Portsmouth out of relegation zone after Adams goal in feisty Southampton draw

Portsmouth Ekes Out Draw at Fratton Park as Adams Secures Crucial Point

A thrilling encounter between Portsmouth and Southampton ended in a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park, handing Pompey a vital lifeline in their bid to avoid relegation. The Saints' opener through Léo Scienza's 57th-minute strike seemed to be the precursor to a long-awaited clean sheet on the road for Ralph Hasenhüttl's side, but Ebou Adams' 77th-minute equaliser snatched the three points from Southampton.

The Saints had dominated the first half, with Adam Armstrong coming closest to scoring before Nicolas Schmid made two key saves. However, Portsmouth leveled the score just 13 minutes from time, with Adams bundling in after an Adrian Segecic corner sparked wild scenes among the home faithful.

The intense atmosphere was palpable throughout the match, with both sets of players throwing their weight behind each tackle and every challenge. Temperatures flared briefly in the final 20 minutes when Flynn Downes sparked a melee with a scything tackle on Zak Swanson. Thankfully, neither side was docked points for the incidents.

The result means Portsmouth leapfrogged Blackburn into 21st place, while Southampton remain 15th after their wait for a clean sheet on the road extended to 25 league games. The Saints' manager Tonda Eckert admitted his team should have scored more and needed to deal better with the Pompey corner kick that resulted in Adams' equaliser.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth boss John Mousinho felt his side could have sealed all three points, but praised the tenacity of his players. He described the match as "an amazing occasion" and noted the high intensity of the game was reminiscent of an old-school derby. While Portsmouth's draw avoids relegation for now, they will be eager to build on this momentum when they face their next opponents.

🌟💪 I think its awesome that Pompey got a crucial point from that intense match! 1-1 draws can be super beneficial for teams trying to avoid relegation 🙏. Adams' equaliser was so cool, and I love how passionate the home fans were 🎉. For Southampton, this result might have stung, but they'll bounce back, and Tonda Eckert's feedback on dealing with corner kicks is spot on 💡. Mousinho's description of it being like an old-school derby has got me hyped for the next match too! ⚽🔥

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, can't believe how frustrating it is when a team scores a goal just 13 minutes from time and the other side still manages to get an equaliser 😩. Like, what's up with that? Portsmouth's draw was such a close call, I would've loved to see them snatch all three points 🤞. And don't even get me started on the amount of wild scenes in the stadium - 2 red cards from a single tackle? Come on! ⚽😡

I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a match where one team basically just throws their players at the other team until someone scores? I'm sure it was all just a big coincidence that Southampton's goal was scored just 13 minutes before time ran out... lol what a thrilling match 🤦‍♂️. Anyway, congrats to Portsmouth for not completely embarrassing themselves and getting an important point – can't wait to see if they can keep this momentum up (yeah right).

omg this Southampton vs Portsmouth match was insane 🤯 i mean Adams just snatched that equaliser from thin air and Pompey's fans were WILD 😂🔥 the atmosphere at Fratton Park must've been electric 💥 but seriously tho, it's a huge boost for Portsmouth to leapfrog Blackburn into 21st place and avoid relegation 🔁 they definitely deserved that crucial point after dominating the first half 🙌 what was up with Tonda Eckert though, should've scored more goals and dealt better with those Pompey corner kicks 😒

Dude what a match 😲! Pompey need that 3 points like yesterday 🔥 and Adams just came out of nowhere with that equaliser 🤯 I mean, I know Portsmouth's not the strongest team but they gave it their all and deserved that draw 💪 now let's see how they can build on this momentum 💥 and if they can take down those bigger teams in the league ⚔️

I gotta say, that Portsmouth-Southampton match had me on the edge of my seat 🏟️💥! The intensity was palpable, and I love how both teams gave it their all - every tackle, every challenge seemed to have a purpose 🔒👊. It's also worth noting that Adams' equaliser was pure chance, but you can't deny his sheer determination 💪. Pompey's win is huge for them, and now they've got a decent lifeline against relegation 🌈. Southampton, on the other hand, seem to be struggling to find consistency - 25 games without a clean sheet is just unacceptable ⏰. I'm intrigued by the dynamics between these two teams, it's clear there's more to this derby than meets the eye 🔍.

😂👀 omg what a match! i'm so confused tho why did southampton keep throwing away points like that?? they had the game in the bag and then adam's goal just snatched it from them 🤯 how do you explain those scything tackles tho? flynn downes is such a dirty player ⚽⚔️ anyway, portsmouth got the 3 points they needed so yeah i'm happy for them 😊👏

🤔 i'm not surprised pfc got that draw tho 😂 they've been playing really well in recent games and adams has been a game-changer 🎯 his goal was crucial at the end of course, but also that corner kick from segecic was super poor marking from southampton 🙅‍♂️ we all know southampton should be doing better with their squad 👀

omg u guys can imagine the energy at Fratton Park 1-1 is def a result everyone needed and i gotta give props to Adams he came from NOWHERE to equalize and get us that crucial point for Pompey 🤩🏴️‍☠️ i was on the edge of my seat when Segecic scored that corner it was like a dream come true for us fans 😍 but seriously though, 25 games without a clean sheet is crazy for Southampton they really need to sort out their defense ASAP 👀

🤯 u guys are gonna go crazy now lol portsmouth just drew against southampton and its literally the difference between them being 21st or 22nd in the league tbh i love how ebou adams got that equaliser tho he's been on fire lately 🚀 Pompey's fans must be hyped rn, they can finally breathe a sigh of relief lol Adams' header was pure magic, what a finish by him 👏 now let's see if they can carry this momentum and stay up or not 😅

I'm so worried about my little one watching that intense match last night 🤯♂️. I mean, those tackles were so physical! 😬 As a parent, it's hard not to feel anxious for the players' safety, especially with all the injuries happening in football these days 💔. On a more positive note, though, it's awesome that Portsmouth was able to get that crucial point 🏆! My kid loves watching those underdog stories come true 😊, and this one is definitely a thrilling one. Now, let's just hope they can keep the momentum going and avoid relegation 🤞...

I'm so confused... 🤯 I mean, I was really hoping Pompey would lose and take a bigger blow in the relegation fight, but at the same time, I want them to stay up because it's always exciting to watch live football 😅. And Adams' goal was just crazy - how did that even happen?! 🤔 I'm still thinking about it... Portsmouth's draw should be a wake-up call for Southampton, though - they need to do better if they wanna avoid relegation themselves ⚽️.

draws can be super frustrating but sometimes u gotta take a step back & appreciate the fact that u're still in the game! Pompey was down 1-0 but managed to claw back and snatch a point, which is basically like getting a second chance at life 🤯. It's all about how u respond to adversity & showing up with determination & heart. don't be too hard on urself if things aren't going ur way, just keep pushing forward & trust the process 💪

I mean, Southampton's season is already looking pretty grim 😩. They've been waiting for 25 games for a clean sheet away from home and still can't get it together 🤦‍♂️. I'm not sure what's going on with Ralph Hasenhüttl's tactics, but they're just not clicking right now 🔇. And Pompey finally getting that crucial point is huge for them 💪. They've been struggling this season, but Adams' goal has given them a much-needed boost of confidence 🎉. Now if only they could find consistency... ⚖️

🤔 u guys are gonna love this! so i heard that theres a secret behind portsmouths corner kick... apparently its been tweaked by mousinho and his team have been practicing it like crazy in training 💪 thats why segecic had no chance at all... meanwhile, ive heard that adam armstrong was NOT happy with some of the refereeing decisions throughout the game 🤝 sounds like there might be a bit of drama brewing between him and the linesman 👀

I gotta say, this match between Portsmouth and Southampton is like life itself - unpredictable and full of twists! You see, Pompey didn't give up even when it seemed like all hope was lost, and that's what got 'em the draw. It's like we do in our own lives, right? We face setbacks and failures, but instead of giving up, we keep pushing forward. And sometimes, that's exactly what gets us back on track.

And let's talk about these players, they're like warriors out there! They give it their all, every single minute, even when things get tough. That's the kind of attitude we need to adopt in our own lives, don't you think? We need to be willing to dig deep and keep going, even when the road ahead seems uncertain.

So yeah, this match may not have been the most dramatic one, but it was definitely a lesson in perseverance and never giving up. 👏

I gotta say, sometimes you gotta let things breathe, ya know? I mean, that draw was like a rollercoaster ride – one minute your heart is in your throat 'cause you're 1-0 down, the next it's all back on again. Life's like that too, we can't control every outcome, but what matters is how we respond to the twists and turns. Pompey could've taken the lead, then Southampton pushed hard, but Portsmouth dug deep & got their reward. It just goes to show that perseverance & grit are key 💪

OMG, what a match 🤩! I mean, I know Pompey weren't expected to win, but that Adams guy came out of nowhere and scored the equaliser just in time ⏰! The Saints were having a tough day, but they still put on an amazing performance. And can we talk about the intensity of that game? It was like they were all fighting for every ball 💪🔥! Pompey getting that crucial point is super good news for them – it's definitely given them a boost going into their next match 🎉. As for Southampton, I feel bad for Ralph Hasenhüttl and his team... 25 league games without a clean sheet? That's gotta be tough 🤕... anyway, on to the next one!

🤔 this league table is getting more & more crazy! Pompey literally dodged a bullet but still managed to get that crucial point 🙌 meanwhile Southampton are just so close to giving up all hope 😩 gotta respect Adams for scoring in stoppage time 💪 can't believe they waited 25 games without a clean sheet 🕰️ on the bright side, Mousinho's comment about it being like an old-school derby is spot on 🔥 that match had EVERYTHING! intensity, drama, wild tackles... 😆 Portsmouth fans must be riding high right now 🎉 what's next for Pompey? 🤞
