Philly Pops to make South Jersey debut with music from ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Encanto’

The Philadelphia Pops Orchestra is set to make its South Jersey debut on March 14 at Rowan University's Pfleeger Concert Hall with a concert program that will transport audiences to iconic cinematic worlds. The performance, titled "Blockbusters in the 'Burbs," promises an eclectic mix of film scores from Disney favorites such as "Beauty and the Beast" and Oscar-winning dramas like "Schindler's List."

The lineup also includes music from animated blockbusters "Encanto" and "The Incredibles," as well as the critically acclaimed "Catch Me if You Can." Under the direction of Music Director Christopher Dragon, the orchestra will bring these beloved scores to life in a way that is both nostalgic and thrilling.

One notable aspect of this performance is its focus on inclusivity. The concert has been designed with a sensory-friendly format, making it accessible to audience members on the autism spectrum. This thoughtful approach reflects the growing recognition of the importance of creating a more inclusive cultural landscape.

The Philadelphia Pops Orchestra itself has undergone significant changes since its reconstitution in 2023. Led by Dragon, an Australian conductor who took the reins after serving as assistant conductor with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the current lineup brings together talented musicians from a diverse musical background. The ensemble's new name is a testament to its commitment to honoring the legacy of Music Director Emeritus Peter Nero.

Tickets for "Blockbusters in the 'Burbs" are now on sale, with general admission priced at $35 and discounted tickets available for Rowan alumni, employees, seniors, Glassboro residents, military personnel, youth, and students. The performance is set to take place on March 14 at 3 p.m. at Pfleeger Concert Hall, located on the North Campus of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.

I'm really stoked about this concert series - it's a great way to bring people together who love movies and music 🎥🎵. I think it's awesome that they're making an effort to be more inclusive too, with the sensory-friendly format and all that jazz 🌈. It just shows that art can be for everyone, not just a select few.

I'm curious to see how the orchestra is going to bring these iconic scores to life - I've heard great things about Christopher Dragon's direction and I trust they'll do justice to the films. The lineup looks pretty solid too, from Disney faves to Oscar winners 🎬. I'm also loving the fact that they're supporting local students and military personnel with discounted tickets - it's those little things that really show you care 😊.

All in all, it sounds like a really fun event that's going to be a blast for anyone who loves music and movies 💥.

🎵 You can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending.
The fact that The Philadelphia Pops Orchestra is doing this concert is really cool! It's awesome that they're making an effort to include people with autism in their performance, it shows they care about everyone's experience when attending a show. 🌈

🌟 oh my gosh I'm so excited for this concert!!! 🎵 it's amazing that they're making an effort to make it sensory-friendly, it's such a big deal for people on the autism spectrum and their families. 🤗 I love that the Philadelphia Pops Orchestra is bringing together talented musicians from diverse backgrounds, it's all about representation and inclusivity 🌈💖

I'm not sure about this Blockbusters in the 'Burbs thing... 🤔 I mean, don't get me wrong, who doesn't love a good Disney soundtrack? But is it really necessary to make orchestras more inclusive by designing shows around people with autism? Like, can't they just make the concert normal and then cater to people with special needs afterwards if needed? 🎶 It feels like we're just adding another layer of "sensory-friendly" nonsense that's gonna drive up costs and make tickets even pricier. And what about people who don't have autism but still want to enjoy the music without all these extras? Can they just tune out the sensory stuff and focus on the tunes or something? 🎵

I'm really stoked about this upcoming concert from the Philadelphia Pops Orchestra 🎵! I think it's so cool that they're bringing together some epic film scores to create an immersive experience for everyone in attendance 🍿. The fact that they've got a sensory-friendly format is, like, totally awesome - inclusivity matters and we should be celebrating that 💖.

I'm also loving the mix of classic Disney jams with more dramatic Oscar winners - it's gonna be such a treat for the ears 🎶! And I'm curious to see how the orchestra is gonna bring all those iconic scores to life under the direction of Christopher Dragon 🤔. The fact that they're supporting local universities and community groups by offering discounted tickets is just, like, so generous 🙏.

What I find particularly interesting about this concert is how it reflects the ever-changing landscape of live music 🌐. With more ensembles prioritizing accessibility and diversity, we can expect some amazing performances in the future 🎉. So grab those tix for "Blockbusters in the 'Burbs" on March 14 - you won't regret it 🎭!
