NYPD looking for man accused of setting homeless subway rider on fire at Penn Station

A 56-year-old homeless man suffered serious burns after a suspect set his pants ablaze at Penn Station early Monday morning. The alleged assault occurred around 3 a.m. when the victim was sleeping on a northbound 3 train as it pulled into the 34th Streetโ€“Penn Station stop in Midtown.

According to police, the suspect entered the train car, doused the victim's pants with an accelerant and then ignited them. The man fled the scene by boarding another northbound 3 train, but authorities are still investigating whether this is the same train he rode on initially.

First responders rushed the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he received treatment for severe leg burns. Police are now searching for a suspect last seen wearing a gray jacket, black hat, and dark-colored clothing.

This incident echoes a similar case from nearly a year ago, when a 57-year-old homeless woman was set on fire aboard an F train in Brooklyn, resulting in her death. A suspect has since been charged with murder and arson, but the case remains ongoing as the defendant maintains his innocence.

If anyone has information about Monday's incident, police are urging them to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online through their website.

Man, it's like we're living in some scary video game out there ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, who sets someone on fire at Penn Station? Like, what's going on with these people? It's so not okay to leave someone lying there and just walk away... that's just not right ๐Ÿ˜”. Reminds me of that other incident last year, where some woman got set on fire on the F train in Brooklyn... it's like we're reliving a nightmare over here ๐ŸŒช๏ธ.

I'm glad the first responders were able to rush the guy to the hospital and get him the help he needed, but seriously, how many people have to go through this before something changes? It's just so frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ค. I wish people could see that what they're doing is causing harm and hurting others... ๐Ÿ™.

Anyway, if anyone has any info about this incident, please come forward and share it with the authorities. We need to make sure justice is served and these kinds of things don't happen anymore ๐Ÿš”.

I'm totally sure that setting someone on fire is just a prank gone wrong ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ, I mean, who does such a thing? But then again, have you seen the state of homelessness in this city lately? Like, how can people afford to dress up fancy enough for a crime like this? It's either a very well-planned heist or someone just really needed a good excuse to get out of paying their subway fare ๐Ÿค‘. I'm not saying it's okay to set someone on fire, but maybe we should be talking about the root cause of homelessness and how we can better support people in need instead of always looking for easy villains ๐Ÿค”.

Ugh, this is so disturbing ๐Ÿค•. But let's not focus on the negativity, okay? This guy suffered some serious burns but he's alive and receiving treatment ๐Ÿ’ช. That's something to be grateful for, right? And can we please talk about how this incident highlights the need for increased support and resources for our homeless community? We need to make sure they have access to safe shelters, healthcare, and counseling services ๐Ÿค. It's time for us to come together and create a more compassionate society ๐Ÿ’•.

ugh its just so messed up that this homeless guy got burned like that ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. i mean, can't people just show some basic human kindness? it's not too much to ask for someone to be left alone in the morning. and now he's gotta deal with the trauma of getting set on fire... ๐Ÿค• it's crazy how this reminds me of that other incident last year where a homeless woman died from being set on fire on the subway. what's going on here? is there just a lack of empathy or something? ๐Ÿค” police are still looking for the suspect, but it feels like they're not doing enough to prevent these types of incidents from happening in the first place...

man that's so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ what's going on with this world ppl can't even walk down the street without some psycho tryna hurt someone ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ like what is wrong with people these days? and another homeless person, how many more have to go through this ๐Ÿ˜ฉ it's just not right. we need to do better as a society, take care of each other ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and make sure ppl like that are getting the help they need ๐Ÿค

This is just another tragic reminder that our society still hasn't figured out how to deal with the most vulnerable among us - folks living on the streets ๐Ÿค•. I mean, what's it gonna take for us to treat each other with kindness and compassion? This homeless man was just trying to get some rest, and what does he gets? Set on fire in broad daylight ๐Ÿ’”. It's heartbreaking, but let's be real, we all gotta ask ourselves if our actions reflect the values we want to live by ๐Ÿค”. Can we do better? Must we do better? The answer lies within each of us ๐Ÿ‘€.

OMG, can't believe this guy suffered those serious burns ๐Ÿ˜ฑ at Penn Station like what if he didn't make it? ๐Ÿค• The fact that the suspect just casually sets someone's pants ablaze and then flees is so crazy ๐Ÿ˜ก. I feel for the victim and his family, hope they get the help they need ASAP ๐Ÿ’•. And honestly, another incident of this sort happening in such a short time makes me wonder if there's a bigger issue at play here ๐Ÿค”. Maybe something's being missed by authorities? Anyway, gotta commend the police on trying to catch the suspect, fingers crossed they get him soon ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

man... like, have you ever noticed how pigeons just chill on train tracks everywhere? they're so calm, right? and it's crazy how people can get so desperate that they do stuff like set someone on fire ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ’จ anyway, back to the homeless guy... what's up with the state of homelessness in NYC lately? seems like there are more people living on the streets than ever, and not enough resources being put towards solving the problem.

Ugh, this is so messed up ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ก... I mean, can't people just leave each other alone? Like, seriously, how many times have we seen something like this happen and it's just... same old same old ๐Ÿ™„. Poor dude gets set on fire for no reason, and now he's gonna be dealing with those nasty burns forever ๐Ÿค•. And what really gets me is that the cops are still trying to figure out if it's the same train he got on initially... like, come on! Just get a grip already ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, I know we can't control everything, but can't people just treat others with some basic human decency? It's just so frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ค.

Man that guy who set that homeless dude on fire is literally gonna get away with this cuz the justice system is too slow ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Like, what's the point of having laws if they ain't enforced? I mean, I know we gotta have some wiggle room for our courts to figure out stuff and all but come on, 3 years later a girl from Brooklyn still hasn't seen justice. And now another homeless dude nearly loses his leg... it's just not fair ๐Ÿค•. We need to do better than that as a society ๐Ÿ™.

๐Ÿค• just heard about this insane thing that happened at Penn Station. like, setting someone's pants on fire is just horrific... how can someone be so cruel? ๐Ÿšซ and the fact that it's a repeat of something that already happened last year just makes my blood boil ๐Ÿ˜ก. i feel bad for the guy who got burned, hope he recovers quickly ๐Ÿ’•. why does this stuff happen to vulnerable people like homeless folks? shouldn't we all look out for each other? ๐Ÿค

man... homeless people get torched like they're nothing ๐Ÿคฏ this is just crazy. it's like we've reached a point where people think burning someone alive is an acceptable way to deal with their problems, but what's wrong with us as a society? can't we see that setting someone on fire is literally the most heinous crime you can commit?! ๐Ÿšซ and now they're going to investigate if it was the same train... like what's the difference?! the guy got burned, he's gonna die, no matter what ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

omg what a terrible thing to happen ๐Ÿค•... i dont get why ppl do this kind of thing 2 innocent people, like he was just sleeping on the train... and then theres another case from last year where it happened too? thats so sad ๐Ÿ˜”. i feel bad 4 the guy who got hurt, hes still trying 2 recover from his burns... anywya, doesnt ppl in NYC have CCTV cameras everywhere now? u would think that would help catch these people ASAP ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ก. also, isnt there like a homeless shelter or something where ppl can go 2 get some basic necessities? idk, just feelin kinda confused abt all this ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

OMG u guys r soooo worried bout dis homeless dude ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’‰ i mean dont get me wrong he did jus get set on fire but like can't we be more concerned bout the ppl makin life hard 4 him on da streets in da 1st place? ๐Ÿค” like what r we gonna do bout homelessness in nyc? just another case of ppl bein desperate & takin it out on vulnerable ppl. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ฃ

Ugh man ๐Ÿค• this is so messed up... I don't even know what's going on with all these random acts of violence happening everywhere especially in our public transportation system. Like, can't people just coexist peacefully anymore? ๐Ÿ™„ The fact that someone would do something like set a homeless guy on fire just because he was sleeping on the train is just sickening ๐Ÿ˜ท. I feel so bad for the victim and his family, they must be going through some crazy stuff right now ๐Ÿ’”. And now we're hearing about another incident from last year where a woman died under similar circumstances... it's like these random acts of hate are just becoming more and more common ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm not sure what's driving people to do this stuff but something needs to be done ASAP ๐Ÿšจ.

๐Ÿ˜ฑ like waaat is goin on with these homeless ppl? one minute they're tryna live on the streets & survive, next min they get caught up in this senseless violence ๐Ÿคฏ 56yo burn victim could've been anyone, anywhere, but noooo he got picked at Penn Station ๐Ÿ˜ค 1 year ago it happened to another homeless woman & now another guy gets torched? when will ppl realize this is not the answer ๐Ÿ’” 2 things: we need 2 do more 2 prevent these incidents (more shelters, more services) & we need 2 support our homeless community like they deserve love & care ๐Ÿค

omg that's so cruel ๐Ÿ’” can't believe someone would do something like that to another human being. i'm glad the victim got medical help quickly, hope he recovers fully ๐Ÿคž it's just so sad when people are treated like this on our streets. homeless ppl deserve kindness & respect too ๐Ÿ‘ the fact that this is a repeat of a similar incident last year is really disturbing too...it feels like we're not making progress in keeping our public spaces safe for everyone ๐Ÿšซ

omg what's going on with these ppl?? first we got this homeless guy getting set on fire at penn station and now another homeless woman died in a similar situation last year?! it's like ppl think they're above the law or somethin' ๐Ÿคฏ anyway, authorities gotta do better to catch these suspects ASAP so they can't hurt anyone else ๐Ÿ’” NYPD needs to step up their game ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh, can you believe this guy's pants were on fire? I mean, who does that? Sounds like someone had a bad hair day... literally! ๐Ÿคฃ On a more serious note, it's crazy that this is happening to homeless people again. It feels like the system is just failing them at every turn. Anyway, if anyone knows anything about the suspect, hit 'em up with Crime Stoppers, no need to be shy, dude! ๐Ÿ˜‰
