NYPD says 2 officers injured during Washington Heights ICE chase

Two New York City Police officers were left with minor injuries after a tense encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Washington Heights on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when multiple residents called 911, reporting four armed men pulling people out of cars in the neighborhood.

As NYPD officers arrived on the scene to investigate, they spotted a group of individuals chasing someone near 164th Street and Broadway. Initially, the officers jumped out of their vehicles to intervene, only to realize that the pursuers were actually ICE agents. The agents had not identified themselves with visible markings, which raised concerns about whether the NYPD's interactions were truly necessary.

According to authorities, the officers suffered minor injuries during the interaction with the agents. Despite this, a second incident in the same area was captured on camera by local resident Peter Green, showing ICE agents pulling a man from his car. In a statement, Councilmember Shaun Abreu described the scene as "deeply disturbing" and condemned what he called an "intimidating pattern of behavior" carried out by ICE.

The Department of Homeland Security has responded to criticism from Abreu, stating that ICE agents are facing increased threats and assaults due to their work. However, the spokesperson did not address the interaction between the NYPD officers and the ICE agents.

ICE arrested one person during the incident, described as an "illegal alien from Guinea." As tensions rise over immigration enforcement in New York City, residents are increasingly questioning the presence of federal agencies on local streets.

man what's goin' on with these ice agents? they're like ninjas or somethin', show up outta nowhere and start snatchin' people left and right... I mean I get it they gotta enforce the law but do they have to be so aggressive all the time? ๐Ÿค”โ€โ™‚๏ธ

and another thing what's with the no markings on their uniforms? that's just plain weird... shouldn't we at least know who's comin' after us with a pair of handcuffs? ๐Ÿšจ

anyway I'm glad those NYPD officers are okay but can you believe they had to deal with all that drama in the first place? and now people are all like "ice is outta control" which kinda makes sense... we need more transparency here, not less ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿค” this is getting crazy... NYC is always a hot spot for tension but it's wild that ICE agents just showed up outta nowhere and started causing drama. I mean I get that they're trying to do their job but can't they at least wear some kinda ID badge or somethin'? I'm tryna believe it was a mistaken identity situation but those officers were hurt which is pretty alarming... ๐Ÿšจ

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ people need to chill, but at the same time, who is right here? Like, ICE agents are supposed to be enforcing laws, not causing scenes on the street... Interesting ๐Ÿ˜’ NYPD got hurt, which is no good, but what's with all these confrontations? Shouldn't they just call it a day and leave each other alone? But then again, someone's gotta enforce the law, right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

can't believe this is happening again in NYC ๐Ÿคฏ. i mean, what even is going on? officers are doing their job, trying to keep the peace and then they get jumped by ICE agents who don't even identify themselves. it's like, hello, you're supposed to be serving us not hurting each other. and now there's this video of someone getting pulled out of his car... that's just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. i'm not saying ICE doesn't have a tough job but does it really need to resort to intimidation tactics? the cops are getting hurt and the community is getting scared. we need some clarity here, you know? and what about all these new laws and policies that are supposed to help with immigration enforcement... they're just causing more problems ๐Ÿค”.

This is getting super crazy! ๐Ÿคฏ I'm all for keeping our communities safe, but come on, ICE agents showing up unmarked and causing a scene? That's just not right ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And what about the NYPD officers who got hurt trying to do their job? ๐Ÿš‘ These kinds of incidents need to be looked into ASAP so we can figure out how to prevent them from happening again.

I mean, I get it that ICE agents are facing threats and all, but can't they just wear their badges like everyone else? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ And what's up with the lack of visibility about who these agents are supposed to be? It's like they're hiding in plain sight ๐Ÿ‘€. This whole situation is just a recipe for disaster, especially when it comes to trust between law enforcement and our communities.

We need some real answers here, not just more spin from ICE ๐Ÿ”„. Our city should be a place where everyone feels safe and respected, regardless of their immigration status. It's time for some serious reform and transparency ๐Ÿ’ก.

๐Ÿคฏ I'm so fuming about this! How can ICE just be doing whatever they want and not even wear their badge? It's like they think they're above the law or something. And what really gets me is that our own police officers were put in harm's way because of it. Like, what if they hadn't jumped out to stop the chase? Who knows what could've happened? ๐Ÿšจ

And Councilmember Abreu is totally right, this is an intimidating pattern of behavior and we need to stand up against it. We can't just sit back and let these people do whatever they want without consequences. I'm so tired of hearing about ICE and their aggressive tactics. It's time for some real change ๐Ÿšซ

can you believe what's going down? some dude calls 911 thinking four armed guys are chasing ppl around and next thing u know nypd officers jump out to stop them but it's ICE agents instead... like who does that?! ๐Ÿ˜‚ these officers got hurt for no reason and councilmember Abreu is calling it out - its not cool that ice is just running around w/ guns and intimidating ppl. DHS is saying ice agents are under attack but no mention of the interaction between nypd & ice... seems fishy to me ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค• This incident is a big deal, you know? Like, how are we supposed to trust these ICE agents when they're not even wearing their uniforms? I mean, what's next? They show up in plain clothes and just start making arrests? It feels like they're trying to intimidate people into being quiet about the issues with immigration enforcement. And the NYPD got hurt doing it too... that's not okay. The fact that Councilmember Abreu is speaking out against this is huge though, because we need more voices of reason in this conversation. We can't just let these agencies run roughshod over our communities without questioning what's going on. ๐Ÿšจ

just heard about this on reddit... so many questions here ๐Ÿค” and i gotta say, what's up with ice not identifying themselves? it's like they're trying to be all secretive and stuff ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. anyway, it's not just about the ice agents, it's about how the cops reacted too ๐Ÿšจ. minor injuries? what does that even mean? could've been a lot worse ๐Ÿค•. i get that ice has a tough job, but can't they just communicate with people instead of pulling them outta cars? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ท

OMG, what's goin' on here?! ๐Ÿคฏ I was just talkin' to my auntie about this and she said back in her day, they used to just let people be 'cause it wasn't a big deal. Now it feels like everyone's on high alert and stuff gets hairy. Like, these ICE agents show up unmarked and NYPD is all "What's good?" Meanwhile, locals are callin' 911 'cause someone's pullin' ppl outta cars ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

I'm not tryna be a hater or nothin', but it feels like there's a lot of mistrust goin' around. Councilmember Abreu's right, though โ€“ that scene lookin' super intense ๐Ÿค•. The DHS is all "Oh, we're under attack!" ๐Ÿšจ, but can't they just address the actual issue? I mean, what if NYPD had done somethin' wrong? Would've been a major scandal, fam ๐Ÿ‘Š.

We need to chill out and talk about these issues like adults, not just shoutin' "Immigration enforcement is outta control!" ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Can't we all just get along? Or at least try, you know? ๐Ÿค—

I'm really concerned about what's going on here ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. If those ICE agents hadn't identified themselves with a clear badge or uniform, I wouldn't blame the NYPD officers for jumping into action to protect their community. It's easy to say now that they overreacted, but in the heat of the moment, it's hard to know what's really going on. The fact that the officers were left with minor injuries just adds to the worry - it could've been a lot worse! And now we're seeing videos like this one showing ICE agents being super aggressive and intimidating... it's scary for innocent people.

I'm getting a bad vibe about this... it's like something out of a movie, you know? ICE agents showing up and being all aggressive like that? It's just so... intense ๐Ÿคฏ. And what really gets my goat is that they didn't even identify themselves properly, which makes me wonder if the NYPD was totally justified in jumping into action. I mean, I get it, someone's life is at risk, but you gotta think about those little blue uniforms and the fact that they're just trying to do their job.

I'm also thinking about how this must be affecting the community, having all these tensions rise up around immigration enforcement. It feels like we're living in a time of heightened fear and uncertainty, where people are getting caught in the middle of all this drama. And what really worries me is that it's not just about ICE agents or NYPD officers - it's about how we treat each other as human beings ๐Ÿค. We need to find a way to calm down and figure out how to resolve these issues peacefully, you know?

I dont think its right when ppl from different agencies start chasing each other down the street ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ ICE agents need to have some sort of ID on them so we know who's who. Its not like they're just gonna be walking around and start pulling ppl outta cars without warning. And what if thats the person who needs help? NYPD should've just stayed in their cars until they figured out whats goin on ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿค” This whole thing is super concerning, ya know? I mean, I get that ICE agents have a tough job, but it's crazy that they didn't even identify themselves properly. That's some sketchy stuff right there. And what's up with the whole 'they're facing increased threats and assaults' excuse from DHS? That just sounds like they're trying to deflect blame. It's not like NYPD officers are always at fault here, you know? This situation is all about accountability, especially when it comes to interactions between law enforcement and immigration agencies. We need more transparency and clearer guidelines on how these situations should be handled ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿšจ just saw this news about those NYC police officers getting hurt by ICE agents and I'm like totally shook ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Like, what's going on here? Can't we all just get along? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ It's crazy that the agents didn't even have their IDs out or anything. Just imagine if it were the other way around and NYPD was chasing down people from ICE... would we be having this conversation? ๐Ÿค” Anyway, I'm glad no one was seriously hurt but we gotta call out when these agencies are being super aggressive ๐Ÿ˜’. It's all about de-escalation and communication, fam ๐Ÿ’ฌ.
