NYC councilmembers share sage, salty and conflicting advice for newbies

OMG I totally feel like these veteran lawmakers are being so extra with their advice lol they're literally trying to prepare the newbies for the real deal but at the same time I'm like yay more people who get it! Gale Brewer's point about staying connected with constituents is SO on point, and Julie Menin's warning about consistency is a huge one too. And can we talk about how refreshing it is that Althea Stevens is owning her impostor syndrome and being authentic? I'm all about that transparency life 💖👏 Jennifer Gutiérrez's advice about staying humble and treating staff well is also seriously inspiring, let's build a support system 💕

omg i think its so cool that old timers are passing on their wisdom to newbies 🤝! like gale brewer's tip about staying connected with constituents is SO true - it makes such a big difference when politicians actually listen to ppl 💬! and frank morano's joke about punctuality? too funny 😂. julie menin's advice about being consistent & not trying to appease everyone is also super relevant in today's politics 🤝. i think its awesome that althea stevens credits her own self-doubt for becoming a more authentic leader 💪! and jennifer gutierrez's reminder to stay humble & treat staff well? totally on point 👏👍

omg I just saw the cutest video of a puppy learning to walk on its hind legs 🐶😂 and it totally made me think about how much NYC needs more dog parks! like can't we just add some more green spaces for our furry friends? I'm pretty sure Gale Brewer's advice on constituent work is super relevant to volunteering at the Central Park dog park, btw...

I'm so sick of career politician excuses 🤦‍♂️! If I were them, I'd rather just be real and honest from day one instead of trying to sugarcoat everything. These old-timers are like "oh, don't stress about being on time" - when did that become an option? Priorities, people! You can't run a city if you're constantly late 🕰️. And what's with all the advice to "do constituent work"? That sounds like just an excuse to be out of office more often 😒. I'd rather hear some hard truths about the system and how to actually make a difference, not feel-good nonsense about staying connected with voters.

Wow 😂 I'm like totally surprised that old-timers in NYC are offering honest tips to newbies! They're saying be genuine, listen to constituents, and don't stress about punctuality lol. It's actually pretty cool how they're trying to help out. Julie Menin making tough choices is a great point too, it shows she's not afraid to stand by her convictions.
