R&B Xmas Ball review – Toni Braxton melts hearts and Boyz II Men blow minds on trip back to the 90s

A night out at the R&B Xmas Ball was exactly what the artists had in store for the crowd - a trip back to the 90s, where classic R&B ruled supreme. As Dru Hill, Joe, Toni Braxton and Boyz II Men took the stage, it was clear that this Christmas concert wasn't about reinventing old songs or showcasing new Christmas classics, but rather about reviving the essence of 90s R&B.

The evening kicked off with Dru Hill delivering their signature smooth sound in matching outfits, accompanied by vintage music videos from their heyday. Meanwhile, Joe's solo set provided a gentle warm-up for Braxton's performance, which was expertly woven together to pay tribute to her own heritage and resilience as an artist.

A particularly memorable moment came when Burna Boy's 'Last Last' transitioned into Toni Braxton's timeless hit 'He Wasn't Man Enough', cleverly tying in the two through a nod to her Nigerian roots. But it was only after nine songs that Braxton opened up about her personal struggles with lupus, and shared an emotional performance of 'Breathe Again' while standing alone under a spotlight. The moment catapulted into the powerful anthem 'Long As I Live', where Braxton truly captured the hearts of the audience.

The evening was equally thrilling for Boyz II Men, who arrived in dazzling white outfits to open with Motownphilly and then treated the crowd to hits like Water Runs Dry and On Bended Knee. Their harmonies were nothing short of awe-inspiring - completely polished but also effortlessly responsive to their live band.

One of the standout moments was when Shawn Stockman paid a beautiful tribute by performing an instrumental on his purple guitar during their rendition of Prince's 'Purple Rain'. It demonstrated how deeply these artists draw from the music that inspired them, and it added to the evening's sense of reverence for 90s R&B pioneers.

The performance did stumble at times, with some technical issues and a somewhat rough production quality. However, despite these minor drawbacks, the end result was nothing short of magical. As the night drew to a close, with sets like Silent Night and Let It Snow providing welcome respite from the nostalgia-fueled festivities, it felt more like an intimate tribute act than anything else - an evening where both artists and audience were united in their celebration of R&B's golden age.

🎶 I'm so here for this throwback concert 🙌! The 90s R&B vibes were real, and the performers totally slayed it 🔥. Toni Braxton's emotional performance about her struggles with lupus was genuinely heart-wrenching ❤️, but also super empowering. It's awesome that she used her platform to raise awareness for the condition. I'm loving how they wove in different genres like Burna Boy's 'Last Last' - it was a cool nod to African roots 🌟. The harmonies from Boyz II Men were pure magic ✨, and Shawn Stockman's tribute to Prince was such a beautiful gesture ❤️. Some minor technical issues aside, the whole thing felt super intimate and special 💕.

I'm still reeling from that epic Christmas concert 🎄🔥. The way those legendary artists came together to revive the essence of 90s R&B was truly special. I loved how they didn't just stick to the classics, but also shared their personal stories and struggles - like Toni Braxton's emotional performance about her lupus battle 💖. And can we talk about Shawn Stockman's tribute to Prince? 🎸🔥 it gave me chills! The production quality could've been smoother, but honestly, it was all worth it for the music and the vibes 👏. It felt like a warm hug from the past, reminding us of why R&B is so special in the first place ❤️.

omg what can u say about this Christmas concert tho? 🤩 i mean its literally a blast from the past but still super magical. Toni Braxton giving that emotional performance of 'Breathe Again' still got me teary-eyed 💔 and Shawn Stockman's instrumental during 'Purple Rain' was sooo cool 🎸 i think what made it special was how the artists were all about paying tribute to their roots & each other, not just performing old hits. burna boy's transition into Toni Braxton's song tho? genius! 👏 did u feel like it was more of an intimate vibe or a full-on party? 🎉

man i think its amazing how these artistz are revivin the classic vibe of 90s R&B 💥😎 they totally got it right, takin us back to that sound we loved but still makin it fresh for our generation 🎉 anyway thats what i was sayin 😊

omg i was SO here for this 90s R&B revival 🎶🕺! Toni Braxton slayed her set, especially that emotional performance of 'Breathe Again' standing alone under the spotlight gave me ALL the feels 💖. And Shawn Stockman's tribute to Prince was pure magic 🎸💫... a little technical issues aside, it felt like we were all transported back to the 90s R&B heyday - I swear I was singing along to every song! 😂🎵

🤔 I'm not sure about this "magical" night out at the R&B Christmas Ball... sounds like a whole lot of nostalgia to me 🎄. Don't get me wrong, it's cool that they're paying tribute to 90s R&B, but is it really necessary to rely on classic hits and production quality? I mean, I've seen some concerts in my time where the tech was way more polished than this one 📺. And what about original Christmas classics? Were those completely left out of the setlist? Also, I'm intrigued by Burna Boy's involvement... how did he get involved with Toni Braxton's performance? Can someone provide some sources on that? 💡

man I was totally vibin' to that 90s R&B xmas ball 🎄😍 Dru Hill, Joe, Toni Braxton and Boyz II Men killin it on stage 💃🏽! burna boy's feature with toni braxton though? genius 🔥 that nod to her nigerian roots added such a special touch to the performance. and let's be real, toni's emotional take on 'breathe again' gave me CHILLS 😭 shawn stockman's tribute to prince during their rendition of purple rain tho? pure magic ✨ didn't notice any major technical issues or production hiccups, just a few minor bumps along the way 🤗 overall though, it felt like an intimate celebration of 90s R&B's golden age, and I'm here for it 💖

man this rnb xmas ball was EVERYTHING 🔥🎄 i loved how they didn't try to modernize the classics, just went straight into 90s vibe mode it was like stepping back in time 🕰️ Toni Braxton's performance was really emotional tho, sharing her struggles with lupus on stage took a lot of courage 💖 and Shawn Stockman's tribute to prince was so beautiful 🎸 the harmonies from Boyz II Men were insane!!! 😍 even though there were some technical issues it didn't ruin the magic of the night ✨

I'm still thinking about that night out at the R&B Xmas Ball 🎄😍... like what really got to me was when Toni Braxton shared her emotional performance of 'Breathe Again' while standing alone under a spotlight 💔. It was so powerful and raw, you could feel her vulnerability radiating through every note. And then she transitionsed seamlessly into 'Long As I Live', it was like the whole place just got chills 😆. But what really stood out to me was how Shawn Stockman's instrumental tribute to Prince's 'Purple Rain' added this extra layer of depth to the performance 🎸. It felt like these artists were paying homage not just to their own music, but to the people who paved the way for them.

omg what a night 🤩 that 90s r&b concert was! i mean, can u imagine getting to see dru hill, joe, toni braxton, boyz II men all on one stage? it was like stepping back into the past but with these incredible talented artists bringing new energy to their classic hits 💃🏽🕺. and burna boy's unexpected cameo was pure genius 🔥 especially when he linked up with toni braxton for a sick cover of 'last last' & 'breath again'. anyway, i do wish they'd ironed out some of the production issues 🎧 but overall it felt like an intimate tribute to 90s r&b - can't wait to see what these legends come up with next! 💖

I'm not convinced this 90s R&B revival is more than just a novelty thing 🤔. I mean don't get me wrong, it was cool to see some old school classics like Motownphilly and He Wasn't Man Enough make an appearance, but is that really what the crowd was there for? It felt like they were just phoning it in to tap into nostalgia rather than creating something new. And yeah, I loved the emotional moment when Toni Braxton sang Breathe Again, but was it necessary to bring up her personal struggles on stage? 🤷‍♀️

I'm loving how this Christmas concert brought back those nostalgic vibes! The way they wove together classic hits with personal stories made it super emotional 🎄❤️. I think what really stole the show was Braxton's vulnerability, sharing her struggles with lupus on stage - it added a whole new layer of depth to her performance 💔. And can we talk about Shawn Stockman's instrumental tribute to Prince? 😍 That purple guitar is iconic! The only thing that kept me from giving it 10/10 was the production quality, but overall, it was an unforgettable night 🎶👏

I'm kinda loving this 90s R&B revival vibe 🎉 but at the same time, I'm totally overhyped about how nostalgic it all felt? Like, is that really a good thing or are we just stuck in a time warp 🕰️? And can't they do better than some rough production quality? 💔 But on the other hand, that Shawn Stockman instrumental was so beautiful and heartfelt... I mean, who doesn't love a good 'Purple Rain' cover? 🎸

this christmas concert was so sick!! 🤩 I'm low-key disappointed that they didn't play more of shawn stockman's solo stuff, but the instrumental during purple rain was everything 😍 I feel like these artists are really doing justice to the 90s r&b scene and paying tribute to their idols in a beautiful way 💖 it's crazy how braxton was so open about her lupus struggles on stage, that was such a powerful moment 🌟 but yeah, some technical issues did pop up - still, overall it was an amazing night and i'm so grateful we got to experience this throwback vibes 🎉

omg i loved this concert so much!!! 🤩 the way they paid tribute to 90s R&B was so on point, especially braxton's emotional performance about her lupus struggles, it really added a layer of depth to the whole event 🌟. and can we talk about boyz ii men's harmonies? wow! 😍 i'm just so grateful for artists who still honor their roots like that. but at the same time, i think there's room for some innovation and experimentation in live performances too... maybe a little less nostalgia next year? 😉

omg, I'm so glad they did a 90s R&B themed Christmas concert ! 🎄🎵 the artists totally killed it, especially Toni Braxton, her emotional performance with lupus was so inspiring 💕 and Burna Boy's transition into 'He Wasn't Man Enough' was pure magic 🔥 Shawn Stockman's instrumental on Purple Rain was so beautiful too ❤️ I was a bit worried about some of the technical issues but overall it was still an amazing night out! I loved how they paid tribute to all these classic R&B artists and it felt like we were all there with them celebrating their golden age 🙌

🎶 this concert was so nostalgic, it felt like stepping into a time capsule. I loved how they tied together different artists and songs to create this epic 90s R&B vibe 🕺 Toni Braxton's emotional performance during her personal struggle was really touching ❤️. And that tribute to Prince by Shawn Stockman? 😍 the harmonies from Boyz II Men were insane 🔥 some minor technical issues, but it didn't detract from the magic of the night ✨
