it - halpern, schumacker, lawrence... they're like pros at making us laugh and feel all the feels 😂💕.

i love how this show has a personal touch too. halpern's memoir was like his guide to navigating all this awkward stuff, so i'm hyped to see it come to life on screen 📺. and with netflix giving it a greenlight, fingers crossed we'll get to see it soon! 💪🌟

Umm... I don't know if I'm excited or not about this new Netflix series 🤔. I mean, who doesn't love a good rom-com, right? But at the same time, isn't it kinda weird that they're making a comedy out of someone's memoir about being really bad with girls? It just feels like they're exploiting Justin Halpern's awkward teenage experiences for laughs 😂.

On the other hand... I guess it's cool that some popular creators are attached to this project 🤝. Bill Lawrence and Patrick Schumacker have definitely shown their skills in developing shows like "Abbott Elementary" and "Shrinking". Maybe they can bring a fresh perspective to this story and make it more than just a shallow comedy about awkward teens 😊.

But wait, what if the show ends up being a mess? 🤯 Will Netflix be able to get the casting right and make it work? I don't know, man... my mind is all over the place now 😂
