I mean, can you believe it took this long for Rebecca Clarke's music to get the love it deserves? She was literally breaking barriers back in the day as one of the first female orchestral players, and now we're seeing her chamber music & songs shining like never before. The Wigmore Hall recital really showed off her range - Tynan & Whately absolutely killed it on vocals, and Ashley Riches' warm tones brought out the best in her pieces Clarke's music might not be for everyone, but honestly, that's what makes it so special. The way she balances emotion & technicality is just masterful. It's about time we gave her the recognition she deserves, tbh
I feel like our classical music scene is due for a major refresh! It's about time we're giving these talented women composers some love Rebecca Clarke's life story is truly inspiring - can you imagine being one of the first female orchestral players in London back then? The way the performers brought her songs to life was just magical, especially Ailish Tynan and Kitty Whately - their vocals gave me goosebumps! It's amazing how some of these pieces have stood the test of time, yet they still feel fresh and exciting. I'm so glad we're finally getting to experience this music in all its glory Long overdue recognition indeed!
I'm loving all these classical music rediscoveries https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p009h4rj (BBC Radio 3's latest feature on Rebecca Clarke) I mean, have you listened to that new album of hers? The way the singers bring out her melodies is just magic
I mean, think about it... Rebecca Clarke's story is like a symphony of its own - from breaking barriers as one of the first female orchestral players to leaving an indelible mark on classical music through her chamber music and songs. It's almost as if she was ahead of her time, defying expectations with her innovative compositions. What I find fascinating is how this new generation of performers is breathing life into her work, infusing it with their own unique energy. It's a beautiful reminder that art knows no bounds of time, and that the music we love today was created by visionaries like Clarke who dared to challenge the status quo. The more we celebrate her music, the more I believe we're not just honoring her legacy, but also our own humanity...
