Never forget a face? You could be a super recogniser – podcast

Are you one of the super recognisers, capable of picking faces out of a crowded room? You can find out with these two simple tests.

Researchers have long been fascinated by people who possess an extraordinary ability known as super recognition. These individuals are able to identify and recall faces from a vast array of images, often with uncanny accuracy. In fact, some studies suggest that up to 10% of the population possesses this unique skill.

So, how do you determine if you're one of these remarkable individuals? Take a look at two tests designed to help you discover your super recognition abilities: the UNSW Face Test and the Super Recognisers Greenwich Test.

The UNSW Face Test asks you to study a series of faces, some familiar and others unknown. You're then asked to identify which faces you've seen before. The test can reveal whether you possess an exceptional ability to recall faces, or if your performance is just average.

On the other hand, the Super Recognisers Greenwich Test involves watching a video of people's faces as they move through a crowded room. Your task is to identify and recall specific individuals, often with surprising accuracy. This test is designed to assess not only your facial recognition skills but also your ability to remember details about the people you've seen.

Whether or not you possess super recognition abilities, taking these tests can provide valuable insights into your unique cognitive strengths and weaknesses. So, are you ready to discover if you're a super recogniser?

I'm like totally fascinated by this whole super recognition thing, reminds me of the old TV show "Face/Off" where they had those agents who could just memorize faces like it was nothing 🤯. Anyway, I think it's pretty cool that scientists are trying to figure out how many people have this ability and what makes us tick. Reminds me of all those true crime documentaries we used to watch back in the day, you know? Anyway, I'm gonna give these tests a shot, but I'm pretty sure my grandma could beat me at them since she's always been super good with faces 😂.

🤔 I think it's pretty cool that there's research on this sort of thing. Like, have you ever seen someone pick out a friend from a huge party and be like "yeah, that's them"? It's like they have a sixth sense or something. Anyway, I've always wondered if people with this ability are just naturally good at reading faces or if there's actually some science behind it 🤓. And the idea of these tests is pretty interesting too - I mean, who wouldn't want to know if they're one of those super recognisers? 😄 It makes sense that there would be people out there with this ability and that researchers are trying to figure out more about it. Maybe we'll discover some new way to understand human brains or something! 💡

I'm kinda curious about this whole super recognition thing 🤔... I mean, how many times have we seen a person's face on TV or social media and just gone "oh yeah, that's so and so"? 😂 It's like our brains are wired to recognize patterns and stuff. But for some people, it's more than that. They can actually remember faces from years ago? That's wild 🤯. I don't know if I'd be good at these tests, but it'd be fun to try, right? 💡 I guess it's all about how our brains process information and stuff...

I'm shocked I didn't know there were people like me... just kidding, of course 🙄. But seriously, 10% of the population having super recognition skills is kinda impressive, right? Like, can we all be that good at recognizing faces in a crowded room? That would make life so much easier, especially for people who work in security or law enforcement.

I'm intrigued by these tests, but I wonder how accurate they are. Are they just a fun way to see if you're "one of them", or can they actually tell you something about your brain's super recognition abilities? Either way, it's definitely a cool idea and might be a great conversation starter at parties...

I'm skeptical about these "tests" 🤔. I mean, how reliable can they be? Anyone can claim to have super recognition abilities just because they've watched some videos or taken a few quizzes. What's the real science behind it? Is it just a case of confirmation bias or are we actually tapping into something real?

And 10% of the population being super recognisers sounds like a pretty low estimate to me 🤷‍♂️. I think there must be some exaggeration going on here. Besides, what's the point of knowing you're good at recognizing faces? Is it just a party trick or is there actual practical use for this skill?

I also don't trust these tests that rely on videos and quizzes 📺. What if you've got a bad day or your brain's not working right? Do they account for those factors? I need more substance behind these claims before I start taking them seriously 💪

I think its pretty cool that researchers are trying to understand this super recognition thing 🤔. I mean, who wouldn't want to know if they have an exceptional memory for faces? Its like having a secret power 💡. The tests sound pretty straightforward, just studying some faces and recognizing people in a crowded room. But the fact that up to 10% of the population might possess this ability is actually kinda mind-blowing 🤯. I wonder what it would be like to have that level of recall in everyday life... could you spot your friends from a mile away? 😊

idk why ppl think it's so cool 2 b able 2 pick faces out of a crowded room lol its just ur brain doin its thang 😂 i mean dont get me wrong i could try the tests but id probably just end up with a headache from staring at all those pics 🤯 and whats with these "tests" anyway? seems like they're just tryna figure out what makes some ppl good @ recognizing faces rather than actually tryin 2 improve it 🤔

I think it's kinda cool that scientists wanna figure out who's got this crazy face-recognizing skill lol 😂 I mean, imagine being able to walk into a party and know exactly which friends are there from all the pics on your phone 👍. But for real tho, it's interesting that like 10% of people supposedly have this ability... does that mean they're more likely to be in law enforcement or something? 🤔 I'm curious to try these tests out tho - who knows what my hidden talent is? 🎯

omg i think its kinda cool that there r people out there who can spot faces in crowds lol 🤯 like i get lost at concerts all the time trying 2 find my friends in the sea of ppl 🌊 but idk if thats true super recognition or just being able to squint really hard 👀 and btw what if its not just about spotting ppl who r familiar face but also recognizing ppl who dont look like ur usual suspects 😎

I'm low-key obsessed with this stuff 🤯! I mean, think about it, being able to pick faces out of a crowded room would be like having X-ray vision for people's mugshots 🕵️‍♀️. It's wild that only 10% of us have this superpower and no one really knows how we do it 😂. I'm definitely taking these tests and seeing what my brain is capable of 💡. Can you imagine being able to recall faces from years ago? That would be insane! 🤯

I'm curious about this super recognition thing... It's like our brains are wired to process faces in a way that some people just excel at, but others don't even notice 🤔. Is it because we've all been socialized to care about facial expressions and relationships from a young age? Or is there something more primal going on? And what does it say about us as individuals when our brains can pick up on these subtle cues? It's like having a superpower that we might not even realize we're using 😊.

I think its kinda cool that theres a percentage of ppl who got this face recog ability lol 😄 10% of us might be able to spot faces outta a crowd, thats wild! 🤯 the tests sound pretty straightforward tho, like, how hard can it be right? 💁‍♀️ I mean, I dont think its necessarily about being good at remembering ppl, its more about being good at spotting patterns or something. either way, its always dope to learn more about ur brain & stuff like that 🧠👀

🤔 I'm like, totally fascinated by this concept of super recognition! Have you ever had those moments where you walk into a party or a crowded room and suddenly remember faces from years ago? 🎉 It's like your brain is wired to recall all these tiny details about people. Anyway, I think it's cool that scientists are studying this stuff, but I also wonder if we're just good at making guesses based on patterns instead of actual face recognition 🔍. Plus, who knew there were two tests out there to help you figure this out? 😂 The UNSW Face Test sounds pretty straightforward, but the Super Recognisers Greenwich Test seems way more interesting - like, watching a crowd and picking out specific people? 📺 That's some impressive stuff!
