NY lawmakers call on Gov. Hochul to cover SNAP food benefits with surplus funds

this is so fishy 🤔... I mean think about it - governor Hochul says its federal responsibility but then lawmakers and progressive groups start arguing that states can help out? its like hes playing both sides, you know? 🤑...and what about those letters to Hochul with 250 labor groups on them? thats just too convenient 📨...I dont trust this whole thing one bit. 🚫

Imagine this :

+---------------+

Gov Hochul
(holding
a bag of
groceries)

+---------------+

Governor Hochul is like that person, always holding the bag of groceries - but she's not sharing it with everyone. She says it's a federal responsibility funded by New Yorkers' taxes.

But what if we redraw this scenario?
+---------------+

State Funds
( overflowing)

+---------------+

Some lawmakers think there are enough state funds and higher-than-expected tax collections to absorb the federal hit. It's like adding more milk to the bag of groceries.

It's not just about New York, though. Other states are stepping up to help with SNAP benefits, like Virginia and Vermont. Maybe we should be doing the same?

The problem is that Congress is still stuck in a gridlock. It's like they're trying to figure out how to get the milk from the carton into the bag without spilling anything.

We just have to hope that somehow, someway, they'll find a way to share that groceries bag among everyone 🤞

omg can't believe ny gov is being so stingy rn 🤯 governor hochul needs to step up & use some state funds to help those in need like, we all know the feds aren't gonna come through 💸 SNAP recipients are literally struggling to access basic groceries cuz of this government shutdown 🍎 and it's not just about politics, it's about people's lives. i get that state funds should be used sparingly, but this is a human crisis we need gov hochul & lawmakers to work together ASAP ⏰

OMG, this is so sad 🤕! I feel like Governor Hochul is being super unfair by not using state surplus funds to help out those who really need it 🤑. I mean, just because it's a federal program doesn't mean that New York state should be left holding the bag 💸. My son struggles with food insecurity sometimes and it breaks my heart thinking about families having to choose between paying rent/mortgage or buying groceries 🍔🥤. Some states are doing their part by covering the gap, like Virginia and Vermont...why can't NY do the same? 🤷‍♀️ I wish Governor Hochul would just listen to her lawmakers and those who care about this issue 😊. The holiday season is coming up and so many people will be struggling - it's just not right 🎄😔

🤔 This SNAP situation is super concerning in NY. I mean, we're talking about ppl struggling 2 get basic necessities like groceries. The gov't shutdown is literally putting lives at risk. 🚨 Can't stress enough how messed up it is that lawmakers can't even agree on funding this program. It's like they think someone else will just step in & bail them out.

And, honestly, Governor Hochul's stance is kinda reasonable - it's a federal program, after all. But at the same time, I get where the progressive groups are coming from. Like, there's enough money in state funds to cover this gap. It's not like we're talking about some huge expense here.

The thing that really gets me is how some states are taking initiative & using their own surplus funds 2 help ppl. That's what it's all about - finding common ground & working together. It's too bad the impasse in Congress keeps dragging this out. What's next, ppl struggling 2 afford Christmas dinner? 🎄😬
