New Yorkers' view on Sen. Chuck Schumer has soured following shutdown mess

New York voters' perception of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has hit an all-time low, according to a recent poll. For decades, Schumer was known for his moderate stance and ability to work across party lines, but now, he is viewed unfavorably by nearly half of the state's voters.

The sharp decline in Schumer's favorability rating can be attributed to his handling of the recent government shutdown. Many Progressives who had previously praised Schumer for his stance against President Trump now feel that he did not do enough to fight against the shutdown. The criticism has been intensified by independent and Republican voters, adding another layer of pressure on Schumer.

Schumer's long-standing tradition of holding weekly press conferences and visiting all 62 counties in New York State each year have also seemed less relevant in recent times. In a sign of changing times, his Sunday press events, once highly publicized, are now less frequent.

Former congressman Anthony Weiner described Schumer as an "institutionalist" who is out of touch with the modern era's demands for change. He acknowledged that Schumer may bounce back if Democrats make significant gains in the next year's midterm elections, when Schumer will not be on the ballot again due to his 2028 term limit.

However, some progressive activists are more critical. They point out that Schumer's failure to endorse Zohran Mamdani for mayor suggests he is no longer aligned with the party's core values. Another activist said Schumer is accountable for his party's failure in the shutdown battle.

It remains to be seen if Schumer can recover from this low point, but one thing is clear: New Yorkers are holding him to a higher standard than ever before.

πŸ˜• I feel like we've lost some of that bipartisan spirit that used to make politics so much more palatable. I mean, Chuck Schumer was always the voice of reason in Congress, and now it seems like he's not getting the same break from his own party as he used to. Those Sunday press events were always a highlight for me - now they're just an afterthought? πŸ“° It's like we're expecting so much more from our politicians nowadays, and I don't blame New Yorkers for being disappointed. But at the same time, it's hard not to wonder if Schumer is just a relic of the past... πŸ’”

I'm shocked, like that old VHS player my grandma used to have - you know, the ones with the fuzzy picture πŸ˜…. Schumer's whole image has gone from being all polished and nice to a bit grainy πŸ€”. I mean, I've seen him on TV for years, always smiling and saying nice things, but now it feels like he's just not connecting anymore πŸ’”.

I remember when politicians used to be all about finding common ground, you know, like in those great sitcoms from the 90s like Friends or Seinfeld πŸ“Ί. Nowadays, it seems like everyone's just fighting over who's right 😀. And Schumer gets caught in the middle of it all.

His old ways aren't working anymore, and I think we need to see some new moves from him πŸ’ƒ. I mean, back in my day, politicians could get away with being a bit more... let's say, 'institutional' πŸ˜‰. But times have changed, and Schumer needs to change with them πŸ•°οΈ.

We'll see if he can turn things around, but for now, it's like that old record player - you just keep playing the same song over and over again, hoping it'll get stuck on repeat 😴.

I'm telling you, this is all part of the game πŸ€‘ They're trying to set up Chuck Schumer for a fall and it's working πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, what's really going on with the shutdown? Was it just a minor issue or was something more sinister at play? And what about those weekly press conferences, are they just distractions from the real issues?

And don't even get me started on the whole Zohran Mamdani thing πŸ€” Schumer's not supporting his own party, that's just weak leadership. It's like he's more concerned with being liked by everyone than doing what's right for the people.

I'm no expert, but something doesn't add up here πŸ˜’ I think there's more to this story than meets the eye. Maybe it's time to look beyond the surface and see what's really going on behind the scenes 🎭

OMG 😱 I'm literally dying over here! Chuck Schumer's poll numbers are SO low rn πŸ“‰. Like, what happened to the moderate Schumer we all knew and loved? πŸ€” It seems like he was all about being bipartisan until the shutdown drama went down πŸ’₯. Now, even his own party is turning on him! πŸ‘€ And don't even get me started on that press conference thingy... who needs weekly events when you've got social media, right? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, it's crazy to see how much pressure Schumer is under from both sides of the aisle 🀯. I guess only time will tell if he can recover and be the Schumer we know again πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ€” Schumer's whole vibe is changing man... people used to love the guy for being all moderate and stuff, but now he's just viewed as out of touch 🚫. The shutdown drama didn't help either - it was like he kinda backed down on a bunch of progressive ideals. And yeah, his weekly press conferences and county visits? Not that relatable anymore πŸ“Ί. I feel like we're seeing the end of an era here... Schumer's gotta adapt to the times or risk losing more support πŸ’₯.

OMG you guys I was just thinking about that new season of Stranger Things and how it's like, so intense 🀯 I mean, I love Demogorgon as much as the next person but can we talk about Eleven for a sec? Like, who is this girl? She's got psychokinetic powers and a haircut from the 80s πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈ and she just saves the whole world like it's no big deal πŸ™„. Anyway back to Schumer... I don't know man, I think he needs to step up his game if he wants to win back those progressive voters 🀝. Maybe take a cue from Stranger Things and shake things up a bit? πŸŽ‰

I'm getting old and nostalgic for the good ol' days when politicians like Schumer were all about compromise and working together πŸ™„. Nowadays, it feels like they're either super progressive or total opposers, with no middle ground in sight πŸ˜•. I mean, back in my day, we used to have leaders who could bring people together, but now it's all about party loyalty and being a "team player" πŸ’Ό.

I remember when Schumer was still seen as that moderate guy who could make deals 🀝. Now, he's just another politician who's lost touch with the people 🌎. His weekly press conferences? That was something, back when we didn't have social media to keep us informed 24/7 πŸ“°. And those Sunday press events? Forget about it! πŸ˜‚

It's all just too much for me, and I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one who remembers when politics wasn't so polarized 🀯. Anyway, I guess Schumer's got some work to do to regain the trust of New Yorkers πŸ‘Š.

πŸ€” I feel like Chuck Schumer used to be that guy who could bring people together, you know? Like the adult in the room. But now it seems like he's just caught in this perpetual cycle of being seen as either too left or too right. And honestly, it's a bit disheartening. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ I mean, don't get me wrong, he's still got his moderate cred and all that, but at the same time, Progressives are still kinda miffed with him for not doing enough to take down Trump. It's like, one minute you're a hero, next minute you're a villain? πŸ˜’ And can we talk about how out of touch he seems? I mean, those Sunday press events used to be all the rage, but now they just seem so...stale. πŸ“°

πŸ€” I'm telling you, something fishy is going on with Chuck Schumer. He used to be all about working across the aisle and finding common ground, but now he's suddenly become some kind of hardliner? 🚫 It just doesn't add up. And don't even get me started on those press conferences - was it ever really that important for him to visit every single county in NY State every year? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I mean, what's the real reason behind all this? Is it just a clever PR stunt to make himself look more relevant? Or is something more sinister at play? 🚨 Let me tell you, I'm keeping an eye on this one... 😏

I gotta say, I'm not surprised by this poll results 😐... I've been following Chuck Schumer for years and he's always been known for being the adult in the room type. But times change and politicians have to adapt or get left behind πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. It's tough when you're in a position of power and people are watching your every move 24/7.

I think this is an opportunity for Schumer to take a step back, re-evaluate his approach, and figure out what the party really needs him to do these days πŸ’‘. I'm not saying he did anything wrong during that shutdown, but maybe it was a case of playing it too safe? You can't just go along with the status quo all the time - there gotta be some bold moves πŸ”„.

It's also interesting that people are holding Schumer to a higher standard now... I think that's a good thing! As a voter, you want your leaders to be accountable and fight for what they believe in πŸ’ͺ. But at the same time, you don't want them to get too caught up in trying to please everyone - sometimes you gotta take a stand and ruffle some feathers πŸ”₯.

πŸ€” I don't get why Schumer's reputation took such a hit after dealing with the government shutdown 🚫. He was always known for being reasonable and working with others across party lines 🀝, so it doesn't make sense that people would be mad at him for trying to find common ground πŸ˜•. And what's up with these weekly press conferences and visits to all 62 counties? πŸ—ΊοΈ I mean, I get it, he wanted to connect with people, but now it just seems like a lot of effort πŸ’ͺ. I guess times are changing and Schumer needs to adapt πŸ“ˆ. Maybe he'll bounce back if Democrats do well in the next election 🀞, but for now, he's got a tough road ahead of him 😬

idk about schumer tho πŸ€” - i mean he used to be the guy who was all about bipartisan deal making, and now suddenly his own party's turning on him? what changed? πŸ€‘ and can we talk about this shutdown drama? it sounds like a classic case of democrats blaming each other for losing control πŸ™„ and meanwhile schumer's just trying to hold it together πŸ‘Š but honestly tho, i think this whole situation is being blown way outta proportion... where's the source on these poll numbers tho? πŸ€” what kind of methodology are we looking at here? want more info before passing judgement πŸ“Š

omg what happened to chuck schumer he used to be so likable πŸ€” I mean i get it voters have short memories and all that but 50% of new yorkers dont like him anymore thats crazy especially after all the years he held those press conferences in every county lol now they just do saturdays instead πŸ˜‚ and whats with this shutdown thingy didnt he try to negotiate πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ idk maybe shumer just needs some time out or somethin πŸ‘€ but these progressive activists sound pretty legit about him being out of touch πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

I feel bad for Chuck Schumer, you know? He's been doing politics for so long and everyone loved him for being all moderate and stuff. But now it seems like he's losing the trust of some people. It's crazy how one decision can make such a big impact on his reputation. I'm not surprised that the progressive voters are upset, though - they want change and Schumer didn't do enough to fight against the shutdown. 😐

But you know what? I think this is an opportunity for Schumer to prove himself all over again! He's got another year before he retires, so maybe he can learn from his mistakes and come back even stronger. πŸ’ͺ And who knows, maybe the Democrats will make some big gains in the next election and Schumer will be able to bounce back. 🀞 Let's keep our fingers crossed for him! πŸ™

omg have u guys tried that new coffee shop downtown? 🀩 i went there last wknd and it's literally the best coffee i've had in ages! they use this special blend of beans from like, some small farm in java or something... anyway, back to Schumer lol... think his problem is he's getting too comfy in his role. he needs to take more risks and listen to the people more, you know? not just do what's easy and convenient πŸ˜…

πŸ€” I'm really surprised by this poll results, you know? Schumer used to be like, the ultimate deal-maker, right? But now, it's like he's lost touch with his own party. I mean, what happened to all those weekly press conferences and county visits? It's just not as relatable anymore πŸ“°πŸ—ΊοΈ. And now, people are expecting him to fight harder for their values? That's a lot of pressure on one guy 😬. But at the same time, I get it. Schumer did seem kinda mellow during that shutdown. Maybe he needs to shake things up a bit πŸ’₯. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the next elections ⏰.

I'm so done with Schumer's lack of progressiveness πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ! He's been playing it safe for years and now that the times have changed, he's struggling to keep up. I mean, what happened to the Chuck Schumer we knew? The one who actually stood up for progressive values? Now he just seems like a relic of the past πŸ’”. His handling of the shutdown was underwhelming at best, and let's be real, it's not like he really had anything to lose by taking a bold stance against Trump πŸ™„. And don't even get me started on his Sunday press events – I'm so over those. Can't he just stay in touch with what's going on? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The fact that former congressman Anthony Weiner is calling him out as an "institutionalist" who's out of touch is pretty telling. Maybe it's time for Schumer to take a hard look at his own politics and figure out if he's still got what it takes πŸ’ͺ.

omg u guys i'm surprised to see chuck schumer's favorability rating tank so hard 🀯 he used to be all about being the moderate voice in the senate but now its like ppl r demanding more from him lol his sunday press events used to be the big deal, now theyre just a thing of the past πŸ“°

i feel bad for schumer tho, he's been doing this job 4 decades and u gotta respect that. but idk if being an institutionalist is really what ppl want in leadership rn maybe hes gonna bounce back in the midterms? 🀞 we'll c, but one thing s 4 sure, new yorkers r holding him to a higher standard than ever b4 πŸ‘€
