I don’t usually comment but I think this exhibition is a game changer ! It's so cool that they're finally giving these talented Nigerian artists the recognition they deserve after being overlooked for so long. The fact that it's not just about showcasing their work, but also exploring how their cultural heritage and community networks played a huge role in shaping their art is really inspiring . I mean, who wouldn't want to see more of Uzo Egonu's bold paintings? And it's amazing how curator Osei Bonsu is using this exhibition as an opportunity to correct the oversight of Nigerian Modernism in mainstream art history – it's like a cultural restoration in real time! . It's definitely making me think differently about what modern African art looks like and its significance globally
man this exhibit is lit! I mean, i'm all for giving nigeria the recognition it deserves in the art world but it's crazy how much they've been overlooked till now. 59 artists over 50 years? that's a whole lot of talented people to be missing from the mainstream. and can we talk about how diverse this exhibit is? from aina onabolu's portraits to jimo akolo's horsemen series, it's like they're showing us what nigeria looks like in all its complexity
and i love how curator osei bonsu is highlighting these artists' struggles to get their work out there. it's not just about the art itself, but about the cultural heritage and community networks that made them successful. it's a testament to the power of hope in the face of adversity
