New SJ DOCA Festival features holiday light displays inspired by local children's drawings

San Jose's DOCA Festival Brings Community Together with Magical Holiday Light Display

The South Bay is aglow with the newly launched DOCA Festival of Holiday Lights, a dazzling display that promises to bring families and communities together during the holiday season. Opened on Friday night, the festival will run until January 4, 2026, featuring five glowing acres, six magical zones, and over 40 handmade attractions.

The brainchild of co-founders Wan Zhao and Yixin, DOCA Festival is a community-driven initiative aimed at reconnecting people with their inner-child. The idea was born from an art contest where local kids were encouraged to submit their drawings, which inspired the design of some of the festival's artwork. The team then brought these imaginative designs to life through physical structures within the festival.

"We came up with one simple question: how can we bring stories, art and families together to have an immersive experience?" said Wan Zhao. "And here we are." This vision is reflected in the festival's larger-than-life characters in Discovery Meadow, creating a unique holiday experience for families in San Jose.

The DOCA Festival's focus on community and creativity has resonated with attendees, including local kids who had their artwork displayed throughout the festival. "It's very magical to see that happen and see the kids' creativity shine," said Wan Zhao. The festival is also open on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's days, making it a convenient holiday outing for families.

As the holiday season kicks into high gear, San Jose residents can enjoy not one but two festive light displays: DOCA Festival and Christmas in the Park's Blinky's Drive Thru at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds. Both events promise to bring joy and wonder to those who attend.

๐ŸŽ„ This festival is like something out of a dream, you know? It's not just about the lights, it's about creating this magical experience that brings people together as a community. I love how they incorporated local kids' artwork into the design, it's such a cool way to give them a platform and make their creativity shine ๐Ÿคฉ. The fact that it's open on holidays too is genius, so families can enjoy it with minimal fuss. It's like the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit! ๐Ÿ˜Š

omg i went to doca festival last night with my fam ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ก we rode on so many cool rides and played in these super fun zones, but what really got me was when they showed all the art contest entries from kids on a big screen ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘€ it made me remember when i used to draw all day at school lol now im more of a messy adult ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway i think doca festival is such a great idea for san jose its so community driven and beautiful, plus the lights are TO. idk why they chose that specific spot for the festival, feels kinda like it's right next to the old tech hub... what if its not just a coincidence? ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŽ„ they're really pushing this "community-driven" vibe, but is it just a distraction from something else? ๐Ÿค‘ i mean, who came up with the idea of using local kids' artwork for the festival? and why did they choose to have it open on holiday weekends? sounds like a clever marketing ploy to me... ๐Ÿ“ˆ

๐ŸŽ„ I'm loving this idea for a community-driven festival! It's so cool that they're showcasing local kids' artwork and making it interactive - like, have you seen the glowing sculptures in Discovery Meadow? ๐Ÿคฉ They really brought the magic of their drawings to life. The fact that it's open on holidays too is just genius. I can already imagine families flocking there with little ones in tow, all aglow with wonder ๐Ÿ˜Š. lol what's up with these festivals popping up everywhere? like, i know it's the holiday season and all but can't we just stay home in our PJs? anyway, its actually kinda cool that they're doing something community-driven, you feel? the whole "reconnecting people with their inner-child" vibe is pretty deep ๐Ÿคฏ. and omg those handmade attractions sound so extra festive! i'm def gonna have to check this out (or at least look at some vids) ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿผ

The fact that it's community-driven and features local kids' artwork is just the icing on the cake (or should I say, the sparkle on the lights?) ๐ŸŽ…๏ธ. It's amazing how something as simple as an art contest can spark such creativity and wonder. And the fact that it's open on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's days? Genius! Now we have a reason to ditch those holiday blues and get all cozy with our loved ones ๐Ÿ’•. The South Bay is really getting into the holiday spirit this year ๐ŸŽ‰.

man this doca fest is getting so lit ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ”ฅ i mean what's not to love about a whole festival dedicated to bringing back that inner kid magic? it's like san jose came together and said "let's make the holiday season all about wonder and joy" ๐Ÿ’ซ and honestly it shows in the way they've designed this thing. five glowing acres, six magical zones... it's like stepping into a whole new world ๐ŸŒ i'm not even joking when i say my kids saw some of those art pieces that were inspired by local kids' drawings and their eyes just widened like "wow". it's gonna be a great holiday season in san jose for sure ๐ŸŽ„

I'm lovin' this festival idea ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ก! It's so heartwarming to see a community come together like this, especially for the kids. I mean, who doesn't love magical zones and over 40 handmade attractions? ๐Ÿคฏ It's amazing that local kids got to have their artwork displayed throughout the festival - it's like they're shining stars! ๐ŸŒŸ The fact that it's open on major holidays too is a huge bonus, making it super convenient for families. And can we talk about how cool it is that it's all about reconnecting people with their inner-child? I feel like our cities are missing so much magic and wonder lately, and this festival is just the thing to bring some of that back. Plus, who wouldn't want to spend a snowy evening (even if it's not actually snowy in San Jose) surrounded by twinkling lights and festive vibes? It sounds like the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit! ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŒฒ

I'm so down on this whole community-driven festival vibe ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Like, what's wrong with just having a solo light display or something? All these zones and magical characters are just gonna make people feel like kids again... and honestly, I think that's kinda annoying ๐Ÿ˜’. Can't we just appreciate the lights for their own sake instead of trying to recreate some kind of nostalgic wonderland experience? And don't even get me started on how convenient it is that they're open on holidays โ€“ sounds like a total marketing ploy to me ๐Ÿค‘

OMG ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ I just saw the pics of San Jose's DOCA Festival and it's SOOO magical ๐Ÿ”ฎ! They got like 5 acres lit up with colorful lights and 40 handmade attractions ๐Ÿคฏ. The community came together and made this whole thing happen, which is so cool ๐Ÿ’•. And did you see the part where they featured local kids' artwork? That's just pure awesomeness ๐ŸŽจ! I'd totally take my fam there on Christmas or New Year's. Stats: 95% of attendees said it was their favorite holiday event in San Jose, and 82% plan to return next year ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ‘
