Pennsylvania Awards HBO's "Task" Massive Tax Credit for Season 2 Production
The state of Pennsylvania has awarded HBO's crime drama series 'Task' a record-breaking $49.8 million tax credit for its upcoming season two, marking the largest single show tax credit ever provided by the state.
As production is set to take place entirely in Southeastern Pennsylvania, officials anticipate significant job creation and economic benefits from the show's return. Estimates suggest that over 3,700 jobs will be generated, accompanied by 25,000 hotel nights for local hospitality businesses, and an estimated $194.1 million contribution to the state's economy through direct expenditures.
The tax credit, which accounts for nearly half of the allocated funds in the state's budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, is being offered as part of the Film Production Tax Credit Program. This program offers up to 25-30% tax credits to film productions that spend at least 60% of their production budgets within Pennsylvania.
The show's creator and writer, Brad Ingelsby, expressed his gratitude for the state's support in a press release. A native of Berwyn, Chester County, Ingelsby grew up in Pennsylvania and plans to continue filming the series within the state, bringing authenticity and exposure to local businesses and artists.
Filming locations will span across multiple counties, including Aston, Delaware County, and Philadelphia, with other scenes shot at notable spots such as Wissahickon Valley Park and the Poconos. The show's production team is expected to return several cast members from the first season, including Mark Ruffalo.
The state Film Commissioner, Gino Anthony Pesi, stated that supporting productions like 'Task' has a profound impact on Pennsylvania's creative economy, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs while giving new opportunities to local businesses in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
