Premiere: Netflix’s New True Crime Doc Dives Into a Mother’s Mysterious Disappearance

In the haunting true crime documentary "The Carman Family Deaths" now streaming on Netflix, the disappearance of 69-year-old Linda Carman has left behind a trail of questions and a family torn apart by grief and suspicion. In September 2016, Linda's son Nathan took off in a fishing boat with her near Block Island. A few days later, a freighter spotted Nathan clinging to a life raft off the coast of Martha's Vineyard - a dramatic rescue that would change everything.

As investigators dug deeper into what happened at sea, they uncovered a web of deceit and motives that implicated not only Linda but also her family members and business associates. The investigation revealed a complex picture of greed, power struggles, and long-buried secrets, all of which pointed to the tragic events that transpired on that fateful day.

Directed by Yon Motskin, "The Carman Family Deaths" delves into the heart-wrenching story of Linda's disappearance and its far-reaching consequences. The documentary is based on a 2021 WIRED feature by Evan Lubofsky and features interviews with those closest to the family, including Nathan himself.

Nathan's defense team has long argued that his autism spectrum disorder played a significant role in his supposed fabrication of events, but as the investigation progressed, more evidence surfaced suggesting otherwise. It was eventually revealed that Nathan had been charged with murder - an alleged attempt to inherit his late grandfather's vast estate worth millions of dollars.

In 2022, just over a year after WIRED first reported on the Carman family's story, Nathan faced justice for allegedly orchestrating his mother's disappearance and death. The charges marked a devastating end to the family saga that captivated the nation.

Through exclusive interviews with key figures in the case, "The Carman Family Deaths" offers an unflinching look into the darker side of human nature - where motives can be twisted and lies can be spun to cover up deep-seated desires for power and wealth. This gripping true crime documentary will leave viewers on the edge of their seats as they unravel the tangled threads of a tragic tale that refuses to let go.

Watch "The Carman Family Deaths" on Netflix now, but proceed with caution - the truth is far more complex than what may initially meet the eye.

I just finished watching this documentary and I'm still trying to process everything 😮💔. It's crazy how a family can turn against each other like that. But at the same time, it's also really interesting to see how much of a web of deceit Nathan had spun around him 🕸️. And I feel bad for his mom Linda - she was just trying to protect her family and provide for them 💕.

I think what really gets me is how the investigation went on for so long and all these people were suspected and cleared in different stages 🕰️. It's a reminder that nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and sometimes the truth can be really complicated 🔮.

But I guess that's what makes true crime documentaries so captivating - they're like puzzles to solve 💡. And this one definitely delivers on that front 🎥. So yeah, watch it but go in with a critical eye 👀.

this docu is super unsettling i mean its based on real events and you can feel the grief and desperation from linda's family its like theyre still reeling from whats happened her son nathan is in big trouble but u cant help but wonder if he was really capable of something so sinister all these years later i hope justice has been served for lindas memory

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one 🤯. I mean, can you believe the guy was charged with murder? It's like something out of a thriller novel. And the autism spectrum disorder thing just raises more questions - did he really fabricate those events or was it all part of some twisted game? The family dynamics are wild too, like they were playing this massive game of cat and mouse. It's not surprising that the truth is complex and hard to swallow - human nature can be pretty messed up 😳. But at the same time, I feel bad for Linda's kids, having to deal with all this trauma and suspicion. It's a wild ride, but also super disturbing 💔.

🚨 this documentary is super messed up 🤯 69yo woman just disappears and her son is accused of murder? that's crazy 😱 no wonder he has autism, all those people are hiding something 🙅‍♂️ i mean, who tries to fake a life raft rescue for millions of dollars? 🤑 this whole thing reeks of manipulation 💔 and the fact that it took 5 years for him to get charged is wild ⏰ btw, i'm not saying he's innocent but come on, some ppl need to take responsibility for their actions 😳

omg i just watched this docu and it's wild!!! i feel so bad for linda's fam esp nathan tho like he was already struggling w/ autism & all these other stuff was thrown at him... i dont know if im buying into his defense team saying autism played a big role or if its just an excuse, idk. anyway the docu is so detailed & u can tell they really dug deep into the case... it's like, who was behind linda's disappearance & death? & why did nathan do it? so many questions, so little answers lol...

🤯 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing... Like, what's even more shocking is that Nathan's defense team was actually pushing the autism thing as a reason for his supposed fabrication? 🙄 Meanwhile, we're over here like "wait, didn't they just get done with trial and verdict in 2022?" 🤯 It's crazy how quickly these things escalate. And can we talk about how messed up it is that this whole thing went down for the sake of inheritance? 💸 I'm not buying that Nathan would go through all that drama just to get his hands on some cash... There's gotta be more to it than that.

OMG, you know I just watched that weird movie where they use avocado toast as a plot device 🤣. Anyway, back to this true crime docu... I mean, have you guys ever noticed how some people's facial expressions can totally give away their emotions? Like, Nathan in the documentary, his guilt face was giving me LIFE 😂. But seriously though, what's up with all these rich ppl and their family dramas? It's like, they got so caught up in their own problems, they forgot to be decent human beings 🤷‍♀️. And can we talk about how complex the law is? Like, Nathan was charged with murder, but he had autism, so was that just a convenient excuse? 🤔

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing 🤯... I mean, 69 years old and just gone, leaving her family to pick up the pieces? It's like, what even happened out there on that boat? 🛥️ The investigation was so twisted, it made me wonder if they'd ever find any real answers. And Nathan, his autism or not, he seemed pretty level-headed for someone who'd allegedly orchestrated his mom's disappearance... I don't know, man, it just feels like a lot of people were hiding something 🤐

🤔 I mean, have you seen this docu? It's wild... Linda's disappearance and murder are super tragic, but it's also like, what was her son Nathan even thinking?! 🙈 Autistic or not, fabricating a story like that is some next level stuff. And the motive for murder... millions of dollars?! That's just crazy talk 🤑. But at the same time, I feel bad for Linda and Nathan's family - they've been through so much trauma 💔. The docu does make you question everything and how easily people can deceive each other 😱. So yeah, watch it but don't get too caught up in the drama... trust me 🎬

🤯 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... The whole thing sounds super suspicious from the start! Nathan's story doesn't add up and it's crazy how much money was involved in all of this 🤑. And then finding out he was charged with murder? Mind blown 😲. It's like, what even is going on here? Did his autism really make him fabricate everything or was there more to it? I need some more info before I can fully grasp the whole situation 😅. Has anyone else seen this docu and have any thoughts? 🤔

omg u guys I am FREAKING OUT over this docu!!!! I mean i knew it was gonna be juicy but wow like the carman family deaths is EVERYTHING 🤯 Nathan's defense team said he had autism and that's why he fabricated events but now we know there's more to it 🤔 and can u even imagine how many twists and turns in this story there are 🔄 I mean i'm already watching it on netflix rn and i'm hooked 😂 what did u guys think of the trailer?? 😲

I'm low-key fascinated by this whole thing... I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a true crime doc that's like a Real Housewives meets Ocean's Eleven? The thought of all these intricate lies and power struggles in one family is just wild 🤯 And can we talk about Nathan's autism for a sec? Is it really possible that his diagnosis was downplayed by the prosecution, or was he just using it as a smokescreen? 🤔 Either way, I'm hooked. I need more 💁‍♀️

I've been thinking about this docu all day, like, what's really going on here? I mean, Nathan's autism thing was always a bit of a red flag, but now it sounds like there's so much more to it... 🤔 I'm watching it with my friends and we're all just like, "who can we trust?" And the family dynamics are wild, like, they were all so invested in getting that inheritance 💸. I don't know what's more disturbing, the fact that someone would do this or how messed up the whole investigation was... 🙅‍♂️ Anyway, gotta finish watching it now, but I'm low-key scared for Nathan 😬.

I'm shocked by how messed up this family's dynamics were 😱. I mean, who tries to kill their own mom over inheritance? The way Nathan was portrayed in the documentary, it's clear he wasn't playing with a full deck 🤯. But what really gets me is how some people would try to spin lies and manipulate others to cover up their own selfish motives. It's like, you can't just erase someone's death and expect everyone to buy into your fake story 🚫. And the fact that Nathan had to live with this guilt and paranoia for years... it's heartbreaking 🤕.

I'm telling you, this whole thing reeks of overhyped sensationalism 🤣. People are eating up this drama like it's real-life soap opera and I'm just not buying it 😒. Nathan's autism spectrum disorder? Yeah, sure, maybe he had some cognitive struggles but that doesn't mean he was capable of orchestrating his mom's disappearance and death 💁‍♀️. And let's be real, the motive is just too convenient - inheritance from a vast estate worth millions? Please, it sounds like a Hollywood script 🎬. The documentary's just using the tragic events to spin some twisted narrative about human nature being "dark" and all that jazz 🤷‍♂️. Give me a break 😴

I'm watching this doc and it's giving me the chills 🤯 I mean, can you believe how twisted things got? Nathan's autism is definitely not to blame in my opinion...it's like he was pushed into that life raft and they just used his condition as an excuse for the whole thing. And those family members, they're all so shady 🤑 It's crazy how greed and power struggles can corrupt people like that.

This docu series is wild 🤯 69 y/o grandma gets "kidnapped" and her son's involved in it? Sounds like a bad soap opera to me 📺. And what's with the drama about Nathan's autism spectrum disorder? Maybe he wasn't faking anything, maybe he was just trying to get some help for his mom 💔. The whole thing is just too suspicious, you know when they say "the truth is out there" and this docu series is like "yeah, it's right here in front of us"... but we still gotta dig deep 👀

OMG 🤯 like I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing... Nathan's story is just so messed up 🙅‍♂️ and it's crazy how his autism was used as a defense mechanism but really it sounds like he was playing it smart by hiding his true intentions 🤑. I mean, who tries to fake a life raft rescue? 😂 and the fact that his family members were involved too... it's like they all had a role in this dark game of cat and mouse 💀. Anyway, watching this doc is def on my watchlist 🔍

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing 🤯. I mean, who makes a life-or-death decision like that over inheritance? And then you got Nathan's autism being brushed aside as just an excuse for his supposed "fabrication" of events... it's all so messed up 😕. The family dynamics were already pretty toxic, but the investigation revealed some seriously dark stuff about everyone involved 🚨. It's crazy how quickly power and greed can consume people... and how devastating the consequences can be for innocent parties 🙏.
