Oklahoma prisoner's life spared moments before scheduled execution – video

A last-minute reprieve has saved the life of an Oklahoma inmate who was set to be executed by lethal injection on Tuesday, according to a recent report. The prisoner, identified as Donald Ray Totten, had been scheduled to die for the 2000 murder of his wife, but a stay of execution was granted just hours before the scheduled time.

According to eyewitnesses, Totten appeared calm and collected in the moments leading up to his potential execution. A video recorded by a fellow inmate shows Totten sitting quietly in his cell, staring straight ahead with no visible signs of distress or panic.

The reprieve came after an appeals court overturned a lower court's decision to deny Totten's request for clemency, paving the way for a final review of his case by the Oklahoma Pardons and Parole Board. A board spokesperson confirmed that Totten had indeed received a stay of execution, bringing an end to the scheduled execution.

While details surrounding Totten's decision not to carry out the execution remain unclear, experts speculate that the prisoner may have been influenced by the prospect of remaining incarcerated for another 15 years rather than facing death.

I don't know what's more shocking - that Totten was sentenced to die in the first place or that he chose to stay behind bars instead of facing a life of hard labor 🤔👊. It's like, think about it, 15 more years is still gonna be tough for him, but at least he gets to live, you know? Some people say it was just about avoiding the harsh reality of prison life and all its struggles, I'm not sure if that's true, but one thing's for sure, justice system can be pretty messed up sometimes 😕🤷‍♀️.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing, you know? I mean, can't believe they were gonna execute him just hours away... it's crazy! 🤯 Like, what even is that? The guy had been sitting in his cell, calm as a cucumber, and we're just chillin' watching it go down on our screens. Meanwhile, there's this huge drama unfolding in the background, and nobody's thinking about the actual human being behind all the stats and numbers.

And then that appeals court comes along and throws a wrench into everything... I guess you could say Totten got a second chance, or like, a reprieve? It's wild how these things can be so unpredictable. I mean, what was going through his mind when they told him it was all off? Was he relieved? Angry? Confused? We'll never know for sure, but one thing's for sure - this whole ordeal has got me thinking...

I'm so relieved to hear about Donald Ray Totten's reprieve 🙏! It's crazy how last-minute things can change in a situation like this. I feel bad for his family, though - it's been 25 years since the murder happened. You'd think he'd have gotten what was coming to him by now 😔. But hey, at least we got some answers out of this. The idea that he might not want death just because he'll be stuck in prison for another 15 years makes sense... it's like, why would you want to end your own life over a longer sentence? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, glad he's still breathing 👍!

omg i'm so relieved!! 🙏💕 can't believe they gave him a second chance! hope he gets to turn his life around and make amends in some way. feels like we're seeing a glimmer of hope that justice isn't always black & white, there's room for mercy & compassion too 😊

Wow 😮 this is crazy how a reprieve can change everything in like hours 🕰️ it's mind-blowing that Donald Ray Totten was just chillin in his cell waiting for execution and then suddenly gets a stay of execution 💥

😒 Man, this is just so crazy! I mean, can you even imagine being on death row and then having your execution stayed like it's no big deal? Like, don't get me wrong, I'm all about second chances and all that, but 15 more years in prison sounds like a whole lotta stress for Totten. And what's up with the appeals court overturning the lower court's decision like it was just a formality or something? 🤔 It's just wild how these cases can go on and on like that.

I'm kinda curious to know what went down in Totten's head, though. Was he really thinking about the long-term implications of staying incarcerated or was there something else at play? Maybe some last-minute deal went down or someone from his past came knocking? 🤝 The fact remains, though - life (or in this case, prison) goes on, and Totten's gotta adjust to a whole new reality now. 💔

😊 just heard about this crazy turn of events in Oklahoma 🤯 and I gotta say, it's giving me all the feels 😌 think about an inmate who was literally counting down to his own execution but then gets a reprieve at the last minute... 15 more years in prison instead of eternal rest? 🕰️ that has to be a weighty burden to bear, right? 🤔 I'm trying not to get too caught up in the "what ifs" but honestly, it's hard not to wonder what drove Donald Ray Totten to ask for clemency in the first place... maybe it's some kind of twisted logic that's easier to live with than facing death 💭

🤔 This is so crazy! Like, you'd think someone who's already been sentenced to die would be all messed up mentally or something, but apparently not Donald Ray Totten... 😕 I mean, he just sits there calmly like he's watching a movie? 🍿 What was going through his mind at that point? And 15 more years in prison is still pretty harsh... did the appeals court even consider the fact that he'd already been locked up for over 20 years? 🤷‍♂️

idk why ppl think executin someone is a way to serve justice lol like what even is that... dont get me wrong, if u did somethin wrong, u should pay for it, but can't we just have rehabilitation & tryin 2 fix the person instead? this guy's wife was murdered by him, so yeah, punishment is due, but 15 years in prison seems like a pretty big deal too... wonder what really went down in that cell tho

"Experience is rarely a reliable guide to the future." 🤔 It seems like life is full of twists and turns, even in the most unexpected ways. I mean, who would've thought that an inmate's last-minute reprieve would save their life? The fact that they stayed calm before their potential execution just shows you how strong one can be under pressure. Maybe it's better to think about all the things we don't know what will happen next instead of getting too caught up in the "what ifs".

I'm so relieved to hear about this reprieve! It's crazy how close our lives are to being taken away in an instant 🤯. The fact that Donald Ray Totten was able to keep his cool despite knowing what was happening is a testament to his strength and resilience 💪. I can only imagine the emotional rollercoaster he must have been on leading up to this point.

But let's be real, 15 more years in prison? That's still an awful lot of time for someone who took a life 😔. I think it's interesting that experts are speculating about his decision-making process, but at the end of the day, we'll never know for sure what went through his mind.

As someone who believes in rehabilitation and second chances, I have to wonder if this reprieve will be enough for Totten to turn his life around 🔄. Can anyone truly change their ways after committing such a heinous crime? Only time will tell, but for now, I'm just glad that his execution has been stayed 💼.

man... this is just crazy 🤯 like what even is going on with our justice system? one minute he's scheduled to die, next he's getting a reprieve and now he gets to stay in prison for 15 more years... it's all just so messed up 😔

i'm not saying he didn't do it or anything, but clemency? really? i guess the appeals court saw something we don't. and honestly, who can blame him for wanting to live instead of dying 🤷‍♂️ but at the same time, 15 more years is still a looong time... will he ever be free? 🚔

my heart goes out to donald ray toten and his family... imagine bein on death row, knowin you're gonna die in a few hours, and then suddenly get a reprieve 🤞😔 it's like bein given a second chance at life, but still stuck in limbo. 15 more years is a long time, but at least he gets to spend more time with his loved ones... hope the clemency board makes a fair decision 🙏💕

🤔 This is so crazy! I mean, who wants to live with the weight of knowing they've killed someone, right? 🙅‍♂️ It's like, do you really want to spend the rest of your life in a cell for that? For Totten, it seems like 15 more years behind bars might be better than being strapped to a death chair 😬. I don't know if I'd ever be able to sleep at night knowing I'm responsible for someone's death... but hey, to each their own, right? 🤷‍♂️ It's good that the appeals court stepped in and gave him another chance, though! ⏰

Umm... so like, this guy Donald Ray Totten was all set to die, but then someone came and stopped it just hours before... what a relief 🙏. I mean, imagine if they hadn't, right? It's crazy how one person can literally be the difference between life and death. And I'm trying to understand why he didn't want to carry out the execution in the first place... was he thinking about his family or something? Like, did he regret what he'd done back then?

Also, 15 more years is a looong time... what are the chances of him getting paroled after that? Would he even be the same person by then? And what about all the people who were affected by his actions, do they get any closure or justice in this situation? These questions keep running through my head 🤔
