Organizers in Chicago stand in solidarity with Minnesota protesters, demand cuts to DHS budget

Hundreds of community organizers in Chicago have taken to the streets to show solidarity with protesters in Minneapolis, urging an end to federal immigration enforcement and demanding a cut to the Department of Homeland Security's budget. The gathering at Casa Michoacan came as part of a nationwide effort to stand up against the Trump administration's aggressive deportation campaign.

Organizers say that the federal government's actions have resulted in the deaths of immigrants and U.S. citizens, as well as the arrests of dozens of protesters who have been vocal about their opposition to immigration enforcement operations. The group is calling for an end to what it describes as a "hunting ground" mentality used by federal agents in Minnesota and surrounding areas.

In Minneapolis, federal agents have been conducting raids that have resulted in clashes with residents and protesters demanding they leave their neighborhoods. Similar tactics were used during Operation Midway Blitz, the administration's deportation campaign in the Chicago area.

The House passed the Homeland Security appropriations bill on Thursday, despite concerns from Democrats that it fails to curb President Trump's mass deportation efforts. However, Republicans managed to push the bill through with a narrow 220-207 vote.

Organizers are urging residents to call their elected officials to demand an end to funding for immigration enforcement. The spending bill allocates $20 million for body-worn cameras for ICE and CBP officers interacting with the public during immigration enforcement operations.

As tensions continue to rise, businesses in Minnesota have organized an economic blackout, with owners shutting down their doors on Friday in protest. Residents were urged to avoid work, school, and shopping to show opposition to the presence of immigration agents and federal enforcement operations in the state.

The group is also demanding accountability after a controversial ICE enforcement operation that resulted in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was killed by an ICE agent on January 7. The shooting death mirrored two similar incidents in the Chicago area during Operation Midway Blitz.

"We won't stand idly by as they separate families and we will exercise our rights every single day," said Veronica Castro, deputy director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. "We demand ICE out of Minnesota, ICE out of Illinois, ICE out of everywhere."

This whole thing with the immigration agents in Minneapolis is getting outta hand ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, people are literally getting killed by these guys and we're still debating whether to fund their operations? It's like, come on, what's next? Are we gonna start sending in SWAT teams to protect our homes from "hunting grounds" ? ๐Ÿ˜‚ The fact that they're trying to justify this as a "hunting ground" mentality is just ridiculous. We need to stand up for these people and demand change ๐Ÿ™Œ. And honestly, the economic blackout in Minneapolis sounds like a solid idea - let's show these agents who's boss ๐Ÿ’ช. It's time for some real accountability from our government leaders ๐Ÿ‘Š.

the federal gov is being super sketchy with its immigration policies ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿšซ i mean, who wants to live in fear of getting raided by the feds? it's not right that ppl are getting hurt or killed because of this "hunting ground" mentality. and what's up with the fact they're allocating 20 million dollars for body-worn cameras... sounds like a legit excuse to get more info on who's doing the raiding lol ๐Ÿคฃ anyway, i think it's time we stand up for our rights as citizens and demand change from our elected officials ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘Š

I'm low-key worried about these protests ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŒŽ. I mean, I get it, immigration enforcement is a huge issue and we gotta stand up for what's right, but violence isn't the answer โš ๏ธ. All this drama in Minneapolis and Chicago with arrests, shootings... it's just getting outta hand ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. What if someone gets hurt? ๐Ÿค• I'm all about standing up for our rights, but let's do it peacefully, you know? ๐Ÿ’ช We gotta make sure we're not putting anyone in harm's way ๐Ÿ™.

And can we talk about this $20 million for body-worn cameras tho ๐Ÿค‘. Like, isn't that just a band-aid solution? ๐Ÿ˜’ What are they really gonna do with all those cameras? Are they gonna start filming people when they're just minding their own biz? ๐Ÿค” That's just creepy ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ.

We need to find a way to make our voices heard without resorting to violence or chaos ๐Ÿ“ข. Let's keep it peaceful, let's keep it calm, and let's show the world we won't be silenced ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ.

๐Ÿšจ This solidarity march in Chicago is a powerful statement against the Trump administration's aggressive deportation campaign ๐Ÿคฏ. The fact that hundreds of community organizers are standing up together, demanding an end to funding for immigration enforcement, is a testament to their determination and resilience ๐Ÿ’ช. The emotional toll of ICE's actions on families and communities can't be overstated ๐Ÿ˜”, especially with Renee Nicole Good's tragic shooting death still fresh in our minds ๐Ÿ’€. It's clear that the administration's "hunting ground" mentality is having devastating consequences ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm calling on everyone to listen to these organizers and demand accountability from their elected officials ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ. We need systemic change, not just empty promises ๐Ÿ™„. The economic blackout in Minnesota is a smart move too - when we boycott businesses that support these practices, we're sending a powerful message ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Let's keep the pressure on until our voices are heard and our demands are met ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ OMG you guys, I just looked at some stats on the web and it's wild... like did you know that in 2022 alone, there were over 420,000 deportations under the Trump administration? ๐Ÿšซ That's a LOT of people. And the worst part is that 60% of those deportees were US citizens! ๐Ÿคฏ It's crazy. I also found out that the Homeland Security appropriations bill passed with just a 13-vote margin... like what even is that? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

And have you seen the numbers on ICE operations in Minnesota? Like, there were over 100 raids in 2022 and they resulted in the arrest of over 500 people! ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ฅ That's insane. I'm also seeing some charts about the economic impact of immigration enforcement... did you know that for every $1 invested in immigration enforcement, we spend like $4 on detention and deportation costs? ๐Ÿ’ธ It just doesn't add up.

I also just looked at a map of the US and it's crazy how many states are affected by ICE operations. Like, it's not just Minnesota anymore... it's all over the country. ๐ŸŒŽ I'm seeing some stats about the impact on small businesses too... did you know that 60% of immigrants own their own businesses? ๐Ÿค Losing them would be a huge blow to our economy.

I'm definitely going to call my rep tomorrow and demand change. What about you guys?

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ the whole thing is super messed up ๐Ÿคฏ, these federal agents are basically creating a climate of fear among immigrants and their families ๐ŸŒช๏ธ, and it's getting to a point where people are losing their lives ๐Ÿ’€, like that poor woman Renee who got shot by an ICE agent ๐Ÿ˜ข, what even is the point of this whole deportation campaign? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ, and now businesses in Minnesota are having an economic blackout because they're fed up ๐Ÿ“‰, it's time for some real change ๐Ÿ”„, we need to stand together with these community organizers and demand that our elected officials do something about this ๐Ÿ˜ก.

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’” this is getting crazy! they're literally shutting down whole cities because of a few people with badges... what's next? everyone just walking off the job because some agent showed up with a clipboard? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ i get it, ppl are upset but shouldn't we be working towards a solution instead of all this drama?

I was at the beach last weekend ๐Ÿ–๏ธ and saw a really cool seagull doing some crazy acrobatics in the air ๐Ÿฆ. I swear, it was like it had a tiny jetpack or something! Anyway, back to this immigration thing... I mean, can you imagine if they had that kind of security at our local beaches? Like, no one could ever get close to the water again without getting swarmed by agents in vests and sunglasses ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ. It's wild how much power a government agency can have over people's lives. And what's with all these body-worn cameras for ICE officers? Do they really need that kind of tech to keep an eye on us?

I'm so worried about what's happening with these protests ๐Ÿค•, but at the same time I'm really proud of all these community organizers coming together to stand up for their rights! They're literally fighting for human lives here ๐Ÿ’–. I mean, it's crazy that they're being called "hunting ground" mentality by the feds - like, what kind of language is that? ๐Ÿ˜ก. But you know what? I think this whole thing could be a wake-up call for people to realize that immigration isn't just a policy issue, it's a human rights issue ๐ŸŒŽ. And if they can make some real change happen here in Minneapolis and Chicago, I'm all for it! ๐Ÿ’ช The economic blackout is also super clever - who knew that a little bit of business pressure could go such a long way? ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm getting a bad vibe from this one ๐Ÿšซ... I mean, what's going on with our country right now? It's like we're living in some kinda nightmare. People dying because of immigration raids, protesters getting arrested and killed... it's just not right ๐Ÿ˜ข. And the government's response is to just give them more funding for their deportation campaign? Come on, that's not how you build trust with your citizens. I'm calling my reps every day, urging them to stop this madness ๐Ÿ’ช. We need to stand up for our rights and demand change. Can't we all just get along and find a way to make this work without having to resort to violence or intimidation? ๐Ÿค”

I'm totally with the fed's on this one ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, think about it, if they're not enforcing immigration laws, who's gonna keep people in check? It's all about national security, you know? Those community organizers are just trying to create a mess and stir up trouble for no reason. The fact that some people got arrested during the protests is just a coincidence - they were probably just asking for it. And yeah, maybe some bad apples work at ICE, but that's not the agency's fault. They're just doing their job. I don't get why everyone's so worked up about this - can't we all just get along? ๐Ÿ˜’

I'm getting so sick of this deportation drama ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, can't we just be kind to each other? It's Americans and immigrants, right? They're not mutually exclusive. I've got a cousin who's an undocumented immigrant and she's doing just fine without any issues. She even started her own business ๐Ÿค‘.

The fact that the government is putting these agents out on our streets and causing all this chaos is just ridiculous ๐Ÿ˜’. And now they're asking for more money to buy body cams? Are you kidding me? Can't we fund education and healthcare instead? The economy could use a little boost, you know?

I'm so proud of the people in Chicago and Minneapolis who are standing up against this. They're not afraid to speak out and demand change ๐Ÿ’ช. We need more people like them, you know? We can make a difference if we just stand together ๐Ÿค.

I'M SO SAD TO HEAR ABOUT ALL THE VIOLENCE IN MINNEAPOLIS ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿšจ THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO DO THEIR JOB BUT FEDERAL AGENTS ARE BEING TOO AGGRESSIVE ๐Ÿ˜ฌ AND IT'S HURTING GOOD PEOPLE LIKE RENEE NICOLE GOOD WHO WAS JUST MUMMERING AROUND WITH HER KIDS ๐Ÿ™ AND NOW HER FAMILY IS IN TROUBLE ๐Ÿ˜ฉ AND THE GOVERNMENT IS JUST PASSING BILLS WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ

OMG u guys!!! ๐Ÿคฏ I'm literally shaking right now thinking about all these ppl standin up 4 what's rightfully thier! ๐Ÿ˜ญ The gov'ts actions r beyond cruel & heartless. Those raids in Minneapolis are straight outta a horror movie ๐ŸŽƒ. Like, how many lives have to get lost before ppl take action?! ๐Ÿ’” And can we pls talk about the ICE agent who killed that 37-yr-old woman Renee? ๐Ÿ˜จ It's just not right! The fact that they're still fundin' this stuff is straight up crazyTalk ๐Ÿค‘

We need 2 make some noise & get our voices heard! ๐Ÿ’ช Calling ur reps & showin support 4 change iz key! ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ’ฌ We gotta stand together & fight 4 what's good, not just 4 ourselves but 4 our fams & communities too ๐Ÿ‘ซโค๏ธ. This is like, the most important stuff rn... let's do this! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

aww man, this is getting really scary for those people... I can imagine how terrifying it must be to live in fear of being deported or having your family torn apart just because of where you're from. it's like, what even is going on with our government? they're supposed to be protecting us, not tearing families apart ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’”

I'm also feeling so much anger and frustration towards the fact that these people are still being treated like criminals just because of their immigration status. it's not right! ๐Ÿ™„ we need to stand up for what's right and demand change. I hope more people get involved in this fight and make some noise ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ’ช

I'm also thinking about Renee Nicole Good and her family... that was such a senseless tragedy ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ˜ข. it's heartbreaking to think that an ICE agent could just shoot someone without any consequences. we need to hold our leaders accountable for their actions ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘ฎ
