Putin “shouldn’t be rewarded” in Ukraine peace plan

Ukraine's leaders are making it clear that Russia's involvement in the ongoing conflict must be held to account.

According to Theresa Fallon, director at the Centre for Russia, Europe, Asia Studies, there is a palpable sense of exhaustion with the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people want a dignified end to the fighting, and any peace plan put forward by international mediators must not reward President Vladimir Putin for starting it.

This sentiment was reinforced during negotiations over a potential peace agreement. Fallon stated that Ukrainians would accept nothing less than accountability from Russia for its actions. This stance reflects a broader shift in attitudes towards the conflict, as many now see the war as unsustainable and recognize the need for a negotiated resolution.

The push for accountability also highlights concerns about the legitimacy of any post-war settlement if it fails to acknowledge Russia's role in the conflict. The international community is now under pressure to ensure that any peace deal does not legitimize Putin's actions or enable Russia to avoid taking responsibility for its involvement.

It remains to be seen whether the Ukrainian government and international negotiators can reach a mutually acceptable agreement that meets the needs of all parties involved, particularly when it comes to holding Russia accountable.

The whole situation is so messed up 🤯. I mean, Ukraine's been in this war for ages now, and you'd think that by now everyone would be ready to call out Putin for what he did. But nope, there's still all this back-and-forth about whether or not Russia should take responsibility for the conflict. It's like, come on guys, get real 🙄. The Ukrainian people deserve better than some watered-down peace deal that lets Putin off the hook.

And it's not just about accountability, it's about setting a precedent too. If you let Putin get away with this stuff, what's to stop other countries from doing the same thing? It's like, we need some real leadership here, someone who's gonna stand up and say "enough is enough" 💪.

I mean, I'm all for finding a peaceful solution, but it needs to be on Russia's terms. If they're not willing to take responsibility for their actions, then maybe peace isn't even possible 🤔. The international community needs to step in here and make some tough decisions. It's time for some real change 🔄.

I'm worried about the timeline for this peace deal 🕰️. The war has been going on for years now and it's taking a huge toll on both Ukraine and Russia. Have we learned nothing from past conflicts like Afghanistan? Accountability is key but it's also important to consider what a negotiated settlement would look like in practice. Would it just be a slap on the wrist for Putin or would there be real consequences? 🤔

I just can't help but feel that we're at a point where everyone's ready for this war in Ukraine to end, but no one knows how to make it happen without Russia taking some blame 🤕. I mean, Putin's been all over the place with his actions, and now it seems like the whole world is saying he needs to own up to it. Problem is, we don't want to be seen as rewarding him for starting this mess in the first place...it just doesn't feel right 😔.

I think it's a tricky situation because if Russia isn't held accountable, it could set a bad precedent for how international conflicts are handled in the future. And if they do hold Putin accountable, will that even lead to a peaceful resolution? It feels like we're stuck between a rock and a hard place 🤯.

What I'd love to see is some real negotiations between Ukraine and Russia where both sides can actually talk about what's going on and work towards a solution that works for everyone. Until then, it just feels like we're kicking the can down the road...and that's not exactly reassuring 😐

I think this whole thing is getting old 🤯. I mean, people have been fighting for like 3 years now, and everyone's just so over it 😴. The Ukrainians are right to want some sort of accountability from Russia, you know? Like, if you start a war, you gotta own up to it 💪. But at the same time, can we please just get on with the peace talks already 🤞? This back-and-forth between Ukraine and Russia is getting old news ⚠️. And what's with all the pressure from the international community to make sure Putin doesn't get off scot-free? I mean, we get it, he's bad news 😒... but can't they just find a way to end this without making him look like the hero 🙅‍♂️? It's just so frustrating watching this all play out 👀.

I think it's time to rethink this whole "accountability" thing. We've been beating Russia over the drum for years, what's next? A war crime trial on the Kremlin steps? 🤔 I mean, come on, if we want peace, shouldn't we just, like, let bygones be bygones? Holding Putin accountable sounds like a power grab to me. What about Ukraine's own role in all this? We're talking about a country with some pretty sketchy past, you know? Let's not forget that. 🤷‍♂️

I mean come on, if you ask me, Russia's been getting off scot-free for too long 🤦‍♂️. I'm not saying Putin's entirely at fault, but he did start this war and now everyone wants him to take the fall 💪. It's about time someone held him accountable, especially when it comes to his regime's human rights record 🚫. And let's be real, if any peace plan is gonna fly, Russia needs to accept some blame for their part in it, you feel me? 🤔

I'm just worried about how this accountability thing is gonna play out. Like, what's the definition of 'accountability' here? Is it just some token gesture or are we talking real consequences for Russia? I mean, if Putin's all-powerful and can just do whatever he wants, how much punishment can we really expect him to take? And what about the cost of the war - is that gonna be factored into any potential settlement? It feels like a lot of hot air to me. We need concrete action, not just words. 🤔

I feel like we're stuck in a real-life "Armageddon" scenario 🌪️. The exhaustion with this war is palpable, but what's concerning is that some people still think Putin can just waltz out of this unscathed. Like, no way! Accountability for Russia's actions is non-negotiable, IMO 💁‍♀️. If the international community doesn't hold them responsible, it'll be a total cop-out. We need to see some serious consequences for their actions, you know? It's time for the West to step up and show Putin that we won't tolerate this kind of behavior 😒. Fingers crossed that Ukraine's leaders can get a fair deal out of these negotiations 🤞.

I'm thinking that's a total no-go if they wanna make this whole conflict work... Like, if we're talking peace, accountability is key 🤝. Can't just let Putin off scot-free after starting this mess. It's not about being mean or harsh, it's about making sure the Ukrainian people get justice for what's happened to them 💔. We gotta make sure any peace deal has Russia owning up to its actions and taking responsibility. Anything less is gonna be super sketchy 🤥

I don’t usually comment but... I think this whole accountability thing is kinda fair 🤔. Like, if Russia was really behind this mess, they should own up to it. It's not like Ukraine just decided to start a war out of nowhere 💁‍♀️. The international community needs to be on Russia's case about this because if they get away with it, what's next? They'll just keep pushing people around and getting away with it 🚫.

I mean, I know some people say Putin is a brilliant leader and all that 💡, but come on... how can you justify starting a war that's been going on for years? It's not like Ukraine was asking for it 😒. The Ukrainian people just want to be able to live their lives in peace without Russia's drama 🌎.

Anyway, I don't wanna sound too harsh or anything 🤷‍♂️, but accountability is kinda important right now 💪. Let's hope the Ukrainians and international negotiators can get a deal that actually holds Russia responsible for its actions 🤞.

I feel so bad for the Ukrainian people 🤕... they've been through so much already. I think we're getting close to realizing that this war is not just about Ukraine and Russia, but also about us, as a global community. We need to make sure that Russia takes responsibility for its actions, or it's going to be hard for any peace agreement to stick 🤝.

I remember when my friends' cousin went back to Ukraine after the war started... he was so traumatized by what he saw and experienced. It made me realize how real the human cost of this conflict is 💔. I hope that we can find a solution that doesn't just push everything under the rug, but really holds those in power accountable.

I'm also worried about what might happen if we don't get it right... what if Russia is able to spin its involvement as some kind of victimhood story? 🤦‍♂️ We need to make sure that our definition of accountability is clear and strong, so we're not enabling anyone to avoid taking responsibility for their actions.

I'm so over these negotiations 🤯💔. It's like, come on guys, you're still debating about who's at fault for this whole mess? Can't we just focus on getting out of here with minimal losses and no one looks like a complete idiot? I mean, Ukraine wants accountability from Russia, but what does that even look like in practice? A bunch of empty promises or actual consequences for Putin's actions? It's all so frustrating 🙄👀.

I feel so bad for the ppl in Ukraine 🤕 they've been thru so much already & now they just wanna know if russia's gonna take responsibility 4 what they did 🤔 i mean, it makes sense that they don't wanna reward Putin 4 starting this mess. my friends at school are really passionate about politics & we've been discussin a lot about how the world should handle conflicts like this. some ppl say we should just let countries figure things out on their own but others think the international community needs to step in & make sure everyone plays by the rules 🤝

I'm so worried about the people of Ukraine right now 🤕... they've been through so much pain and suffering for way too long. It's like, their lives have been turned upside down, you know? They just want to live in peace and be safe again, but it feels like that's such a distant dream sometimes 💔. And the thought of not holding Russia accountable for what they've done is just, I don't even know how to feel about it... it's like, justice isn't really serving them here 🤷‍♀️. The international community needs to come together and make sure that everyone's voice is heard, especially the Ukrainian people's 💪. It's time for Russia to take responsibility for their actions and work towards a resolution that actually helps these people 🕊️.

I feel like we're running out of options here 🤔. The war in Ukraine has been going on for ages, and people are getting tired of it 😓. Everyone's saying hold Russia accountable for what they've done – it's about time, right? 🙅‍♂️ But the thing is, Putin doesn't seem like he's willing to back down. It's all a bit frustrating, isn't it? 💔 And what's with all these peace plans that don't really add up? It feels like we're just going through the motions at this point 🕰️. Can't we just get a clear answer on what Russia is and isn't willing to do? 😒

I'm low-key worried about this whole situation 🤔. The fact that Ukraine's leaders are pushing for accountability from Russia is a major step forward, but we gotta keep in mind that Putin's got a lot invested in the status quo 💸. I mean, even if they do reach a peace agreement, it'll be tough to get Russia on board if they're not willing to admit fault 🤷‍♂️. We need to make sure any deal includes solid provisions for Ukraine's sovereignty and security, or else it might just be a temporary reprieve 😬. The international community needs to stay vigilant and make sure Putin doesn't get off scot-free 💯. Fingers crossed they can find a solution that works for everyone 🤞

I feel like we're still in a pretty mess here 🤔. I mean, Russia's been doing some bad stuff in Ukraine, and now they want to just waltz back in without taking any responsibility for it? That's not gonna fly with the Ukrainians, right? They're exhausted from all this fighting, and they deserve a dignified end to it 💔. It's like, if we're gonna make peace, we need to make sure Russia is held accountable for what they've done. Otherwise, it feels like they're just getting off scot-free 🙅‍♂️. I hope the international community can put some pressure on them to do the right thing 👊.

🤔 I'm actually kinda surprised by how much pressure Ukraine's leaders are putting on Russia to take responsibility for their actions in this conflict 🔄 It feels like they're setting a pretty high bar, but honestly, who wouldn't want accountability for starting a war? 😬 Like, isn't that part of being held accountable? 💯 I think it's good that the international community is stepping in to help facilitate a mutually acceptable agreement, but let's be real, this is gonna be a tough one 🤯 There are so many different opinions and perspectives on how to handle the situation... it's like trying to get everyone to agree on what color the sky should be 😂

I'm so worried about Ukraine 🤕... like, I know we've got our own school exams coming up soon and I need to focus on my revision notes, but this conflict is getting really serious. It's not just the Ukrainians who are suffering - think of all the innocent civilians caught in the middle of it.

I don't blame Russia for wanting to be part of the international dialogue, but President Putin needs to take responsibility for his actions, you know? Accountability matters 💼... my school has this thing where we're held accountable for our grades at the end of the year, and it's a big deal. If Russia doesn't show that they're willing to hold themselves accountable, then how can anyone trust them to make good decisions in the future?

I hope the international community can find a way to reach a mutually acceptable agreement 🤞... my friends are always saying how we need to work together as a global community, and this is exactly what it means.
