Detectives Identify Suspect in Deadly NYC Uber Driver Shooting
A man has been identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting of an Uber driver who was working late on New Year's Day, marking the city's first reported homicide of 2026. Ehinel Troncoso, 24, is wanted by police for his connection to 55-year-old Issa Mbolo-Isac's death.
According to authorities, two men approached Mbolo-Isac's vehicle near Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway in Mount Hope around 7 a.m. on January 1st. When the driver tried to drive away, the men shot at his car, striking him in the head and killing him instantly. The victims' family was reportedly in shock.
Eyewitnesses describe Mbolo-Isac as a kind-hearted person who only gave of himself. Friends say he was one of the kindest people they've ever known, often going out of his way to help others. In fact, Mbolo-Isac's friend Mansour Massamba claimed that the driver never had a problem with anyone and was always willing to work late-night shifts without hesitation.
The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers has put up a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspects' arrest, which is the largest they've ever offered. Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the case.
This deadly shooting marks a disturbing trend for taxi drivers in NYC. Massamba warned that taxi drivers are often targeted by violent individuals trying to provoke them. The NYPD has urged anyone with information about Mbolo-Isac's killing to come forward.
Anyone with tips can call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit their information online.
