Read the Report on Alex Pretti’s Killing — and the Bizarre Q&A CBP Gave Congress First

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency has been ordered to provide a report on the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident who was killed in a confrontation with CBP agents last weekend. However, instead of producing a comprehensive report as mandated by Congress, CBP sent a self-answered questionnaire that revealed more questions than answers.

The agency's response to the inquiry has been met with frustration and outrage from lawmakers, who are calling for greater transparency and accountability within CBP. The incident has also sparked concerns about the use of force by federal law enforcement agencies and the need for greater oversight and regulation.

According to the report, Pretti was killed after a confrontation with two female civilians who were ordered to move out of the roadway. One of the women ran to Pretti for help, leading CBP officers to push her away and deploy oleoresin capsicum spray on both Pretti and the woman. The situation escalated, resulting in the shooting of Pretti by Border Patrol agents.

CBP's response to the incident has been criticized for its lack of transparency and detail. The agency's self-answered questionnaire reveals that it is unable or unwilling to provide clear answers to key questions about the events leading up to Pretti's death. For example, CBP refused to answer whether its agents were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.

The incident has also raised concerns about the use of force by federal law enforcement agencies and the need for greater oversight and regulation. Lawmakers have called for increased transparency and accountability within CBP, as well as greater support for those affected by the agency's actions.

In a statement to The Intercept, a spokesperson for CBP said that death-in-custody notices reflect standard lawful procedure and provide an initial outline of events without conveying any definitive conclusion or investigative findings. However, critics argue that this response is insufficient and fails to address the many questions surrounding Pretti's death.

As the investigation into Pretti's killing continues, lawmakers are expected to push for greater transparency and accountability within CBP. The incident has highlighted the need for greater oversight and regulation of federal law enforcement agencies, particularly in terms of their use of force and treatment of civilians.

In related news, Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., and Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., have introduced legislation to limit the use of force by Department of Homeland Security agents and require DHS to track use of force and provide a notice within 24 hours if a DHS agent kills or hospitalizes a person.

😒 come on cbp u cant just slap together a halfarsed questionnaire and expect everyone 2 b fine w/ it 🤯 the fact that they refused 2 answer if their agents had body cams on at the time of the shooting is straight up suspicious 🕵️‍♀️ lawmakers r right 2 be calling out this lack of transparency & accountability 👮‍♂️ it's not like its too much 2 ask for some basic details about what went down 💁‍♀️ and btw, why can't cbp just give a real report w/ actual facts instead of trying 2 cover their tracks 🚫

🤔 this is so messed up! i mean, how can they just send a questionnaire that's like, super vague and not provide any real answers? it's like they're trying to cover their tracks or something 🚫. and what's with the lack of transparency about body cameras?! isn't that like, basic law enforcement protocol or something? 💡.

and then there are these lawmakers who are just trying to do their job and get some answers, but CBP is just not having it. it's like they're more worried about saving face than actually being accountable for what happened to Alex Pretti 🤷‍♂️. i mean, can you blame the public for being frustrated and outraged? this whole thing feels super fishy to me 🐟.

anyway, on a related note, have you guys seen that movie "The Accountant" with Ben Affleck? it's all about these vigilantes who try to take down corrupt corporations and government agencies. i feel like Alex Pretti's family might be looking for some kind of justice or revenge 💔. fingers crossed that the investigation turns up some real answers soon 🤞.

The CBP's response to this incident is a real head-scratcher 🤔... I mean, who expects them to just give answers like that? It seems like they're more worried about not looking bad than actually being transparent. And what's with the lack of body camera footage? That's like leaving out the most important piece of evidence. It's like they want people to believe that this whole thing was some kind of tragic accident, but I'm just not buying it. This all feels really fishy... and I don't think we're seeing the full story yet 😕

[Image of a person wearing a police uniform with a red "X" marked through it 🚫]

[ GIF of a cop chasing someone and tripping over their own feet 😂]

CBP's response is like asking if you're still breathing after being shot 💀👮‍♂️

I think it's unfair to bash CBP for not answering all the questions right off the bat 🤔. I mean, can we blame 'em for trying to be transparent and provide some info without gettin' into all the juicy deets that might compromise their investigation? They're tryin' to cover their bases here 💼. And let's be real, Rep. Ramirez and Rep. Magaziner are just tryin' to stir up drama and push their own agendas 🤑. It's like they're forgettin' that sometimes you gotta let the facts speak for themselves instead of jumpin' to conclusions 👀.

The way CBP is handling this situation 🤦‍♂️ is super shady. They're basically stonewalling Congress and refusing to give out clear answers about what really went down. It's like they're trying to sweep this under the rug. And can we talk about how messed up it is that two women were pushed away for trying to help Alex Pretti? 🙄 The fact that CBP won't answer whether their agents were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting is just ridiculous. It's like they're hiding something. This incident highlights the need for real reform and more accountability within federal law enforcement agencies. We deserve better than this kind of secrecy and lack of transparency 💁‍♀️

Man, this whole thing is just so messed up 🤯... I mean, a dude gets killed in a confrontation with CBP agents and what do we get? A bunch of questions unanswered 💔. It's like they're more concerned with covering their own backs than actually telling the truth. And now lawmakers are pushing for greater oversight and regulation, which is about time 🕰️... but it's all just a reminder that our government can be pretty opaque sometimes. Can't we just have some transparency and accountability for once? 😩

I gotta say 🤔, this CBP thing is gettin crazy! They can't even provide a straight answer about what went down with Alex Pretti's death... what's good with that?! It's like they're tryin to sweep it under the rug 😒. Lawmakers are all over 'em, callin out their lack of transparency and accountability. I don't blame 'em, either 🤷‍♂️. We need more oversight and regulation on these federal law enforcement agencies, or else innocent people like Alex might end up gettin shot just 'cause they were in the wrong place at the wrong time 💀.

And now Reps Ramirez and Magaziner are introducein legislation to limit the use of force by DHS agents? That's a step in the right direction 🕊️. We need more voices speakin out against this kind of police brutality and demandin justice for victims like Alex.

But what really gets me is that The Intercept is askin us to support their journalism... yeah, sure, I got love for that too 💸. They're doin the real reporting on these authoritarian governments and oligarchs around the world, exposin the truth when nobody else will. Keep it up, guys 👍!

🤔 I think it's super concerning that CBP sent a self-answered questionnaire instead of a real report 📝. Like, what's the point of having Congress ask for answers if the agency just gonna give vague responses? 😒 It feels like they're hiding something or not wanna be transparent about what happened to Alex Pretti 💀.

And can we talk about how crazy it is that CBP refused to answer whether their agents were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting 🤯? That's some serious red flag stuff right there 🔴. It's like, if they're not willing to admit to being transparent, how can we trust them with our safety and security? 😕

I also think it's time for more accountability from Congress 👀. They need to hold CBP accountable for their actions and make sure that something like this doesn't happen again 💯. We need better oversight and regulation of federal law enforcement agencies, especially when it comes to use of force and treatment of civilians 🤝.

Let's hope Rep. Ramirez and Rep. Magaziner's legislation can help bring about some real change 🙏. We need more pressure on CBP to be transparent and accountable 🔊.

🤔 This is super concerning - a self-answered questionnaire from CBP isn't really going to cut it when it comes to transparency and accountability. It's like they're trying to sweep this under the rug and not take responsibility for their actions. The fact that they can't even provide info on whether their agents were wearing body cameras during the shooting is pretty alarming.

We need more oversight and regulation on these types of incidents, especially when it comes to use of force by federal law enforcement agencies. It's clear that Reps. Ramirez and Magaziner are taking steps in the right direction with their proposed legislation. We should also be expecting more from Congress - lawmakers have a responsibility to hold agencies like CBP accountable for their actions.

The Intercept is doing some great reporting on this, but we need your support to keep going 💸

omg that's so crazy 🤯 CBP is literally dodging questions about what really happened to Alex Pretti and it's honestly super concerning... i mean i get transparency but this is like, basic human decency you know? 💔 they're basically saying they don't have any info because they didn't record anything on camera which just adds more mystery & distrust. the fact that lawmakers are pushing for more oversight & regulation is def needed tbh 🙌

🤔 this is just a whole thing... cbp's response is so vague it's like they're hiding something 🙅‍♂️ and i'm not buying that death-in-custody notice is just some boring form 📝 anyone who's ever filled out a police report knows that's not how it works 🚔 the fact that lawmakers are getting frustrated is justified, imo 💯 we need more transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to use of force 🔫 this whole thing feels like a big ol' mess 🤯

omg have u ever tried that new avocado toast at that cafe downtown 🤤 i mean it's literally soooo good like what even is the secret ingredient lol but anyway back to this CBP thing u think they're just trying to cover their asses or watever 🤑
